Otto is back and intact! The x-rays showed the blades were safely incased in poo and were next in the queue to come out, so the Vet has given him an enema and we are still on Poo Watch
grin.gif

HOWEVER!!!

The Vet wasn't sure he could make out two blades when he x-rayed his bowels, so he had to x-ray the rest of him, just to make sure they weren't lodged somewhere.....

OH nearly died when the Practice Manager told him to the total bill!! Thank god he is insured and we will be getting it back!

He would have proably passed it this morning if I had given him a bit more time, but I went into Dog Owner Panic
grin.gif
I just have to think if I had waited and it had turned out they were stuck somewhere.

I now have a very dopey dog (do you think we could sedate him all he time?
grin.gif
) who hasn't a clue what he's doing!

Thank you for all the crossed fingers
smile.gif

(And apologies for any spelling mistakes, Otto has now fallen asleep on my arm and I haven't the heart to move him
grin.gif
}

Very glad all is well
smile.gif
Any price is a small price to pay for peace of mind though isnt it
smirk.gif
(unless of course it is going on my credit card which has no spare capacity any more
grin.gif
)

Oh thank goodness - I have been worried

And yes - thank god for insurance!

I would have been in full panic mode if Henry ate a razor too

I'm thinking a Doggy Emegency Credit Card may have to be looked into as it was very lucky the funds were in the bank to pay it with! OH will have to be in charge of it though as surely buying him a new bed/toy/food/small puppy classes as an 'emergency'??
grin.gif

I've got one - peace of mind in plastic form!

The pup is definitely a Special Purchase and as such is eligible

The Practice Manager said it's always Spaniels and Labradors that come in having eaten something they shouldn't.
She told me the story of a client who had recently had their driveway re-surfaced with gravel and then had a BBQ. They had spilt some of the fat on the gravel and their Springer Spaniel Puppy had eaten ONE KILO!!!!! of gravel trying to clear up the fat! Nearly rupturing his stomach in the process!
She said when they operated they were just taking handfuls of gravel out!!

Remind me again why I chose a Springer????
grin.gif

Well you know how it is, I have never had a greyhound eat something it shouldnt do - apart from those times which involved a cat, a chicken and a pigeon of course

My mum phoned me at 8.30 this morning to say she had found it last night under her bed - she didnt think I would have appreciated a call at 11pm
grin.gif

Oh thank goodness for that! I have been wondering how he was getting on. Poor wee man. What an eegit! I'd like to say I hope he has learnt from his lesson, but, well, it is Otoo we're talknig about

You may have a point there!!

Glad to hear he's doing okay and didn't need opening up. Fingers crossed everything reappears as it should soon. At least you have insurance, when Saffie pinched a bone the other week and got "blocked up" enemas didn't work so she had to be sedated and manually cleared out (nice
tongue.gif
), she had x rays before hand to find the blockage and one after to check everything had gone, plus an overnight stay at the vets. Grand total of £200, and she's not insured
frown.gif
.

Oh dear!!

My Mum's uninsured dog broke both his elbows (a year apart)and was repaired both times, after that Otto was always going to be insured
grin.gif

Otto's bill was £351 in total, thank goodness we are getting it back in a couple of weeks!!!

Glad to hear it is just a waiting game and he should soon be well again!
smile.gif

It is always labs and spangles - my sister on one of her many visits with her lab (may have been socks, shoes etc etc) the vet just laughed and sent her on her way saying it would pass. The chocolate lab before her had eaten a mobile - owners hadn't realised until it started ringing.........

Saff will be 12 in February, so by the time you had taken into account all the excesses, exclusions etc for a GSD of her age insurance not really viable, in fact vets bill probably cheaper than years premium
wink.gif
The payment has gone on the good old plastic(along with Buffys eye specialist costs) not looking forward to next months bill
frown.gif

My Parent's have 6 dogs, so by the time they add up all the monthly payments they may as well just foot the ****frantically touches wood***** rare bills themselves.

They also tell themselves that as they are working dogs, they will be slightly hard hearted and put a limit on what they are willing to spend on them... however in reality they get all emotional and do whatever it takes to get the dog fixed!
grin.gif

When Pye broke his leg the second time, the beaters where they work the dogs had a whip round to help
grin.gif

£351 squiddlers??????

Bloomin heck Hen, your vet is seriously expensive!
I thought things got cheaper the more northern you got???

*toddles off to have a lay down* £351 bloomin quid.... crumbs!

I know!!! My OH nearly went into cardiac arrest!!

£50 for yesterday
£60 sedation
£50 per x-ray (he had 4!)
and the rest on various injections and an enema!

I think we go to a very expensive Vets TBH, but the Vet I see is sooooo lovely and so helpful (and won't do unecessary things, like panic and open him up straight away yesterday
grin.gif
) that I sort of forgive them the expense
grin.gif

And we're not that North
tongue.gif
I think Gloucestershire is an expensive county
