WARNING! - KEP riding hat safety - please open

I still like to resurrect this post from time to time, even if just one more person sees my broken hat, then at least they are making an informed decision when buying and wearing one!

@MozartK well many years on I have read this thread as I am hat shopping and it has convinced me never to buy a KEP hat so I would like to thank you hugely. You may not have got anywhere with those that should care but you have with this consumer.

For those looking at hats I recently had a fall in uvex helmet with the mips system. Really great system, head and neck both felt fine and I do feel much of that was down to helmet

Apparently I only have a Charles Owen shaped head having had to replace my hat on Saturday (just about stopped seeing stars but still feel rough). I'm horrified at the photos on here.

My old CO one had some scratches on it and felt a bit funny when I put it back on. The lovely lady who fitted me for a new one said that's probably the crumple zone distorting - so doing its job.

I’m glad this is resurrected! I’ve not had a bad fall in a while but was thinking the other day I need a new hat as it’s a few years old now! I’ve never looked at the KEP ones and never will! Learnt a lot on this post it’s very educational!

Interesting to see an advert today to say that you can now remove/replace/change the front section cover intentionally.

I suppose if it's at risk of popping off anyway then you might as well turn it into a marketable feature

I fail to see how a hat with removable parts can have much structural strength though.
