What’s the going price for a lab

Not that! It’s a pup from a line we have had 3 from. They are working bred.
No 1 was the best thing ever, I was young, has a baby. He grew up with her and was the best family dog ever.
No 2 was born damaged. Some will know his story, he was my absolute hero
No 3 we still have, he works a bit, was my oh’s but now 10 and a pet, works a bit but really lives on the sofa with me (work from home) and the terrible terriers.
No2 was my life. I adored him.
This pup I saw accidentally, they have two from a litter and one looks like my little hero, it’s his great nephew.
I’m not after a special swanky worker, however may work him a bit, I have the opportunity to if I want.
Our house is big, I’m home a lot, current dog number 3 leaves In the next months/year, he’s my daughters and she’s saving for her own place.
It was never the plan!

Very exciting! Look forward to seeing the photos <g>

ETA not sure re current prices - I have seen them on noticeboards for £600-800ish, but also know people who have paid £1000-£1500 during the last year or so, for ones which they particularly wanted eg from a certain breeder/line of breeding.

I woke up wondering what to do this morning and remembered “ahhhhh I’m probably getting a puppy” 😬
Talk about spur of the moment.
Cecil and spud both has such a massive build up! I chose both at about a week old so it was a really long kind wait.
I guess I need to dig out stuff, I will use a crate because if it’s anything like the other 3 it will be a great chewer and we have had the kitchen replaced. I don’t want to risk that!

I have no name!

Yes I know a few people locally who have struggled to sell litters.
They are asking £750, I figure vaccinations are about £100 of that.

I’ve just had a look at insurance, I need to phone though, can’t link another online and I already have a multi pet policy, the drop down list of breeds 😳 what on earth are they all?!
What is a Peke boo?!
Also why is Labrador and Labrador retriever separate? What’s the difference?

If parents are fully health tested that is a good price. It is strange but once pups get past the 8 weeks stage they are often cheaper, in a lot of cases I suspect it is because they are eating the breeders out of house and home ! Years ago I had a litter that was ready to go the week before Christmas, so I kept all 7 of them for a further 2 weeks (they were all sold). They were harder work during those 2 weeks than the previous 8, but I'm proud to say all of them were well on the way to being house trained when they left me.

We paid £850 each (I think) in Aug 2019, so pre Covid, for 8 week old emergency Labs, to keep the remaining 6 yr old Rott company, also working bred but some of the easiest pups ever. In your position, I would snap their hand off. I would say that you have underestimated the cost of vaccs/microchip but you could easily find that out by ringing a vet surgery to ask. Pets @Home type vets are usually the cheapest for vaccs as they are hoping to get you in for the rest of the dog's life.

I paid 500 for a pup that was 1800 because she was 16 weeks old. The fact the pup is 12 weeks will lower his price and they will want them gone.

He is fully vaccinated I was just taking that into account. Yes I expect I have under estimated.
Was just thinking that means the pup is about £600ish

I’m unsure about the health checks to be honest. Is it as important being that we have had 3, known their sisters, mum, dad personally for years and know other people who have dogs from them and Doug was the only problem in that 20+ yr period?

Well are you getting him today??? I think if you have had the same breeding and are happy it counts for a lot . Health testing is more important if it’s a breeder unknown to you, I’m no judge as mine are all mongrels so multi breeds , I have always been lucky and not had any hereditary problems, hopefully my current 3 will be the same

I don’t know 😫 see above- super dodgy tummy this morning, although it is sounding less vicious and I feel fine myself. Just a bit scared to leave the house.

Excitingly I showed the picture to me neighbour and she’s very interested in the other, she’s lost one of her two pointers several years ago now and has always had 2 apparently so that would be lovely 🤞 she’s currently in discussions with her husband.

This drove me mad, I've just renewed mine and among the ridiculous breeds listed, a sprointer was not one of them 😂
Last year we had an argument with the insurance because I had insured her as a pointer cross and unbeknownst to me the vet had registered her as a springer cross. I sent the insurance pictures of her and was like 'you decide'.

I hope your tummy feels better and you get your puppy.

Do you haggle for dogs? Is that a thing?
I’m so rubbish at this
I did!
But I was also prepared not to take the dog home
Got her down from 900 to 500
But I did stay firm at my 500 and we left the conversation. I was sure I wasn’t getting her but the next day he rang me back and agreed

I only haggled for Scout. And still paid the most I’ve ever paid for a dog. £1500. The rest I just go ‘oh ok, here it is’ 😄.
Well phone up and reserve the pup and pick it up when you can leave the loo. 😁.
At 12 weeks your life will be so much easier than at 8, as long as the breeder isn’t an idiot.
Health tests are a personal thing, I know plenty of people who aren’t bothered by them and they don’t seem to have had any more good or bad luck than anyone else.
