VE day weekend plans

Pheeeee-ooooo. It was a hot one today. as she was a good girl yesterday I opted not to ride K who is so square she gets hot just standing around and instead took advantage of the snooze-inducing heat for Darcy. He's trying so hard at the moment, I feel that we are turning a corner. Even starting to make headway with the MOST terrifying side of the hedge of doom. it has felt like a long old slog but I'm pretty fond of the big goof. I took nice pictures of him too but this was him after a big sleep earlier, it's exhausting being a racehorse.

I took my day off to do an extra day volunteering! (While social distancing of course) As a non-owner it's the only horsey contact I get these days so obviously grabbed it with both hands!

I got mobbed for treats by a herd of shetlands (genuine fear for my life), skipped out for 2 hours and got to tack up my very favourite boy for a quick dander to get him used to it again before we try a hack next week! He hated it and he might hate me but he needs the work, hes driving the older boys up the walls.

Back again for the same thing on Sunday!

Went for hack this afternoon as planned, OH riding, me on foot. Just shy of 7 miles ? got flippin roasted by the sun, oops. Horse got a bath then. One of the girls at the yard has just sent me this picture - safe to say we fired him out ?

Dressage tomorrow at some stage. Hope horse has some energy ? we’ve had a more varied week this week - only one schooling session, 3 x hacks and one evening playing with xc jumps.

well we got Salty installed into the maternity wing yesterday, she is a little but unsure but has been grazing and in & out of the stable quite happily so I think she will be OK with a bit of tlc. Had a quiet night in her new box and tootled back out to the field this morning. The grass looks incredible but it's actually not like this all over ;) 320 days tomorrow so I think that puts us into the safe zone and one less thing to worry about... plenty more worries waiting in the wings, of course!

Cant wait to see baby pics MP
I can't let myself think about it yet, still on the knife edge between anxiety and excitement! o_O OH thinks I'm fussing over nothing but i keep telling him this is the precious first born  Next milestone is going to be putting lorry down there for overnighters :p hopefully we will be back to warm weather by then.

No paving has been done. The OH and myself have nearly come to blows over collecting it, and I never want to see paving stones again! There are currently over a 100 of them dumped in piles around my stables and I am deeply regretting ever starting this whole thing!

Rooni has been a good boy this week. After an easy time with lots of hacking he’s getting back into his training and looking fab...

Fig is doing well. Handsome as ever. He has a tiny pen that I’m strip grazing for him. Still manages to throw himself around!

Had a lovely sunny morning hack at 5.15am yesterday. Was just beautiful.

Today, I am hiding from the weather!

Well my friday hack was glorious, absolutely perfect.

Yesterday, on what was apparently the nicest day of the year, I got a drenching. I left it until later to ride so it was cooler and decided to go in the school. Had a nice session but about 10 minutes in the heavens opened.

I think I'll have a fairly normal sort of hack today.

Rooni is stunning NMT, and so lovely to see Fig looking so well. Brilliant to see your hard work paying off.

Did our online dressage today, I think the chilled out week of basically zero schooling has done the trick, he felt much more switched on this week. This block of tests are all eventing tests, they feel like they are over so quickly!

Also got our new prolite girth at last yesterday, size wise the 30 is perfect and horse seems very happy in it.

It was a bit breezy here today, and YOs were fencing an adjacent field with a staple thing which sounded like an actual gun, so Mad was a nightmare to catch and very wound up to bring in - I nearly didn’t ride! Manned up and went for a walk around the woods, we had some huge spooks just after leaving the yard which prompted a chat about her getting back in her box. Funnily enough the spooking totally stopped then . Horses!

"A bit breezy" doesn't describe what we have here (S.Devon) right now. REALLY windy! I think its staying for a day or so. Also extremely cold. Mad weather. T shirts one day and full winter kit the next.
BBC weather said it was 20mph but it wasn’t that windy - I’ve ridden in worse! It’s a shame it’s gone cold again :(.

Was pretty grim here today... I started out jumping and had to abandon it as the poles kept blowing off. So I did this instead:

I even had to tie my mustang down as he also kept blowing away  He did get a little lesson after he'd been roped though...

Then I hacked Dae out and we were chased by a dementor (aka stray bin bag) and did a short fat hairy racehorse impersonation. I'm hoping tomorrow is a bit less bonkers!

My weekend has faced a pretty full range of weather. Boiling on Friday, wet on Saturday and bloody freezing and windy today.

We have temperatures down to 3C tonight!

Had a nice ride despite the cold. L didn't bother about escaped tarpaulin or flappy plastic. I saw two cars, one of which was someone from the yard, and one very polite young lad on a bike.

I can't quite believe how layered up I needed to be. I had fleece lined jodhs on and a down gilet under my winter coat!

I was very glad to get in a hot shower when I got home though.

Aw thank you! Figgy such a funny boy at mo. Here’s praying he comes fully right! I know there are ‘bigger’ things but I can’t help but pray for the world to make enough sense to compete again soon. I like to cling to that hope!

It was bitter today, yesterday I got sunburn today I was shivering in the field trying to teach while my jumps blew down!
Nice little hack yesterday before teaching all afternoon. I'm so proud of how much my riders have come on already, but I'm looking forward to getting back to normal when I've got less to try and do!

It was a weekend of contrast for us. Saturday I rode badly, just couldnt get it together so we ended up going between being a bit shuffley to rushing to tense neck and bit chomping. M did everything I asked but we were not very stylish looking!

Yesterday I bucked my ideas up and actually rode and we had a great session!

Tonight is in hand, looking forward to that, a bit more trot shoulder in and some transitions from rein back to trot is on the cards

Pics from yesterday, defo no shuffling here

Got the results of our on line Horse Agility competition, and ponies scored well. My own fault for not reading directions carefully enough that they didn't do even better. Will be filming Western Trail test this coming week end. Very pleased to have some goals to work for that are not too taxing for us!
