Aaaah! Super exciting!! :D I also love your Ludo updates, it's so fab to read how your boys are getting on and the relationships you have with each of them.

I think I'm hacking tomorrow, or at the very least going up to the yard which I'm really looking forward to. No lesson this week as couldn't get booked in and to be honest I've got a lot to do (as always) on my thesis so will plough on with that so I can enjoy more horse stuff next weekend instead.

Lesson this evening and probably SJ comp on Sunday .

Following on from the thread about the bad motorway accident, I ordered 3 popup cones and an led hazard triangle - which will stay in the tow vehicle

Have a good weekend everyone

Snap!! I got 2 cones and the triangle, pleased with both. The triangle is small but mighty ! Obv hope never to need it but I feel a bit better prepared if I do ?

Good choice! Yes the triangle is bright and sturdy.
3 cones was perhaps OTT but never mind.

Horse looks very smart @rara007

Got mine from Amazon. The triangle is ALLOMN LED Portable Work Light and the cones are the AA pop up safety cone. Once you search for warning triangles it might give you cheaper options as there’s another one now showing on my Amazon.

I can't do "Weekend" as I don't ride my shares then, but I hacked out Miss F this morning and she was a proper sweetie, nicely forward and as soft as butter as her owner had schooled her the day before. I'm having a lesson on Mr D on Monday and schooling him on Wednesday. I'll pop over to see Rose on Monday after my lesson and take a pic. Owner trains at AM dressage so we have discussed going together in the near future which will be good fun and I'm hoping I can take Mr D to the RC Winter series if they run it this year. Rose and I were runners up in 2019.
Good luck to everyone out competing!

Still in lockdown  getting really old now (so much for "covid zero").
Still, we have been deemed allowed to meet with up to 4 other people now. So my dressage confidante has offered to be my (masked, distanced) eyes on the ground next week. Something to look forward to at least!

I doubt things will move much until next year sadly, so the months ahead will be used to train for when competitions are finally allowed again. On the plus side, my youngster is healing well from her mega chest wound and should be ride to hop on in a few weeks. Also, spring is in the air and the weather is warming up!

Have a good weekend all, from myself the fed up misery guts :p

Nothing much today, just a hack.
Having a jump lesson with new YO tomorrow, just hoping Theo can find some energy. He was flat last weekend, he’s had an easy week this week but still felt flat when schooling yesterday. Will have to suck it and see in the lesson. YO is an event we and we need to get our jumping established so it will be interesting so see what she thinks.

Not really Dolly's day at Frickley BE90 today. An average but ok 34.5 dressage and clear SJ meant they were reasonably placed going into XC. She was clear well within the time a few weeks ago at Frickley but today she felt a bit flat. She often loses a bit of sparkle when her coat is chaging but has been flying recently in training. But today she just ran out of energy towards the end and was nursed home with 11 time faults and also had a stop at a big fence straight after the water. She had dropped to trot (as she often does in water - that's one area she likes to have a little think about) so approached in trot and did not have enough oomph to jump uphill out of trot. So 20 pens too.

So we will give her a few days off and see if she bounces back. She nornally does very quickly when this happens, so fingers crossed.

Millie went a bit flat last week, I was verging on getting worried, then there was hair coming out everywhere and I realised it’s coat change time. She was the same last year.
She had a few days off this week and I hacked her yesterday- she pinged around for the 45minutes we were out so I think she’s feeling a bit more like herself.

That's reassuring! The first year I panicked and got the vet out but now we know that she loses some form for a short period every year. But it is unpredictable when it happens. Last year it was not till October. I've bought some ProPell which I hope will help.

Yep, it was end of September/beginning of October last year for us too, so I really wasn’t expecting it just yet and it hadn’t even entered my head. Have to admit to feeling a bit relieved when I groomed her one day and got showered in hair!

Dolly is also moulting like mad. I need to clip her again too. It must be weird weather patterns making the time of year so different this year?

I had one exactly the same as this and would always stick them on Propell Plus at this time of year, up the protein levels in feed and clip as soon as possible.

I fell off! I was third and our seconds saddle slipped so she fell just ahead of fence 3. We stopped because he was a bit distracted as she's his field wife. So our fourth passed us, I circled and represented, thought we were going and didn't so I ended up in the hedge. We both got back on and saw our remaining riders jump back in to the field so we just kicked on to follow them on for the rest of the course. Missed about 4 fences but apart from that had a great day.

Oh no Roxylola, you bruised? How careless of you lol, seriously, hope all ok x

Had a very busy day out, frillies in every class with a good clutch of 2nds and a reserve champ in the WHP classes, plus de noviced by winning novice ridden class. Absolutely shattered, bet B must be too, but she was giving her all in everything.

Is it bed time yet?

I think Theo is having me on. He was flat last week, flat schooling on Friday (after a very quiet week) and we had a jump lesson this morning.
I explained to new instructor that I usually jump in a universal bit, bit given his flatness I’d be surprised if he gathered enough energy to jump the jumps, let alone consider any silliness.
The warm up wasn’t promising, flat and tripping over his own feet. But once we’d popped a few jumps he woke up, started pulling me into the fences and even had a few silly moments.
Overall a good lesson, new instructor was mainly complementary about him, he has a tidy jump and a good canter.
I’m hoping to keep up with the jumping to give us something else to aim at and to give Theo some variety.

Didn't end up hacking this weekend which I feel a bit sad about. Good sign though as I've been annoyed the nerves haven't quite gone away - they can't be that bad if I really wanted to ride after all! I did make H's bed up extra nicely though and gave him a real good scratch after taking his fly mask off which he seems to rather appreciate. Hopefully we can go out next week instead and it's prompted me to book another canter hack with the RS. And to top up the horse fund (which is actually getting fairly close to where it needs to be now :D )

So, we had impromptu plans. On Friday, I entered an unaff show jumping at a local equestrian centre with one of our friends. I decided to do 70 and 80 and thought that if 70 goes badly, I can withdraw from the 80. Well we got 6th in the 70 with one pole and a nap at the gate which forced me to circle. Then the 80, he was flying round and honestly felt so good but he napped at the gate again, despite me preparing for it, and I came off at fence 9/12! Annoyed at myself but over the moon with him and how he was jumping. He didn’t feel like he was backing off or looking at any of the fences, and they had some spooky fillers!!

Fence judged today and left feeling pretty sad actually. We were about 3/4 of the way around an admittedly hilly XC but there were so so many overtired and clearly unfit horses, being shouted at and whipped and spurred. One rider we eventually pulled whose horse had actually dropped back to a walk it was so exhausted said “she’s always like this” and tried to contest it.

I cannot imagine presenting a tired horse to a fence, and poorly, and then calling it a name because it’s chipped in not jumped cleanly. Or thinking it’s ok that my horse is rapping every single solid fence. And the riders on horses clearly too small for them and having no fitness to hold themselves up around the course themselves. Pretty grim

I don’t know if today was a one off as I can’t say I’ve ever noticed so much awful riding and tired horses when walking courses but ?

Michen Snap. The horse was obviously exhausted and I’m surprised it got as far as far as it did and there was another male rider that I pulled off at my jump because he’d had 4 faults and the horse was also tired. I judged all day yesterday as well and while there were some chubby looking horses there were none as tired as those two today. I found the 100 class a bit scary, so many of the horses leapt into the water with riders ever so slightly out of control yet they somehow managed to scramble over the last part. I’m not sure it was tiredness causing horses to clunk so many fences though, many riders were coming into my combination far to fast and hitting the jump all wrong, very few rode quietly or sympathically, it was kick kick kick, haul them up a few strides out then kick again. Poor horses were clearly confused.

Woo well done for frillies thats a great day.
My right bum cheek is a bit ouchie but otherwise I'm fine - I just pitched over his ears and splatted in to the hedge. Was totally comical really. His owner came to see if we were all OK, and as she got there I was all - quick they're in the top corner let's go! ???

Ha did I meet you today!??

It has really put me off fence judging again tbh, but if today was worse than normal then hopefully it’s a one off. I can think of less than 10 riders who actually seemed to be on horses still full of running
