Think I'm offering a good deal, why no takers?

I wish I could put my actual ad up here without being accused of advertising! Before placing an ad I trawled through loads of "wanted" ads, and they fell into two categories, first horse/happy hackers or people who wanted to compete. I thought that taking a horse to shows was a positive plus, yet some people on here make it sound negative! I also looked at horses offered for loan, and there were plenty of green 4yos offered too, I'm offering a loan for a minimum of one year, plus the chance to ride my schoolmaster, if they want. We all have to start somewhere, and I'm happy to offer someone a chance to learn the ropes producing a youngster, with my help if needed, would you pay someone to ride your youngster if they had no experience in schooling? Is this any different to someone loaning an older horse which has maybe been spoiled in some way? Or loaning my older dressage horse to someone who wants to work on his jumping? Increasing value to me is irrelevant because unless my circumstances change then he will not be sold.

Don't despair! I'd love to compete on someone's horse, I'm looking for doing some dressage on mine in Winter, but it'll be very limited by what I can do what with costs.

I would literally bite your hand off to do it, and that's with my own as well!!!

With the recession surely there must be experienced riders around that can no longer afford their own horse but would jump at the chance to ride a nice youngster and have some lessons.

You don't want to move to Budapest do you??? :D

Well..I do think it's a good deal. I'd have killed for it, and still would. I'm desperate for a project over the winter to get me back in to competitive riding and this sounds like an absolute dream come true. Just perfect, and learning stuff too? Even better! Shame about the area, but I'm finding this a lot. I'm sure the right person will come up. Being paid to ride horses isn't indicitive of skill and isn't what's being offered, so I wouldn't mention it and don't see the point unless asked...good luck.

I believe that if it was a good deal, then it would have been snapped up. Perhaps in your area there just isn't anyone to fit the bill. Could you perhaps change your ad a bit? Some teenagers are cracking and would jump at this chance. Older people are often wanting something different, due to time constraints, family ties, etc. Its not always about money I know, but if say an older person wanted a horse to ride, then they would probably, get one on loan, buy one, or book in for a lesson once a week or even ride one of their friends.

Try rewording your ad? :)

My ad says over 16, so not really ruling out teenagers, just minors! And since starting this post I've been inundated by pms and have lots of possibilities now!

Regarding age, I've just had a browse on project horses and noticed a 2 yo offered for loan, he sounds quite nice too!!

I think you are offering a fantastic opportunity, and i dont see why you would need to offer any money! A free ride, not having to pay for transport entry fees etc. I agree with some of the others, perhaps you should look for a teenager rather than an adult, as a teenager myself, i would leap at the chance for an experience such as that. Any way many teenagers are not as bad as you might think, we just get a lot of bad press, most of us are sensible and willing to learn, theres just the odd one or two who ruin our reputation. Here in Cornwall many peopel ride other peoples horses for nothing, as its a good way to gain an independant seat and some experience outside of a riding school. If you are provding a safe environment with good opportunities as you say you are i cant see why people are nt queueing outside your horse to get a look in. Hope you find someone to help you out soon. :)
