I have recently passed my trailer test and I am currently hiring a 511 ifor williams. I have decided that It will be more economical to buy my own trailer but I dont have the budget for a 511 or a 510 ( Im getting married this year and a new trailer and horse will end in divorce). What ever I get I think I would like to put in a new floor, possibly aluminium to be on the safe side.
I have seen a Robinsons Requisite 200 advertised within my price range for a fairly new one in comparison to other makes, but I cant find anything about them really online! I am due to go and see it this weekend. (its 3 hours away) My mare is only just 16'1 warmblood/irish draught but is quite stocky and holds her head naturally quite high, 6'6 rugs.
I picked her up in a 505 when I bought her and her ears were touching the ceiling. The lady who owns the trailer has said that it can hold two 17hh horses and it also says this on the horse towing website.
I just wanted to no what peoples views are on the trailer in general and if you think my mare will fit?
I do like taking friends out to so want to make sure that there's room for my mare and another.
I no there have been issues with the floor on these in the past (its 2009) but if Im planning on replacing the floor should this even be an issue?
Please and help appreciated! I would love to hear everyone's views to avoid a possibly waisted 3 1/2 hour journey:)

thanks

It will be too small for your horse.
Also bear in mind that an aluminium floor can also rot. The urine from the horse acts as an electrolyte and allows a galvanic action to take place between the steel supporting structures of the floor and the aluminium. The aluminium then rots and the floor can then become detached from the supporting structures.

(I would suggest that you ask for a nice new trailer and towing vehicle as a wedding present. Alternatively don't get married and put the money saved twoards the above).

:D sound advice if you ask me - i got a horse instead of a wedding, more than happy with that!

Thank you for your quick reply. Do you no what the floors are like in them? Are they quite small then? Also can't do that unfortunately. Already spent the money I saved for the wedding so for on a new dressage saddle lol

I went and had a look at these some years ago now, and personally didn't think much to the quality of build or fixtures.
As I say, this is a while ago so don't know if they are still the same quality, but based on what I saw I wouldn't buy one. Of course that's not to say you won't like them.

I personally wouldn't touch a robinsons trailer. They seem far to flimsy and light weight for my liking... The one you are looking at probabl only weighs 100kg more than your mare... if you're lucky.

IFOR 505s are designed for horses up to 16.2hh I think. Not 17hh. The 510 is for up to 17.2hh and well worth the investment. They go on for years and years and years...
Other option is to go for an old old rice or richardson and do it up. There tend to be a few of these around..

I'm not entirely sure of the details, but I believe the Robinsons trailers are the same as the Cheval Liberte ones, which were prone to floors giving way.

Where price is an issue, you can't go wrong with a Bateson - well built without being too heavy, and cheap enough second hand.

I think it's urgent so that she can cancel the trip if it's not worth going and avoid wasting the time of the seller.

I have a Cheval Liberte trailer and I think the Robinson's ones are the same but branded differently. I transport my 16hh ish middle weight girl in mine and it's the smaller one designed for up to 16.2, so I think size wise the larger one would be just fine.

In terms of build quality it's just personal preference. I like the fact that mine is nice and lightweight and it has some clever design features such as the ramp opening as doors. . Because they are rarer I'm also inclined to think mine would be less nickable than an ifor.

The bonus for me is that the ifor all have the ramp on the roadside so when my girl travels behind the driver there is not enough room for her to swing round and walk off the ramp. With my trailer the ramp is the other side, so although I have to move the partition to get her off she can walk down the ramp safely.

Hope this helps

Because I wanted to no what people's views are on them before I go and waste a 3 hour journey to see one and pick it up this weekend!

Its still not URGENT though is it?

Drives me mad on this forum, new user joins and expects everyone to jump with the answers to something they could have Googled and got an immediate answer on.

Different is irrelevant to me, different has nothing to do with build quality.

As I said in my previous post, when I went to look at them, I thought they weren't up to much. Glad you like yours, that's your opinion, but I'm giving my opinion on them from what I saw.

(eta And if you read my post properly, you will see the cheap and shoddy comment didn't even mention the Robinsons trailer, but was a question aimed at another poster regarding build quality being a preference!)

I just want to thank everyone for there constructive feed back its nice to find a forum where people are helpful.
That's what I wanted to hear, Peoples opinions on the trailer both positive and negative so that I can way up the pros and cons and make a decision weather its worth the trip or not.
I'm not so sure there was any need for complaining about me putting urgent.
If you don't think it is and don't like me writing urgent then please don't waste your time commenting on it unless you have something to add about the Robinson trailer ?
Yes I am a new to this forum (I signed up today) but it would be pointless me posting if no one answered until next week or later after I had made the decision, I wanted to get as many peoples views as possible before I decide.
I have spent the last few evenings trying to find out if this trailer will be spacious enough for my mare as I haven't seen a 200 up close, there are lots of of discussions on horse and hound but no one had answered my main questions so I thought I would ask?If a new be cant post on here then where else on the uk web would be a better place to find like minded people. Also some of the discussions were dated back as far as 2007, some of that information and opinions may have changed over the last 6 years.
thanks again

you can swing the partitions in an IFOR in order to unload without the horse getting caught, plus I think now you can buy them with the front unload on the passenger side... I'd like to think that if I did ever have to unload at the roadside the road would be closed in order for me to do so safely anyway.

I personally don't like loading my horse onto a trailer where the ramp / floor flexes under my weight, never mind that of a 700kg horse (potentially x2)

IME the Ifors are far superior build quality to a lot of trailers which is what makes them so popular to thieves... Fortunately they are now fitted with datatag which makes them traceable and if you secure them properly and store them out of the way of prying eyes the risk of theft is somewhat minimised...

I wouldn't even contemplate putting my horse in a Robinson's trailer even in an emergency situation after seeing a new one at their store. It seemed very low build quality and flimsy to say the least.

I would see if you could find a second hand Bateson Deauville or IF510 for your budget.

Ifors now have the option you can have the ramp whichever side you want, altho obviously most second hand ones will still have it on the drivers side.

That's interesting. Ramps add heaps of weight and I'd always thought it was pretty daft having a weighty ramp on the side the single horse travels on. Beyond daft but glad its been addressed.:)

Bateson trailer is good too - or am i just a one voice....my 510 was stolen a while ago and i couldn't afford a new one - bought Bateson instead and have been impressed with it. Horses love it too. wouldn't mind a lorry though...

I have a bateson too and love it. Bought it brand new and was a lot cheaper than an ifor. Usually only have one horse in it and its lovely and light to tow. The build is great and the after sales care good. None of mine are 16.2 but I have taken a friends 16.1 in it and he was fine. :)
