Mum has just spoken to the vets again. They have brought a radiographer expert in to see her. They keep saying this is very very serious and that she's really poorly. They keep saying 'if she makes it' ....
Oh god...how horrible and very unforseen, i mean she was fit and healthy wasnt she??? Sending all my vibes your way - have they said anything about possibly outcomes etc?
Try and keep busy etc and get some chocolate, comfort food. Huge hugs xx
She dropped a lot of condition and seemed to lose fitness recently. I spoke to the vets when I noticed and they gave her a suppliment, but they now think it was down to whatever this is. The main things they are investigating at the moment are pneumonia and cancer.
I absolutley adore that horse.
Oh Dani sending you lots of cyber hugs from me and Pidge. I know how much you adore Gem, it's so obvious from your posts and pitcures
Difficult I know but she is in the best place and they are going to find out what is wrong with her. Any idea of how long before they get any results back? When can you go and visit her? sorry for all the questions
Oh guys you're all so wonderful. I am so glad to have HHO. I trust the RVC 100%, they know Gem and I quite well due to all her other problems so I know they are looking after her perfectly.
I am allowed to visit between 4pm and 5pm, I just want to give her a cuddle.
Thistle, I am in Harpenden. Thanks so much for your concern, I will be ok, I am sure. As will Gem, she's a stubborn mare, she's not going to let something like this beat her
Just read your post and sending loads of healing vibes over for Gem, and lots of hugs to you. I do hope they manage to get to the root of the problem and get her on the mend.
I'm so sorry to hear this news- massive get well vibes for Gem and hugs for you. Remember to eat and try and sleep so you can be strong for her. She's going to be so pleased to see you later.
Thanks again everyone. I should be able to visit her today, as long as someone gets home from work in time to take me. I need to go and muck out her stable from last night before she went to the vet college but I have no energy to move lol. I'm so lazy.
you are not lazy! more likely totally wiped out from last night. Go and have a kip for a couple of hours if you can and then you'll hopefully feel a bit better. Emotional stress can wipe you out too you know. Take care xx
We've just been through a similar problem (partially collapsed lung) with one of our oldies and it looked very serious, but she was dosed up to the hilt with steroids etc and is now *touch wood* hopefully over the worst of it.
I'll keep all my fingers crossed for you x
Just spoke to the vet, they say Gem is being a perfect patient and behaving herself (probably because she's so used to it!)
They have some test results back, showing that she has pussy fluid on her lungs, which did contain some blood. They also found abnormal bloody fluid in her abdomen as well. They are now steering away from cancer, and more towards pneumonia, which is still worrying, especially considering how ill she is with it.
Just thought I'd let you all know.
