We had such a great lesson on Saturday. It was a bit windy, so Henry was fresh, but the kind where you can channel the energy in a positive way. We Worked on shoulder in and Travers and it really clicked for both of us. He is so much stronger and more supple so he is finding the work much easier. All his paces are more uphill too, and my coach said she could see an improvement in his muscle. Saddles need to be refitted now I think.

The lesson showed some really good quality work and it felt great, I felt like I rode well and was using my aides effectively which makes such a big difference, though I need to work on being able to feel my seat bones equally.

Sundays hack was very spooky, Coolie came out nice and energetic but was spooking at nothing so I kept it short. It wasn't normal for him and I think the constant wind was causing issues for him. Hoping to have a jump tonight if it's cool enough, otherwise will have to wait until Wednesday.

Lunged on Saturday (that was exciting... kite flying springs to mind!) and did a stretchy schooling session yesterday. Millie is on fire at the moment, it’s frustrating to not be able to get out to some lessons.

Weirdly, I had been contemplating putting my brave pants on this weekend and getting Millie out on the roads more, then a local horse was killed on the road on Saturday, and the horse with it ended up in surgery for 3 hours. Both teenage riders thrown off and the driver left the scene. They are trying to trace the driver but have no reg number to go by. It just confirmed to me why I don’t want to ride on the roads anymore. We are quite a tight knit horse community here and it’s really hit everyone hard.

Gosh I saw that on Facebook - what an awful incident. It is worrying as new yard only has road work to hack. Had a slightly stressful one yesterday due to a road closure so had to divert round a new road, which was narrow, but had someone on foot which seems to slow people down more. Finnegan is good to hack, but it wasn’t relaxing!

Like Bernster, I saw this on FB. What an awful awful incident, it's horrific knowing that people behave so badly when they have caused such carnage. We are lucky around my yard as people drive slowly and are generally very respectful of the horses. There are a couple of 'rat-run' roads but they're avoidable on our main routes. I'm not sure I'd want to be on a yard that required hacking on fast, busy roads so I can understand your concerns.

I did a couple of schooling sessions on Danny and a nice potter around the village. Danny's feeling focused and has a great work ethic, he tries so hard to understand what I want. He does find half-pass tricky but I gave it a go in canter and (while far from perfect!) that seemed to help the trot HP flow more so I will do some more with that. Also canter transitions and within-the-pace - he tends to get a bit stuck in canter collection so I need to work more on his reactiveness between collected / working / medium.

I saw that on FB - I'd like to say I cannot believe someone would drive off, but having seen the driving on the roads near us I can totally believe it sadly. I had a lovely driver with a rattly trailer stop for me and the microcob on Sunday. Literally stopped, put his handbrake on and waited for us to go past before he drove off. She's really good in traffic but a lot of horses would have worried at his get-up and I was very grateful - couldn't thank him enough. More drivers like that needed and less of the twats who cause these kind of horrific accidents.

That sounds absolutely awful. We are really lucky here in winter that most drivers are considerate.

I wish I could say I can't imagine anyone driving off, but last summer I met someone who had been in an accident (in a car) pushed into a drainage ditch on a narrow lane, and the other driver had driven off! Which is a bit less extreme, but opened my eyes to what wankers some people can be.

I hope the riders are ok, or at least can recover, and the car can be identified- it must have some damage?

I saw that on fb and it made me feel ill. I’m so sorry.

Exactly the same reason I don’t ride out on my roads. They often look idyllic in pics but even with something sensible you are really risking your life. I’ve reported numerous near misses and the police do nothing. Even when me and my friend got chased and hounded by a driver who ran Nova into a ditch they did absolutely jack.
