Out out! Pole dancing on Sunday. We usually go from eleventy billion poles to full grids but I can't remember the last time we left the ground so we'll see.

Also booked dressage in a couple of weeks. Not BD as nowhere near ready. Haven't done a test since ????? I know last Flatwork lesson was August 2020 o_O Maybe, just maybe, we'll get back to some normality v soon.

Have fun whatever you're doing!

My boy is finally getting a run out at an EI100. But not with me.. my amateur status means I can't ride him, but I can get a friend to. Its kinda ridiculous as we are similar riders, but I am obvs much more used to the horse since hes mine, and I'll be there anyway doing my usual scoring job so not like adding to the numbers.
Happy to stick to the regs though, if it means we can keep going in some form, the pro's can maintain their livelihoods, etc etc.

But needs must, he is fit as a flea and ready to go, the ground is perfect, the weather forecast is good, and he deserves a good spin out. He's 16 and I dont know how many more seasons he will have so I'd rather he got one event per month for the summer and he may as well start now :)
Mine 18 now and still eventing fit and showing no signs of wanting to slow down ?

Well, we *should* have been going to Breckenborough eventing this weekend, but sadly Simon's weird self-harming habit has resulted in some odd cellulitis/lymphangitis which we're treating with antibiotics but is far from resolved... fingers crossed that we can make our next event at Solihull at the end of the month instead....

Meanwhile, rising 4yo is going to do the dressage competition that runs at our yard - last minute entry due to the non-eventing circumstances and just going to wobble around an intro. Should be entertaining!
Oh know such a shame is he still bad ? With his cellulitiss / lymphangitsis zx

Oh no AE, hope all is ok :/

Going to take my young one out to a lesson for the first time this weekend. Figured we had mounting, walk, trot, turning and stop reasonably well established so time to push the boundaries and see how she goes. The place is quiet and low key with no distractions so hopefully she stays on side. Otherwise just schooling and hacking out planned with the ponio, I might clip her out this weekend as well. Definitely grown her coat the last few weeks and getting very foamy under saddle.

Going to be -1C on Monday night, winter is coming  However it's unusual to have frosts this early in the season, I have to go dig my winter rugs out because it's a bit mean to go from 10-11 at night to -1 in just two nights.

We have dressage club rally on Saturday and a training day on Sunday. Coolie thought he was done with dressage, but Henry is still not sorted so he continues to be number 1 horse. Looking forward to it, we are going to have a bit of fun for sure.

Monday we also have a busy day, both horses have the dentist and then Henry is off to the vet to work out exactly what is wrong. Hopefully something easy to fix, keep fingers crossed for us!

Ha Malachy is being clipped too this weekend, too sweaty. He had the works done yesterday- 3 grass seeds cut out (bad batch of hay) a tongue laceration stitched, 2 baby teeth pulled and 2 filed. So he has a week off. I’ve just sourced low sugar hay plus have bought a net to go on their round bales so hopefully his waist line will be reducing soon! Very exciting first lesson with the baby! Enjoy ?

No plans for the weekend, but I have some video from a lesson yesterday.
My torn ankle and I are soldiering on (stirruplessly). I've had some really good rides and a lot of things to work on. Today was not a good ride. Odin has days where his brain is very noticeably absent, and it takes a lot of concentrated effort to get him back to somewhere in the vicinity of the arena
icon_rolleyes.gif
After a battle and some sharp in-hand work we sort of got back together.

I am really working on c/w/c, and we tried two changes as well. The change across the diagonal was very squiggly, but the one from cc on the circle was as good as they get at the moment. We rarely have the violent kick-outs anymore. If anything, he tends to suck back and hop for a stride, while he processes it. Which is sooooooooo much more desirable than flinging himself around. So for now I'm happy with it.

That’s awful AE Re the road fall. Hope she’s not too shaken

Thanks. Its not great ?. She was on Toby just hacking in walk up a hill which Tom had said was good for him. But the bike came roaring down the hill towards and then past him. He span and bolted downhill. Given he is normally totally unflappable he must have been so frightened. Plus I doubt galloping down a road with his head in the air did him any favours the day after his Osteo session. So I'm scared he's undone all Tom's work and Katie has limited mobility in her shoulder so not sure she can event on Sunday. But hopefully she can and is not too frightened by the experience. She seems pretty ok about it. I'm more upset than she is!

I think teenagers are soooo much better at brushing things off. When I think of all the things that happened to me out riding when I was her age, if that happened now I’d probably never get back on a horse!

Don’t worry about Toby it was only a moment of less than ideal posture, not like he went round like that for an hour :)

That's awful :( I usually find motorbikes round us are great with horses, what an absolute t&*t ? I'm glad Katie isn't too frightened by it and that her shoulder improves. As Michen says, I'm sure it hasn't done Toby much harm, it was only a moment.

XC schooling tonight and eventing on Sunday. First time in 2 years .

My back is pretty much back to normal, have chiro later today for a final sort and then hoping xc schooling goes ok! I sent the horse to a pro friends this week while I couldn't move so she has at least stayed in work.

After 6 weeks of walking, we're finally doing a little bit of trot! Did a light session in the school on Weds (30mins, only 2 laps of the arena in trot), it was the first time riding in there since end of Sept, he was really good! Tomorrow I'm planning to go up on the downs for a short route with only slight hills (usually going up there for a decent hack requires steep hills, not quite there yet!) for a change of scenery and also to have a trot on some grass. Had a tiny trot out hacking this morning and felt good, so fingers crossed it continues!

Zilch for me. Mum had a flat lesson last weekend and a jump lesson this week, sharer has a jump lesson next week.

Starting to get really jealous of people getting out and about and have been toying with the idea of hopping on for a little plod but can't shake the fear of the guilt I would feel if (for the first time ever) I did come off Rosie on the flat.

Yay we finally have something to report!! I took Maddie out for the first time to a new place (for her) yesterday for a clinic with Tom Graham. I was very nervous to say the least, which wasn't helped by there being two tractors belting round the field next to the arena harrowing and rolling. She tends to be quite 'looky' and gets a little worried, and needs to take her confidence from her rider. I am finding that quite tough at the moment as it's still very early days. We kept it very slow and steady, and kept everything 'contained' whilst keeping her mind busy with lots of gear changes/transitions etc. She was a star and didn't put a foot wrong. I am so pleased to have got that outing 'ticked off' and grateful for Tom for pitching everything exactly as it was needed. A few fuzzy screen grabs.....

Good luck with the horse viewing Bernster - I can totally sympathise/empathise with you - I hate viewing horses, and having to get through all the 'firsts' with them too.

Hope Katie and Toby are ok AE, and Bear Michen.

Have fun everyone who is out and about whatever you are up to, and keep safe. xx

Yay I finally have something to work towards. I've booked a fun ride in june! That means I've got 8 weeks to get B (the field ornament) fit enough for a 10mile ride. So lots of hacking for me in the next few weeks.

We left robin on his own with a treat ball and the sheep last week and he was fine. Didn't really care that we had gone. So that is one big hurdle out of the way. Think that was more my issue than his.

Robin will be showing soon so i will be dragging his coat out as best I can as well.

Hope all poorly ponies and people are feeling better soon. Big hugs to everyone that needs one. Enjoy the weekend guys!

Well after loads of ££££ it transpires... Bear has a sore fetlock. Nothing to see on x ray or scan thankfully so medicated it, a week off and then had a frank chat with the vet and have decided just to do straight lines for several months. Hacking, maybe some jumps over ditches or water intro etc but no schooling. I feel something has gone wrong somewhere and it will only help to get the foot balance consistently sorted and just let him “relax” and not worry about any sort of schooling.

I am sure for most he could be worked through and have a busy useful summer but he doesn’t need to be jumping SJ rounds or dressage tests, he can hack out 5/6 days a week to keep slim, see the world boxing around and have a jolly time and we can come back to the school at a later time. He’s rising 5- it’s surely only going to benefit him long term.

So good really, I’m glad we found a block (though it was a sort of mostly blocked but not entirely but could be due to the numb lower limb feeling), I rest easy knowing there’s nothing to “rehab” as such and we can focus on hacking plus a little strengthening work in hand.

Skylla’s head won’t fit through her door with all this admiration ??.

It was lovely to one be out and two get to meet some lovely people ☺️. Supercob is indeed super and even if he did buck mid jump spider was just too handsome for words ? (not a sucker for an Arab cross at all here ?).

Feeling more in tune again now.

The slow way is nearly always the quickest way with horses. All mine have caught up very quickly having had a few months off here and there as young horses for various reasons where they just got hacked.

SJ schooling on Sunday!
OH is in France so, errr, I will be the jockey. Some may recall what happened last week. My bum is still black and blue and I could hardly sleep for 2 nights because I was so sore. I definitely do not bounce any more ?

Anyway, rode this evening and popped over a few wee jumps and added a couple of little technical bits to make sure I could still actually ride and he was super, so hopefully all will be fine!! Going with my friend and her 4yo (second jumping outing ever) so I think it will be fairly low key haha.

Will prob give him tomorrow off; I have done zero uni work all week, so need to catch up.

Part one went well. Trailer all good even after 6 months of not moving. Horse loaded and off we went to the beach. A tad excited, but that’s our first outing since October ticked off and all ready to compete in a fortnight. Ish. If I ignore the ‘did you mean to go sideways’ (uhm no) and ‘he looks quite bouncy’ (yep). At least I now know that if I yell ‘no’, he stops!

I completely agree, but he has had the “slow way” already having spent most of the year I’ve had him (imported from Ireland) hacking/long reining with some schooling thrown in so I’m a little miffed and feel like I’ve gone wrong somewhere or ignored something. But he has done some schooling and he’s done it with poor foot balance and the effects of that can’t be disregarded.

I think they go through phases and whilst he’s always been treated with the utmost care, never pushed and with longevity in mind I think when something is physically off with a youngster you just have to back the heck off and concentrate on the stuff that will only help them..despite the fact he is only improving in the school, so hacking it is and some fun stuff for now. There’s still a lot a young horse can learn in straight lines and he will be kept busy enough!

He is a lovely chap, I should have sold him 4 months ago and made a nice profit as planned, but.... obviously I love him ?

We're getting that every few days in the UK at the moment. I'm sick of it.

It better not become a habit here! This time of year is hard enough to rug for anyway o_O at least you guys are heading into generally warmer weather, after a long winter you deserve it!

Just back from taking the three year old out for her first ridden outing. I am super pleased with how she handled it, I had low expectations but did end up getting on after a polite lunge and had a nice walk/trot lesson. Starting to work into a more consistent light contact and was super concentrated. Very pleased with her :) She's going to sleep well tonight after that adventure!

Had a fabulous working hunter clinic, B Fuzzy tackled everything with great gusto, our 1st time properly jumping since last September! Only trouble was, the more we did, the more she 'thought' we ought to be going at jump off speed! So there was a lot of checking back.
Huge variety of jumps from roll top, hanging white gate, double with flower boxes under, triple bar as a fan, water tray, wall with rails etc, 8 numbered fences with 9 jumps.
V pleased with her tho, no poles down, no stops or run outs, just a bit hurried at times.
Got off feeling v warm indeed, maybe less layers on next time lol.

Tomorrow is dressage clinic, so very much hoping as there wont be jumps, that B might knuckle down a bit more easily!

Could do with opinions, Tom Beech is nearby (an hour) and has a space on his clinic so I could take Bear.

Would you still recommend him those that have used him, even if you know what the issue is? Am also not sure if it matters that he was medicated yesterday in his fetlock, to then have body work so soon?

I don’t want to waste £250 if it’s pointless taking him to Tom with something known? Or is he worth it just for the body work he may do to help alleviate the inevitable tension?

Just in case it’s any help - when my gelding had a weird lymphangitis thing on his lower leg magnetic bands were really helpful in reducing the swelling and keeping it away.

Since then I’ve also used the Rambo ionic wraps and they’ve also seemed to help him.
