As the end of the shooting season approaches it’s time to start getting back to ringcraft with Erik ready for crufts!

Any hints or tips very welcomed! He stands well and is very good for the judge to go over. Unfortunately can add a few of his own special moves when running round with other dogs. He used to be fab and commended for his laid back attitude but post KC quarantine he’s found it all more exciting 🙄

(Ive been banned from showing/too much indoor show training in the season after bringing Kennel cough back from a show and messing up a big chunk of it 🙈)

More shows or ringcraft...! Just KC vaccinate him? Seems the easiest option....

If you know he's better at the front or back etc then ask the others and steward if you can be in the position in the go round.

He is vaccinated, they all are but still got it anyway. Not badly but obviously was a big disruption to shooting and general life!

The next show we went to after he was out of quarantine, I was chatting to a lady who cheerfully informed me that her dog had stopped coughing 3 days prior so had decided it was fine to attend. I was a stressed out wreck for the next two weeks just incase lightning could strike twice (that would probably have ended in divorce 😂) 🙄🙈

We’re back to weekly ringcraft from next week! Should have time to get us back into shape 😁

Back to ringcraft today! 5 more sessions and a breed club showing masterclass to go before Crufts 🤞🏻

He definitely needs reminding of this job but was a pretty good boy- especially as we had some pretty disruptive dogs at class today. I never mind this- great practice!

I've entered the lot in an Open show being held indoors on carpet as a pre Crufts crash course reminder that they are both gundogs and show dogs 😅

Took the terrier to an open show last weekend with the pups for an outing. He had his "Dear Lord, woman do you not know I am a multi champion?" face on the whole time 😂 Pup was good though, won baby puppy x 2 and loved it all

Good luck Druid! I have no shows to practice at before the big day 😂 we do have a pre crufts showing masterclass this weekend being held by the GLPC though so that should help.

He was far more settled at ringcraft last night so I’m hopeful 🤞🏻

Summary of entries out- 29 GLPs this year, down 4 on last!

I was very pleased with myself that I correctly identified your Swedish Vallhund @Annette4 - although I cheated and messaged MurphysMinder to check before I said anything 🤣 They are quite a rare breed I believe 😊
They are fairly rare, although I'm friends with his breeder and see some of his siblings and half siblings frequently so I forget they're rare 🤣

I'm lucky that the IKC Show Centre is 45mins away so we can get out to some indoors venues.

We've got 151 Springers and 126 total Gamekeeper's/Working. Mannies have a bumper entry of 58 🥳

Having always ‘free stood’ my boy, at the GLP Pre Crufts Show training last week I was advised that the majority of those showing GLPs would be ‘presenting’ them, and that I may look out of place/like I’m trying to hide a fault if I’m doing something differently.

Luckily he’s an adaptable chap and doesn’t really give a monkeys if he’s presented or not so here’s an attempt at presenting the (not so) little bugger 😂 I can’t believe how grown up he’s starting to look, now 14 months old.

He looks good! I'd have him a smidge more under himself in front to create/show a better fore chest but he's also young and likely to fill into that as he matures. Again, being picky but tidy your lead up in your hand and try have it closer to the back of his skull or level with the top of his ears to show a longer neck.

(Spot the person who has just done a handling seminar 😅🤣 )

All very much appreciated Thankyou 😁 I’m a total novice at all this and am very grateful for all help heading my way!

I'm a total dog showing newbie (shown horses in the past but never dogs). My local GR group shared a last entries call for a local breed show, so I had a moment of madness and entered my 11month goldie in to the puppy class. It's 2 weeks away . Upon reading a little into showing, it seems people typically do lots of ringcraft training beforehand... we've done none!! Am I totally daft to be taking him into a show without any ringcraft practice? He's obedient but excitable given his age.

You can train lots at home, teaching him to stack/stand (Goldies are mix of free tsack and hand stack) and to move with you on a lead. Youtube has some good pointer videos. Being gone over by strangers is the most useful thing they learn at ringcraft - if you look you might find a class local to you?

Thank you, that's helpful. There's one locally but they're just doing pre-crufts sessions at the moment so advised I join after that. I'm most worried about how excitable he'll be, he's definitely in the teenage stage. I'll watch lots of youtube - thank you!

Everyone I know seems to be coming down with Crufts lurgy!

They've completed processing up to September 2023 so should currently be working through October's awards.

Yep I know 2 people who’ve succumbed so far . The Crufts cough has always been a thing , probably more so in the London days .

I was definitely on a massive crufts come down at the beginning of the week!

Have hopefully avoided the lurgy, not sure how- it seems all ideas of personal space (for humans and dogs!) go out the window when you’re on discover dogs 🙈 my dogs are saints! 😂

Looking forward to next year, hope to brave the BASC ring as well as the breed classes as Erik will have had the chance to work like a proper gundog.

We need more BASC entries! If anyone has questions, wants help entering etc I'm always here.

We are doing both terrier and gundog days next year. Finn didn't show as well as he can for a different handler so we try again next year.

We’ll likely be there Saturday and Sunday next year, plan to send MrEB & Erik in the keepers AV HPR/P&S, one of us will take him in the working dog class and we’ll hopefully pull together a keepers team consisting of only GLPs 😁🤞🏻 then our Breed class too.

I loved how friendly the BASC ring was when you let me take Myrka in on Saturday 😊 would be fab to get the GLPs some attention in there if we can!
