I have a lesson tomorrow and it will be the first time I've seen Amber since camp. Its been helpful as the trainer has had time to do new things like getting her out hacking and herding cows etc without it being an issue if it upsets her for a few days. Not that any of it did, she's really taken to bossing the cows about :D

Kelsall is colouful and therefore can be spooky but is not that big. So depends what scares you! It seemed huge to me the first time I did it but I think Eland, Frickley, Someford, Stafford and Solihull are all bigger. Aston le Walls and Speetley were smaller though. I could be wrong so happy to be corrected (perception is an unreliable thing) but Kelsall is a lovely event I think. x

Oh good that you think Frickley is bigger, she's not spooky so 'should' be fine with the colours but lets see what this weekend brings...

I've taken to looking at photos of 90s rather than 80s I feel like then when I walk 80s theyll seem easier in comparison

Brilliant idea

, though has anyone else found that some of the 90 fences are nicer than the 80 ones? At llany there was a double of two chunky fences for the 80 and the 90 was two logs which just seemed nicer lol!

im off to a small low key dressage camp. I nearly cancelled after the new covid guidelines came out. But we will be staying in our own groups of 4 for the entire thing, and its just one night. so reckon we shoud be within the guidelines.

So will be having a few shandies saturday night. oh and a couple of lessons too.

Well I ended up doing the walk of shame and I’m not happy about it. there was a pair of wings lying at the side of the ring between fences one and two - she spooked at it and started bronking, and off I came.

I landed on my tailbone hard enough that my leg went numb, so that was my day over before it had even begun. I tried to get on Blue after but couldn’t lift my leg high enough to climb on (he’s big enough even on a good day). I’m so annoyed.

if I can walk tomorrow then I’ll be finding somewhere to take her Sunday. Gah ?

making googoo eyes at her boyfriend before she turned into a fire breathing dragon in the ring ?

Just got in from my lesson - I did jumping! This is huge for me,even if the jumps aren't. I haven't jumped since being back to riding and I'm a self-confessed wimp (but working on that as positively as I can). The last time I was jumping I got approximately this far height wise:
1600444079764.png

And you can see from the look on my face that it was my Everest at the time (I'd also come off on the previous attempt because the horse very kindly stopped instead of jumping).

Anyway I didn't jump that high today, just a nice little cross pole. The horse I was riding finds jumping a bit exciting so we mostly did trot poles and then the jump a couple of times on each rein. It was really good practice at using my seat to steady the trotting and lots of circles, turns etc to stop her pre-empting things. Cantered over a pole on the ground at the end to get a feel approaching in canter. Also very pleased to work more independently on warming up then being able to talk through what I notice/feel in comparison to my instructor. I think this will help me with share horse as I learn to work in the school but without it being a lesson every time.

So I'm really buzzing at how it went, both the jumping and learning how to 'contain' (don't know if that's the right word) a horse that tends towards forwards when excited. Also very pleased with my new Provent body protector which I forget I am wearing. :D

Oh BM, that's rubbish, I've hurt my coccyx before now and it took ages to recover. Hope you are not too sore.
Well done SP, keep building your confidence and little by little a little becomes a lot

Evening!

Well i've got my first ever hunter trial with my chap tomorrow. We've entered the 80.
I'm not holding out much hope of a clear round, he's very green still and it's not so much the height of the fences, but they are all really brightly coloured!! There is also a large mound thing, you ride up, pop a rail on top, come down and then 4 strides over a narrowish straw brush fence... could go either way but i think he'll be frazzled.

Just for experience though (must keep reminding myself!)

Ive just got back from a trip to wales where I ended up swimming in a waterfall so will be warming up the rest of the weekend. That was COLD. But worth it.

Had a fab flat lesson Thursday when I was told to be more firm, but its been 6 months since Ive seen my instuctor and there has been improvement.

Hack tomorrow, jumping the small XC fences at home Sunday as I have entered a 70cm hunter trial a the beginning of october and I cant remember the last time I jumped proper solid fences! Horse (touch wood) should be ok as he likes jumping just about anything.

Hope you’re ok BM- please be very careful with coccyx injuries. I injured mine a few years ago and the whole of my lower back started to become problematic as a result. My coccyx is now about as useful a chocolate fireguard and spend most of its time waggling about when I sit or change positions as the ligaments no longer support it.

I’m much better today thankfully so think I just gave it a proper whack yesterday. I should hopefully manage to get back on board tomorrow. ??
I broke my coccyx years ago and it’s nowhere near as painful as that so think it’s probably just bruising.

I’m still gutted about yesterday because she warmed up so well and felt absolutely amazing. ?
There’s a 3 day show at our local venue next week so will plan to take her there if she jumps ok during the week.

hope everyone’s having a better Saturday than I am ?

We had a group hack from the yard yesterday - everything from a Shetland to a Shire, along with multiple kids on foot because they shared a pony, escorting parents, and a beginner rider on a newly-bought hunter. I feel quite sorry for anyone who encountered us on the TPT!

More hacking this morning, and tomorrow, I'm letting somebody else ride Blue... She needs more exercise than I have time to give her at the moment, so I was considering paying someone to ride. However, there's a lovely kid who shares a pony on my yard, and her mum always walks out with her when she's hacking, so I'm seeing how the mum gets on with Blue and hopefully they'll be able to hack together.

Sounds and looks like we're having some good horsey weekends. Though I'm glad you're not too sore today @blood_magik

My pony is a superstar. She was so good, not at all bothered by the obstacles. It was a really useful training exercise - we lost rein back and sideways movement to the left so bits to work on. She was a bit tense - as was I - and I couldn't get a relaxed/forwards enough trot to try to many of the obstacles in trot, but I'm just really happy with how well she just got on with it today.
We also caught up with a lady who I know from a few years ago - she genuinely asked if it was the same pony and says she is now alot slimmer and trimmer/fitter - best compliment ever!

Little bit of video - we'll see if anyone here is familiar enough with W.E to spot my mistake ;) it's very apparent how tense I am, my heel's lifted, knees are jammed in and shoulders have rounded, so please be kind, I've been in 2 minds about whether to post it.

Not familiar with WE, but I'm going with either your whip was in the wrong hand, or your black bangle thing should have been dropped in the barrel.
Your horse looks lovely, I am familiar enough with WE to know its challenging and asks questions from all sorts of disciplines. It's not for me, but my owner does a bit. Supercob couldn't do the sideways pole last year so we both worked on it, and over summer I happened to stop with front feet one side back feet the other side of a dressage board. He paused and proceeded with no aids at all to walk sideways along it ?

New baby ex-racer is hopefully leaving the ground tomorrow - RoR polework/jumping clinic. So far she's the most genuine and sensible horse I've ever had so hopefully tomorrow will continue in that pattern!

'Old' ex-racer gets his shoes back on next week which is exciting, DDFT injury rehabbing can begin properly.

Looks fab! The only time I tried WE, I was on my 16.3hh, extremely reactive, dressage diva share horse. We did the clover/barrels thing perfectly, but everything else was horrifying and couldn't POSSIBLY be allowed!

Your mistake - you picked the pole up with your hand on the wrong side. (I can't figure out how to explain it! But it should have been so the top of the pole was pointing forward once you'd picked it up, rather than backwards.)

Super lesson with Millie today. Worked on the canter and encouraging her to give me a bit more. Her trot work is amazing after she’s done a decent canter so we’re going to try a slightly different way of warming her up at competitions, with canter being the focus and very little in the way of walk and trot.
She’ll have a chilled day tomorrow and then has her vet chiro visit on Tuesday.

I had good lessons with my boys. I had a little jump with the cyclops yesterday, first time in months (if not years!). He really enjoyed it, and so did I. It was a tiny cross pole with a placing pole but it felt lovely. And then we finished off by doing some shoulder in, travers and half pass which is coming together quite nicely.

I just did flatwork with the big lad. He’s out competing next week, all being well, so we worked on some of the movements in his test. He is feeling great. I clipped him as well, which I hate doing but he looks so smart afterwards.

I took the pup to baby agility, which is mainly tunnels, sitting on things, mini trotting poles etc but with a little jump to finish (tiny since they are still growing). He loved it.

I have been waiting to post as I wanted evidence to share with you all.. he was amazing at his first ever hunter trial, flew round, I got to fence 6 and was so in shock that he’d just nailed a Cornish wall, really skinny twisted log thing and cantered over a ditch like it was nothing that I just didn’t ride going into a red table and he slowed up. He felt like he wanted to jump it from a stop but I was concerned he’d knock himself and this round was about confidence.

Anyway we circled and popped it, went on to jump lots more fences including going up a big mound (or mountain as I prefer to call it), popping a rail on top, coming down 3 strides and over a narrowish straw brush.. then the big “scary” white trekenner which he popped like a pro!

I couldn’t be more proud.. Here’s the evidence...

What's your puppy Dressage cob? Looks super cute.
Sounds like some super weekends all round. We jumped round an 85 course quite comfortably, we had a couple of fences as one part was against the clock and I was riding for time too much - made us messy. He'll never be a speed demon, but hes powerful and when I ride better careful so as we arent doing straight BS it doesnt matter
