Tales of a Giant

I imagine he would cover the country very nicely! :D Do you know what his breeding actually is? Obviously only the welsh side would mean much to me but I am presuming not a flat bred spindly TB?

Dad was a TB, racing lines from what I can briefly ascertain. But did not race himself. Called Mutazayid.

The Welsh is Thorneyside The Boss x Llanarth Lord Nelson (means didly squat to me)

Oh giant one has been here 2 months now and it's safe to say I've stopped completing his sales spreadsheet!! So yes, whilst he will eventually be on the transfer list I'm planning on having some fun with him first!

Given he was huge, 6 weeks backed and Welsh he spent the first fortnight based with a friend so I could safely test drive him. All good.

Got him back to permenant residence and 2 moves in quick succession stressed out his Welsh brain. So whilst he was good to ride under saddle he was a bit 'bouncing off the walls' in other aspects. A hefty dose of valerian and strict routine and he is thankfully now much more settled and off his herbal dope.

We are overcoming his shoeing issues with the help of sleepy juice and a very patient farrier, I reckon next cycle we will get fronts on awake and won't be too long until he is accepting of the hinds.

As his confidence has grown so has boundary testing ability!! We had a rocky fortnight where the brave pants were needed, but we are over that (for now) with the help of an amazing instructor who was rocking up at dawn to work him with me in the morning before work - above & beyond professionalism!

He has ventured out to a group clinic last weekend and was mind blowingly grown up about the whole thing.

So decided now was a good time for a scheduled break in the field. Had a tooth removal planned, a sarcoid he came with to be banded and now, very helpfully after a hooley around the field, a pulled muscle and oedema 'boob' between his front legs to heal!

Over and out for the giant one. Sometimes you just know they will be good, and I have a strong gut feel on this one :)

Good idea to give him a bit of down time and get the maintenance out of the way early. I hope his man boob goes down quickly and he has learnt to keep his legs under control when playing :)

I think I'm in love with him lol!

I love riding big horses now - sticking to around 16.2 I think even though I'm only 5foot4.

Got on a friends 15.2hh at the weekend and she felt tiny! :D

Great update! Glad you're keeping him for now, he really does have a certain something about him :D
Good luck with the man boob reduction and continued improvement in farriery reasonableness in the next few months

The giant is pleased to report his man boob is now barely noticeable and he has had a recent focus on his flatwork. He has been an A* student and so as a reward went for a jump this morning .... his 5th time over fences and we were big meanies, and made him try to compress his rather long body! Mega pleased with him.

Thanks everyone, I really love this horse. He could be quite mega in time if he ends up in the right home. The canter is amazing but a double edged sword, at the moment it’s taking quite a lot of work to do anything with!

I really like this horse, he strikes me as having a huge amount of potential, huge presence about him too. I reckon he was a lucky find for you, look forward to following his progress.
