Weekend plans :D

Hacking out with Daisy's new owner (yep I did! :( ) for the 4th time. Hoping she doesn't fall off again (Daisy innocent she was stationary at the time!).

Idly window shopping big jumping type cobs for sale as well probably... one out and all that.

Given the size of your horse collection I'm not sure you do 'idle' window shopping do you? :D Mind you, with as able a jockey as your daughter to keep them all fit I think I'd take full advantage too

Well you know if a big jumping cob fell on my lap...

...it would bloomin hurt :D

Actually we are having a clear out at the moment and I've got another one for sale too. Big lad's coat is also on a shakey peg if I get something more suited to my nervous disposition and filler phobia (can't blame him it's all me!)

Think I forgot to mention Flora tho didn't I so yeah you're right the numbers have not actually dropped at all. Oops.

It was definitely not our day at Sparsholt. After a fab lesson yesterday, Pocholo decided to revert to spooky Spaniard today (we were THAT combination in the busy warm-up, so embarrassing). Any moves near the judge in our Novice were performed in full pass, not a movement that is asked for in BD. Maybe he wants to go back to Spain for some doma vaquera?!

We had 30 minutes between tests and usually I'll chill for a while and just do a 10 minute warm-up, but I decided to work through the spookiness instead. We got some nice work in the warm-up arena but we both went off the boil in the test. I let him dribble down the centre line, then instead of kicking myself up the backside I continued to let him dribble around the test, complete with spooking, late transitions as he was behind my leg and a break in the left canter. Utterly hopeless.

We ended up with a generous 63.9% in the Novice and a shameful 57.3% in the Elementary. We have our Novice Area festival at Sparsholt over the bank holiday weekend so I may see if I can skive a morning off work for arena hire there in the next couple of weeks. He's so capable at Elementary level, it was a very frustrating morning!!

I am continuing the rehab of my horse from kissing spines. So far its going really well, he's moving so much better, he's chilled most of the time, although he still tries to be 'spooky' to scare me and gives up when it doesn't work. Definitely not pain, he is still being seeing the vet every week since I've started riding as he also gets acupuncture once a week to help him heal.

Today we went for a walk up the track and onto the road a bit to see if we could hear any abnormalities in his walk. Heard nothing, came back down the track which he did mostly in a straight line (he used to struggle to stay straight going down hill, guess from the soreness in his back) and then did some work in walk and trot on circles and getting him bending properly.

Still no cantering yet I'd rather wait another week to add canter in although he's desperately wanting to do faster work. But I worry I could hurt his back by moving too fast although the vets said by the 3rd week you can add in canter.

He is off to a clinic next weekend for two days on natural horsemanship. The man says he has had the issues my horse has to deal with before and they are easy to fix so fingers crossed I have a less spooky horse soon. I am doing my own spook busting with him, he wasn't remotely bothered by walking over a tarp, but a bag on the end of a stick was terrifying. Still working on that one.

I'm joining in this week, I'm heading to Elms Farm tomorrow to take part in my first ODE. We're only in the 60cm class, but I've got enough to worry about without the height of the jumps coming into it! I've been trembling since Thursday, but we walked the course this afternoon and I've come over with a strange sense of calm. Maybe I've realized my fate and have accepted it :D

I must be mad though, I've never done a dressage test before and I've never done more than the odd cross country fence. Wish me luck!

Hope everyone had a good weekend? :)

Not quite the couple of days we had planned, Millie was doing snorting wheelies in the field when I arrived on Sat morning and predictably is now lame... :( we will take a trip over to the horspital later in the week to get it prodded but very much looking like sdft on the other hind leg, so she's got a matching pair. It was only a matter of time, I suppose :( Kira got the shock of her life this morning when I informed her that she had to be an advanced horse now, and she had ginormous shoes to fill. :o

anticipating that we're at the end of the road, finally... could I ask weekend planners to keep their ears to the ground, I will have a vacant stable if M goes off to the field to retire. Pathetic budget, but I've a very open mind and more than happy to take on a project. I'm Glos/Herefordshire but I don't mind travelling.

I'm so so sorry to read this :( Fingers crossed it's not as serious as you think and she's able to come back to work, if not I'm sure Kira will step up to the mark.

Could you get yourself a nice warmblood weanling or is that too long to wait?

In a year or 2 maybe, but if Millie's permanently off games then she will need to move because the yard we're on is not suited to retirees in the winter - there are spells where we can't turn out etc. So I will need a buddy for Kira ;) Tbh I'd rather get something that I can get on with straight away and I don't have the funds for something really *nice* even if it was a real baby!

Oh MP! :(
Sounds like Kira will have to be dancing her hairy booties up to advanced level pronto then.
Will absolutely keep an ear out - might a foray into ex racers be something worth looking into?

yes, DabDab, I'd prefer a mare really just because of K's hormone issues :wink3: and they seem to be hard to come by off the track but it's def something I'd be looking at.

Oh MP, that's not a good update at all. When will we know for sure if it's serious?

Keeping everything crossed for Millie.

lol! bit of a downer isn't it?! She's booked in at horspital on Wednesday morning, tbh this is more for me than for her as it's so similar to how the other hindleg presented last year, I'll be absolutely flabbergasted if it's something else. Dear old bat, she doesn't know what's good for her

I missed this, while I was in a damp, cold field in Warwickshire, having a whole week of utter insanity. But we played this weekend, won our first match, then were utterly hammered in our second. Final match we lost, but less horrendously, and I'm definitely getting better at playing a bit tactically. But I could've done without a member of my own team telling me I need a new horse at the end. Especially as Fergs wasn't the worst horse on the pitch in any of our matches...

Sorry to hear about Millie. I really hope it's nothing serious.

I will be getting ready for Equifest next week yay so packing, prepping pony and hopefully in between all that riding so that we don't make fools of ourselves next week :D

I am going equifest on Wednesday only to watch a friends daughter they are staying there all week, when are you going and what classes are you doing?

Oh MP - gutted for you. It all seemed to be going so well too.

Yeah I know. But I said when we started again this time that if she couldn't cope with proper turnout then there was no point, so it really WAS an accident waiting to happen... she's an idiot in the field sometimes. I'm bl00dy glad we cracked on this summer though, she has just been feeling amazing. Putting a brave face on ;) Onwards & upward, again.. feel like I've said this a lot recently, lol :D

Gutted for you MP. I really hope it's not the end of her ridden career as you've been doing so well. But I hope, if it is worse case, that you can be happy in time knowing what a fabulous time you've had with her, and what brilliant things you did first and second time (or more?) round. Fingers crossed for a good outcome though.

We spent the weekend popping cross poles to remind ourselves that we do know how to jump. And then doing some interval/gallop training in the fabulous big field we have. First off in company, then we went off on our own, then did it solo on Sunday. Sunday was much slower than Saturday but it's all good practice for being out on that xc on our own. OH also mapped out some distances for me so I can work on our timings too. Feeling v organised. Although training plan slightly up in the air whilst I deliberate over whether to do Munstead in Sept or not - may post another thread to help my thought process on that.

And lorry has packed up and may not be fixed for the next xc outing planned next weekend. Grrrrr.

Hope everyone had fun though being out and about.

Just caught up and couldn't not comment - so gutted to hear that MP, you've both been doing brilliantly :( :( Fingers crossed for you.

J got weighed this weekend - 696kg !!:eek: The woman did point out he is a heavy boned warmblood so is a chunk (everyone kept asking me if he was an ID) but could possibly do with losing a bit :o not overly concerned though. He was less last time he was weighed but that was mid-winter so not all that surprising!

I dragged my mum up to the fields to video us having a gallop on Sat :D and yesterday we went out for a hack with a friend and J happily swapped between being behind and leading, we had a canter and he cantered alongside and even went in front with a tiny bit of encouragement! Last summer he would not lead at all so that made my weekend!

So sorry to hear that MP, hopefully it's not as bad as it seems?

My weekend ended badly too, I went to my first ODE, did ok in the dressage, clear in the showjumping, but my pony decided I looked better on the table than his back in the cross country and I've broken my finger :( My poor friend (who owns the pony) was waiting in the start box when the words "medic please" came over the walkie talkie. She was beside herself and wanted to withdraw. Thankfully she didn't and ended in 2nd place :)

Really sorry to hear this, hoping it is nothing too serious!

So sorry to hear that MP.

I got back on my boy this weekend, albeit for 10 mins, as ridden rehab begins. I was expecting the worst when I took him to the vets for scans and contrast X-rays but we are 6 weeks on and nothing was found. Fingers crossed for you, it might not be all doom and gloom.

I think Millie has been talking to Pocholo - physio had a look at him this evening and thinks he looks 3/10th lame on his near hind :(. Hopefully I can get a vet to look at him tomorrow, so if anyone has any spare vibes can you send them this way as well as to Millie?

Boo for MP and Jiffy :(, lots of crossed fingers here.

Feel daft complaining about my monster now as I'm pretty sure she's sound at least :o. MP if you want a ridiculous baby carriage horse you are welcome to my grotbag!

It may surprise the group to hear that Skylla is still the devil, and napped, flailed and decided debauchory was the way forward this weekend :o...

She begrudgingly was better for the second test after I let her canter round the ring before the test, so we actually managed right canter in P19 rather than the flying horse-shaped-kite impression she did in P17 :rolleyes3:.

Nope, won't believe it, Skylla is super cool carriage horse supremo, you must've been mistaken....maybe the judge smelt funny
