Weekend Plans - Week 2 of Feb

Nova enjoyed his little outing- it was a bit wild and windy there but he was very well behaved. I just need to remember to ride him forwards because he's bold and careful- the hangover from having a spooky one is that I tend to prop and hold for the short one.
He is gradually accumulating more life experience and isn’t far off being ready for a show now. He definitely needs a bigger fence so I've upped his height for his next few training things.

You must be in my part of the world Mule, I was at Mendip Plains on Saturday….equally windy.

Went out with our new quest team Saturday with 3 riders and only 2 horses as my beast has a niggling abscess (someone told him he was out to do more dressage so he pulled a sick note), so the little horse had to step up to make sure we had a team to compete!

I rode him a lot in the past but as he has got older (19) and I have got fatter (i like cake) I havent done much with him for 5 plus years. I adore him though and he just makes me smile every time I sit on him.

Well, he pulled out all the stops for a win in the prelim section with a PB! He has had some niggles over the years and at one point he mihht have just been a happy hack, so to be back doing this and well is just wonderful. Still smiling today, and my usual mount is looking a whole lot better so also good news.

Nothingy weekend but chipping away at little bits of horsey education all the same. Frank wore his turnout rug for the first time yesterday, tbh I'm bored of filling my nostrils with dirt from grooming him so figured it was time to tick that box. there was some humpy cantering  but he settled quickly enough. Tick.

Today was Hera's turn. the heavens opened overnight and she was cold. I was glad we had done Rug School before leaving the nursery paddock so she was a good, if slightly wriggly, pupil having it put on. There's nowhere to tie up at the big field where she is now so at some point we might have to learn "stay" ;)

This evening i prized Frank away from Kira to go and meet the indoor school. Kira yelled her head off with FOMO which was unhelpful but he did wander round the big room quite happily so that's a good starting point.

Star pupil Hera in her mini-me Rambo

Wow she’s grown up!

Yep and she's looked like a little horse for quite a while now. 20 months now. The stallion seems to produce youngstock that grow up like this, I've met quite a few who are similar. Just hope she goes up a little further... should go out a fair bit too if ma and pa are anything to go by ?

@milliepops her face 'well I suppose this is ok' :D

I've not ridden since Dec (job change put paid to anything I had booked) :( Now struggling to get a weekend lesson! There are only two senior coach privates available on a Sat, they're permanently fully booked so every Sunday you have to join the waitlist for them... There is an advanced group on a Sat but distance travelled/cost vs group setting just isn't worth it! There's slightly better availability on a Sunday but I'm not paying £90 a lesson for someone I don't even know what their quals/experience is

We had a pleasant afternoon out at our third bash at this affiliated dressage lark. One prelim test, 2.5hr wait then a novice test. We filled the time in between getting some volunteering ours in, collecting sheets and manning the call-up.
Really pleased with the big horse, he was lovely to ride today, really on side and civil.
Delighted with 2nd in the prelim with 67.68% and 5th in novice with 66.31%. I had limited time to practice and 100% agreed with both judges’ feedback.

Some in hand polework planned for tomorrow, a little quick ridden session on Tues and then Pammy lesson on Weds.

So we ended up doing pretty much nothing. The weather was awful and Badger was very spicy so we had a lunge on Saturday and a “loose school” with his buddy yesterday.

Got a call today saying that he had escaped from his field. His field is the first on the driveway with a little lane and then the main road. Thankfully he was found by a neighbour in the lane stuffing his face but I felt so sick when they told me as if he had literally gone 2 metres straight on he would be on the road or further down the lane he would be out in miles of farm land/public footpath/bridleway. I can’t get down til after work but I am definitely going to check/reinforce the fencing as soon as I get there!

Well Mr D has certainly benefitted from his sports massage! He is straighter and not heavy on the right rein. I managed to dodge the rain this morning but it is really quite warm for february. We did a nice long warm up, with lots of circles, spirals and serpentines then the meat was asking him for different gears in trot and canter whilst ensuring he stayed light in the contact, not btv and in exactly the same rhythm. It's so much easier in sitting trot to keep him energised and on the hind leg but I had to work my old body rather hard to prevent "rag doll syndrome" Canter is easier though.

Fingers firmly crossed for DC.
I had a nice surprise trip out with a friend for a 2 hour jolly round Thetford forest on Saturday and then a nice steady hours hack out with Ambers favourite lead horse yesterday.
Amber decided to have a couple of fun spooks on the way back yesterday but I think that was more her amusing herself than any real issue.
