Well ridden it twice since it bucked me off 3 times and have managed to stay on (much to its annoyance) I still do not trust it, and don't think I ever will, as they seem to come out of nowhere.

Just wondered what people thought about it really, does a horse like this ever become trustworthy in your eyes? I personally wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it at the moment, but it is a very nice horse and I have got a better idea now of how to ride it in order to prevent the bucks occurring. But how would it be with someone different on?! I don't think the owner will never ride it, so it is likely it will be sold in the end, but how on earth do you sell a horse like this?! Really need to advise her but am not sure what would be best (and no I am not having it!

Sorry, just thinking out loud really, and thought I had better let you know I had survived riding it again.

edited to add link to previous post to avoid confusion

maybe its because l am a little older and wiser now but l wouldnt ride anything like that any more, and there is no way l would have anything to do with selling it as someone could easily sue!! l ride for a living so cannot afford to injure myself!

Well done for surviving! All you can do is have teeth/back checked if you already haven't. And if theres nothing physically wrong with it you'll just have to ride him through it, Bucking doesn't phase too many people but it depends whet sort of discipline he'll be used for, I don't mind bucking at all, but I hate rearers!!

There is no way I would sell it for her, I value my reputation too much, I also ride for a living so cannot afford to be injured, but also hate to give up on a horse that could be fanastic if given the chance

I have ridden horses like this and unless the owners are confident/capable or willing to spend a fortune getting every check under the sun done, then I would look at trading it with a dealer, or an unwarranted sale. I have advised people of this before now, some will take the advice and get shut asap others hang out for a decent price all the while paying out for said nag to be kept and ridden

My grandad used to say 'costs as much to feed a bad horse as a good one' meaning you should get something out from what you put in!

Oh right. Can you tell I didn't read your last thread! Um well...... give it back to the owner and get something else to ride on, you're lifes worth more than that! He may have a screw loose somewhere, do you know any of his history?

whats to say it wont do it again??

I know, thats the problem, I think I can tell now when it is about to explode and stop it, but you have to go through one of its explosions to get this feel which I wouldnt want anyone else to do.

I actually think it would be better off shot

Madhector you're gonna have to swallow you're pride and give it back, he's not you're problem. What if he seems ok for the next X amount of time and it gets sold and the next person that gets on it gets kicked the same as you but worse? It wouldn't be the owners reputation, it would be your's. I think you need you're head banging against a brick wall!!!

I dont have it at mine, just get paid to ride it. I would never actually sell it for her. I dont think it is pride so much, not sure what I would call it though. It is like I was with Jerry, everyone told me to get shot of him when he went over backwards onto me, and I couldnt give up on him, and look at him now...

There is no easy solution I dont think, no one will ride it for free, and doubt owner will want to keep paying for someone to ride it for ever, it cant be sold, so the only other option is have it pts

I cant believe people are sayng it should be PTS!

You said you are getting somewhere right MH, and he hasnt had you off again, or you are getting to know him and how he works?

At the yard I worked at we had a 5yr old TB to train for pt2pt-ing, he was a nightmare, would try and kick and bite you in the stable , nothing was straight forward, nightmare to ride.
1 season hunting and a summer turned away and he came back a different horse, totally well mannered and chilled out.

I dont think you should take any unnecessary risks MH and its not you responsibility, but I dont think it should be PTS at this stage.

Do you have any idea where these bucks come from, when do they happen?

He hasnt stopped as such I am just ready for him.

They come out of nowhere, at first he did it on the flat, then when I got back on he did it after a jump, then I managed to stop that and he did it before the jump.

I now ride him as if he is going to buck at any moment, and therefore I can catch him before he starts. If I didnt manage to catch the first one then I dont think i would stop him as they are so violent. We were cantering round over a 3ft fence today quite happily. But didnt trust him tbh.
