The showing thread

I dont have masses of experience but having had a docked and natural bon dog I can tell the difference in terms of how the hair grows but that might be breed/type specific. I don't know aussies well enough to know if it's the same.

I only have experience in schips but in those it’s very unusual to have an NBT that appears completely tailless in the manner of one that is docked. They usually have a small stump or partial length tail.

Very breed dependant but some aussies do only have 2-3 vertebrae in the tail naturally. I'd agree it's unusual - I'm intrigued how they made the decision this dog was docked unless his genetics are not NBT. The gundog who was challenged a year or 2 ago was basically passed as owner said it's not docked, I have no docking certificate and they said that was sufficent evidence.....

Im assuming someone let the cat out of the bag about the ASD? Since the owners obviously knew what they were doing.
Although I am anti docking,I must admit I would almost prefer it to the results of deliberately doubling on the brachyury (sp? Too lazy to check) gene.
I dont have docked breeds but in those dogs I have known of personally the end of the tail is always bald whereas the bob tailed have fluffier tail ends ..........but that might just be the ones I have known??

Totally forgot.....Chaos Wombat went to Darlington this weekend.

2nd of 3 in Post Grad and 2nd in a large stakes class so £10 paid for lunch 🤣

We also met with a mini EBT breeder that OH has been talking to and she has a litter planned later in the year 🙈
Oooo I love mini EBT’s. Actually I love big ones as well. 🥰🥰

Docked by someone who knows what they are doing and has good cosmetic outcomes - the tail should never be bald at the tip

I've never seen it under FCI so perhaps was a KC thing?

Must have been, there’s a dog with it listed on Crufts results from this year but it’s disappeared off his record on MyKC now. Certainly it appeared there in the past. Wonder why they got rid of it, super easy way to designate those either DNA tested or with vet certification shortly after birth.

I was talking to an Aussie owner yesterday and it turns out this was a French dog that was listed as born tailed on their database so had definitely been docked. The handler at crufts is UK based and was apparently unaware of the dog being born tailed

Yes, I'd heard the back story from my aussie clients here and he was listed as N/N genetics so had to be docked.

Muppet went BOB at Belfast today, beating the mainland mannies. He showed like a complete dick though so lord knows how he managed to win. There was a girl coming in season and all reason went out the window  Give me a sensible springer any day.
Congratulations! Is that Belfast Champ? I remember coming over to show there in the 70s.

Huge congratulations.
See what she said there? ‘Sensible springer’! 🤣

Frank Kane had an entry of just 3 at Richmond. Managed 22 at SWKA which is an amazing entry for a weekday, clearly many were willing to take a punt on a judge who hasn't done the breed for a long time, but won't be doing that a second time. 🙄

Breed club show next week then that might be me done for the year. Puppy hunting for a friend and vaguely planning for myself but nothing to be had!

He did exactly as expected, but the latter judge should have known better. And still they bleat about falling entries and losing sets of tickets.
Always disappointing in a numerically small breed

Saw a nice (to my inexperienced opinion) Schip puppy at the international here last weekend. I think it's a continental import

Jean very much knows what she’s doing - hers was one of the most incisive critiques I’ve ever received, pinned down his faults and virtues exactly in one paragraph - however that breeding is unlikely to be the type I like. At least it’s a puppy out and about.
