Weekend plans :)

I'm very late to this party as it's already Tuesday! We had a long weekend and after a nice bush ride Friday arvo with a friend who's been away for 5 months Saturday was filled with un horsey things, Hubby became an Aussie. So we had to go to the ceremony and had a big party as you do.

Then Sunday after less than ideal prep (not jumping in a few weeks, a light work week, a walk out in the bush and then a day off!) I took young Henry to do some SJ training rounds. He was very fresh and decided that listening to me was optional but he wasn't silly and he did listen after a bit of a discussion. So I think it's a win especially as I didn't feel nervous. Just need to get a bit more consistent but for the first outing of the year it's a solid starting point.

Yesterday was another ride out with some friends, which was a fun but very hot morning. It hit 40C yesterday so I hid in the aircon after that.

I had a lesson last night at RC. Jumping exercises... Turned out to be lots of fun. First of a we jumped with one hand, and with eyes shut, then both.... Then we jumped a course, and Fionn went really well. I rode him on at a much better pace, and he didn't chip in at all.

P.S. 40 degrees... wow.

Took my mare out to course hire on Monday night. Her first time jumping away from home since her tendon op. She was complete nutbar Saturday and Sunday so my expectations were pretty low. However she was great. A bit quick, but focused and we had a great time. Not sure we are ready for a warm-up yet, but a show doesn't seem like a crazy idea.

40 degrees is too hot for me, but after this morning I am tempted

40 degrees sounds horrendous... But mostly I'm intrigued...

1. "Hubby became an Aussie" - say what?! Is this is a thing? Can you do that?
2. "Ceremony" - what, like when you get invested at Scouts?

Sorry, I'm bored, so I have nothing better to do than try to picture this! It's icy and snowy and I have just ride and led for the last couple of days because between the mud, the ice, the snow and the roadworks, hacking is a bit tedious atm. I've been voluntarily doing risk assessments for a new RC for heaven's sake. I need intervention!

Time to take the washing machine for a spin...

Hubby is from the UK originally and moved out here about 5 years ago. He became a citizen on the weekend, so he is a duel citizen now. He gets 2 passports and everything. Sadly I still only get one. He says he just wanted to get out before Brexit ;) He had to go through a lot of paperwork to get it but since he has no plans on moving back to the UK (and I'm allergic to the cold and the wet, although somehow we always seem to be in the UK at sketchy times of the year, never summer!) he decided to become a citizen so us Aussies can't kick him out.

I have no idea about Scouts, but you get your name read out and you have to make a pledge to Australia. There was a picture of the Queen too.

As for the hot weather, you do get used to it and most places have aircon. You do outdoor things early in the morning or late in the evening. Morning always best though, before it gets hot. The weather we have had where we are, in the South West is nothing compared to the rest of the country who have been really suffering with consistent high temps. We are lucky, it gets to 38-40 for a couple of days, then dips back down to 30, which is quite reasonable. It makes any preseason training and comps hard though, you never know if you'll get a reasonable day or not and I won't ride or float out in anything over 35 if I don't have to.
