I beg to differ, im not aware of any farriers on the forum so you do you! And ill stick to my regime thanks though.
ETA Im not the one looking for advice, might be better responding to OP.
Well save you breath and tell someone who will care thenYou missing the irony of you telling me not to give advice when you are giving advice is amazing.
I dont care if you want my advice. I care that you are offering appalling advice to other people. Farriers have no nutritional training.
Agree, I was supplementing with just biotin for feet 40 years ago on vets advice, I think, but we have (mostly ) moved on since then, as it is realised that there are better options. This article is more in favour of biotin supplementation, but stresses it needs lysine, fatty acids etc, hence it not being likely that pure biotin is the best option.
Exploring the Benefits of Biotin for Horses: A Supplement for Equine Hoof Health
Dr. Worth delves into the important role of biotin in promoting hoof health. It emphasizes the effectiveness of biotin supplements in improving the growth rate and overall condition of the hoof. I’ve not read it yet, will do but as above my dog has really done amazingly on biotin but I do feed it along side salmon oil interestingly. I assume that’s why, to provide fatty acidsThis article is more in favour of biotin supplementation, but stresses it needs lysine, fatty acids etc, hence it not being likely that pure biotin is the best option.

I’m wracking my brains trying to think but there’s nothing.Agree that your farrier needs to take this more seriously, and maybe taking the shoes off would help with the clean up job. Any chance you have had an abscess blow out? There are signs of stress that occurred around two months ago, looking at the rings on the hoof; this could be anything from change of feed, to being bullied, to increase in work etc.. Or it may signal the start of the lesion you are now seeing. Maybe supplements will support the feet in the future, but I'm with you that some intervention is needed now.
yeah biotin by itself would be like putting hyluronic acid on your skin but living off mcdonalds and wondering why it's poor quality. This article is more in favour of biotin supplementation, but stresses it needs lysine, fatty acids etc, hence it not being likely that pure biotin is the best option.

Was he bullying the new one because he found an addition to a settled herd stressful though?I’m wracking my brains trying to think but there’s nothing.
I purposely never change feed etc because he’s a funny one.
I did get another horse the end of August. He’s definitely not being bullied, if anything he bullied the new one.
It’s going to really irritate me trying to think what caused that.
Iron inhibits the uptake of copper so definitely avoid feeding high iron supplements like seaweed and/or balancer with added iron.Amongst other things sufficient copper and zinc is important for hooves
Was it the vet who saw him, not the farrier?Vet was ok actually, In a slightly “I’m humouring you” way but that’s fine!
Swan anti bac is brilliant I've used it for years.Vet was ok actually, In a slightly “I’m humouring you” way but that’s fine!
He has cut a good chunck out of both fronts and cleaned out the grotty stuff.
He also advised the Swan Anti bac hoof stuff. We ordered a few bottles off his supplier while
He was here and he’s told me to get a wire brush or just clean it all out regularly, apply the Swan stuff and see how we go.
thank you for the suggestion.Swan anti bac is brilliant I've used it for years.
I’ve tried a few times now. I love pro earth stuff but always ends up going into the ponies instead, along with his whole feedIf you can persuade the horse to eat it Progressive Earth's Pro Hoof Platinum is really good for hooves. I used it for a long time. Amongst other things sufficient copper and zinc is important for hooves.
You do need to get that seedy toe sorted though ASAP, opening up the area so that oxygen can get to it , then stand soaking in something like Clean trax.
Sorry! No farrier. Not sure how/why I wrote that. Was it the vet who saw him, not the farrier?
ETA Another tip for assessing as a lay person the extent of any seedy toe is to tap lightly on the hoof wall near to but not over the crack. If a significant area sounds hollow when tapped then it’s time to get serious.
No idea. He is a bit of a thug. MaybeWas he bullying the new one because he found an addition to a settled herd stressful though?
Swan antibac is fantastic stuff. Comes out of the nozzle fairly fast though and you only need a tiny bit.
I have a bottle of cleantrax lying around. It'll be out of date, but if you want to give it a go you're more than welcome to it.
