A4A at Kelsall for us today. The steeplechase was the most spread out course I think I have ever seen, used almost all of one arena. Zig ran his little socks off to come 2nd, I ran out of breath 3 obstacles from the end and just pointed and he finished beautifully then just headed off for his treat pouch in the bucket, didn't bother waiting for me which was probably wise! Jumping was nearly as long and he again did a fab run to win it, and I wasn't as far behind him this time. Agility was carnage, I think he missed both dog walk and a frame contacts but then managed to get himself eliminated in the weaves by leaving them numerous times to head for the finish and his treat pouch, which was a tad optimistic as it was only obstacle 9. But I did win 2 bottles of wine on the tombola so overall not a bad day.

Rew’s sister has had pups today, by a whippet.

I will want a second agility dog one day soon, and I love lurchers and whippets. It has been challenging doing agility with him (I was new to it too) but at home he is the easiest dog ever.

Do I get a little niece for Rew? I go from yes to no in a heartbeat!

Gotcha day photo from 2021 for the hell of it!

It’s a a silly place to ask for a reasoned debate 😄

But as you are becoming deadly serious about your agility would you be better getting something less pure whippet? Something… cleverer? 🤣.
Disclaimer that I love Rew and accept his early struggles weren’t all of his making. But he’s quite precious.

A valid point . Had I been more serious about agility maybe I should have gone for a different breed . But I love my heelers and for me you spend far more time living with a dog at home than you do in an agility ring .

I can so relate to this 😂 I have 2 whippet x BCs and the one that looks like a tiny black whippet is SO DUMB. Sweet dog, very loving but oh my goodness. Her sister, who looks like a BC, is weaving 12 poles. She is still at 2 sets of 2 and not even in a straight line.. they’ve had the same number of reps 😳🙈😂 Nice dogs great off switches! But boy I’m struggling with the whippet brain.. 😂

You’ve no idea how much that has cheered me up! 🤣 Sorry! Seriously though a whippet x BC was on my list, maybe I need to cross off anything with whippet in it.

Yeah I’m not sure I’d go to whippet again. Those whippety genes seem to be quite dominant as well as she (apparently) is only 30% whippet! 😳🙈😂
Hats and everything else off to you for being able to train and compete with a full whippet!

STR is working today, so I think if the hho can find her an appropriate colour, size and shape pup in the West Country by lunchtime that’d be grand. 🤣
There is a really nice breeder I see has produced some cracking BPs, Frason kennels is I think the name.
She needs to join the BorderPap in competitive sports FB page ;) Sonia Snell is the breeder.

Border pap is an appalling name. Sounds like something you’d need a speculum for. 😳
And something for which you wouldn’t wish to take my advice to get a big one!

In all seriousness I have the extreme ends of the size spectrum for agility and wouldn’t want to go a gram bigger or smaller on either.

The 7.5kg dog can tip a seesaw in decent time but I still had to retrain it in his first season out due to variance of equipment causing him to come off early. Smaller dogs can really struggle with it, as well as the jump height while we still don’t have micro at KC.

The 32kg dog lifts weighted seesaws clean off the ground and took a set of heavy based weaves along with her last week (grazing her eye in the process 😳). At 60-61cm she has to drop her head for tunnels but not completely flatten, which is part of the reason I didn’t get a male.

No I still won’t get a collie. 😝

We have two Borderpaps at our club, full brothers but nothing like each other. One is small, ginger and white with prick ears, very driven and noisy. Very good at agility. The other is tri colour with quite a bit of white and looks far more like a collie, more collie sized too. Promising but not up to the other's standard yet.
Also have several paps. two with the owner who has the smaller borderpap. Nice little dogs and good at agility. Another woman has a big pap and now a son of his. The dad was DNA tested by previous owner and has the IVDD gene. Apparently if this is going to show up it does so about 3 and tends to affect dogs that are a bit short legged for their breed or so I was told. Anyway he was an excellent agility dog, won up to G7 very quickly and then sort of diappeared. Not heard why. Owner is now training his son. Personally I would not have used him as a sire.

Who is this, out of curiosity?
Yes the CDDY concern is big in the BP world at the moment. Pretty much all paps are carriers, so it’s luck of the draw whether the BP gets it (BCs don’t carry). Unfortunately it’s a carrier can see disease gene. It apparently causes the intervertebral discs to decrease in quality.
It’s also rife in poodles, cocker spaniels , tollers and other breeds, a lot of which are fixed for it. It’s different to the gene that causes short legs.

I would rather not say who it is, sorry.
