The girl who rides my horse has cut his tail so the end is above his hock

my friend had this done to horse last wk , but the loaner hacked off all his fethers and they where quite think and long took her about a year so you can emagine it didnt quite go down well with my friend

I wouldnt mind but my Tibetan Terrier got a sweet stuck in the top of her head and now has no eyebrows left...so I have two animals with dodgy haircuts.

She massacred my new boy!! As if he doesnt have enough image issues, she has now lobbed a foot off of his tail (and no I am not exxagerating)

And to add insult to injury its not even straight!!

I cannot stand long tails. I like them short so it wouldn't bother me. However, I would NEVER take a pair of scissors to another person's horse without their express permission AND instructions and would expect the same from anyone else regarding my horse.

However, I did nearly spill coke all over my keyboard at the thought of your terrier with a sweet stuck on her head. How on earth did she manage that!!??!!

Oh my! Why did she do it? Does she loan/share/just ride for you? I confess I would be breathing steam and flames, even tho my lad's is generally a good 6 inches off the floor so it doesn't get too dirty dragging round.

Oops! I once cut a ponies tail mid viewing, the potential owner turned round and said she wanted the tail that long and may not want the pony…

Luckily she winding me up! :D (and they bought the pony!)

I’m debating getting a sharer for winter as have worked out for four months of the year I’ll only have time to ride once a week :( would flip if they started hacking bits off him though, not sure I’m ready to share my baby!

Its not on the hock, its ABOVE the hock, and thats when he is just stood. I like pruning my own horses but I have had him 10 days and was letting him put on weight before I started hacking parts off of him!

The dog, apparently, got a milk bottle, or similar, chewed up and matted into her head. I think I have 11 month old godson to thank, but I do have my suspicions!!

Kitsune it is not funny :D poor bugger!
Wee brown, he said thank you, a new tail would be grand :D

so are you going shorter to even it up or are you going to live with a wonky tail for a few weeks? At least if he's new he's not going out and about yet so won't get laughed at by other horses.

Oooh I think I would be hyper-ventilating!

I would be livid...I know hair grows but who the hell takes a pair of scissors to somebody elses horse to give it a hair-cut! It would be the fact that they felt it was ok to do it that would annoy me.

Cut when standing still and slightly above hock level ... which means when he is moving and carrying it it will be well ABOVE hock!!

You have my condolences. My mare arrived with a foal chewed tail at a similiar length. Sorry to say it took best part of a year to look normal..

A strong word to say no trimming - at all - would be in order..

and you wouldnt want part of my horses tail... its white!

An acquaintance of mine went on holiday, leaving her beautiful "hairy" to be looked after by a competant horsy "friend". When she returned...........he had been HOGGED!!!!! Apparently, the (ex!) friend noticed how difficult it was to keep mane, tail and feathers clean, so thought she'd help out! I kid you not!

lol

...sorry but that was rather funny :D

It will grow back pretty quickly, meanwhile you'll just have live with a cobcut tail :D

OMG my very worst fear.. here I am worrying about pulling an inch off the boy's forelock so it doesn't get eaten

His mane is as long as I can get it, and his tail is almost on the floor, trimmed to keep it OFF the floor ! feathers flowing everywhere. But then he is a gypsy cob, so a bit different I guess. And I do like playing ponies and getting it all soft and fluffy. Is there any hope for me :p

Seriously, i would be really mad if someone did that to my horse without permission. End of.
