What do you wear to ride?

Aldi jods - either brown, black or navy (with thermal leggings underneath if it's really cold) with a T-shirt or polo shirt.

Then none/some/all of the following depending on how warm/cold it is: hoody; fleece jumper; rugby shirt; soft shell jacket; waterproof coat; gilet

If I'm going on the roads I have selection of hi-viz for every weather condition: a cycling top; a thin cycling jacket; a tabard; a hoody and a gilet.

For everyday I have Toggi Calgary boots.

I'm a glove wearer in all weathers too. Wearing gloves in summer is the only way I can show I have a tan!

Pretty much as below unless competing. Always long leather boots and gloves, breeches and polo shirt. I am a person of habit.

Was talking about this with a friend the other day. We agreed we missed the days when we were kids (a long time ago) when for a lesson you always wore canary jodhpurs (that was the only colour there was), short brown boots, shirt and tie and hacking jacket. And I had a brown velvet hat with elastic under the chin.
I am sure I looked much smarter than I do now - denim jodphurs, long boots, and long sleeved t-shirt or jumper. And being May body protector for another layer of warmth.

Maybe it's because I didn't experience it the first time around, so I haven't got the nostalgia but being used to sports wear I couldn't think of anything worse. Surely you just got a hot, sticky mess as nothing was breathable or practical?! Never mind the pinching of legs without any long socks, half chaps or long boots. I'm in pain just thinking about it ... :O

At least by wearing running/sports tops they are all breathable, wicking material for this time of year & thermal/waterproof in the winter.

Mind you, it could be me as I feel uncomfortable/restricted in regular breeches these days if I don't wear riding tights or riding leggings :D

Wow you have a lovely horse there!
Thank you but not my horse. I was riding him for owner to give him some basic training and get over the initial competition frights. We worked together for 7 months before handing over to his owner who is now really enjoying her horse.
Might be another one in the wings ;)

So - either breeches or skinny jeans. I have been known to ride in my pajamas.... mostly before work though! And then sometimes on a Friday night. Don't ask why.

I ALWAYS ride in proper boots and gaiters though. Always :)

I wear jods, random shirt/top, jumper, body warmer, boots and chaps and sometimes a body protector. I have been know just to put on whatevers lying around though! Also there are so many nice horses on this thread!

I wear whatever I'm wearing to muck out usually, with proper riding boots (Spanish type) and gloves. Unusually here I am with a riding helmet on, I don't wear one on my own horses.

If I ride something at RDA I'm usually in stretchy jeans, RDA group polo shirt and short boots. For my lessons I'm always in breeches, long boots and yard polo shirt (tucked in). If it's cold, I tend to add a base layer, then a polartec thin fleece, can't be doing with coats.

Oh and hat and gloves without fail.

I'm another who always wears gloves! String backed ones in very warm weather, sealskinz in winter leather in between.

Ariat terrains with gaiters for hacking, ariat long boots for lessons either for schooling.

Jodhs or breeches from Derby house, decathlon or aldi in grey/navy/brown/black normally.

Most of the year a long sleeved zip neck sports top. In hot weather a polo or short sleeve sport top.

Coats and gilets depending on the weather but mostly from outdoor brands rather than horsey ones as they are better quality. Most of the year two coats as our yard is freezing!

Always a sports bra and a helmet.

Hi viz gilet if hacking. Waterproof chaps/overtrousers in winter.

To start. Comfy bra, knickers and socks. Breatheable long sleeve top covered with breatheable t shirt. Dublin jods. Ariat grassmeres. Hat and back protector, gloves Hi viz. Thats everyday wear. Winter, i add a jacket.

Ariat short boots, 1/2 chaps, jods teeshirt/poloshirt sports bra. Sweatshirt and my musto yard coat in winter. Always hat and gloves.

I NEVER ride in jeans, they ruin the saddle. I make sure that nothing is to matchy (Event rider here) polo shirt, jods, long socks and long boots. Always gloves and hat and BP for jumping

I feel like a massive scruff for posting that pic now! There is a back story - the saddle fitter was out, and I hopped on board to see how himself felt about the new saddle!

I dont do matchy-ever, for anything.

denim breeches, MH short boots-sometimes my MH chaps with frills ;), sometimes very loud stripey socks, MH jacket, some sort of rugby/polo shirt/fleece and always gloves.

Harry Hall Chester jods (fit me perfectly, last forever), short boots, chaps, sports bra, top appropriate for the weather, and hat.

Unless I've popped down after work to just say hello to him (he's on full livery) because I absolutely definitely don't have time to ride, in which case I ride in my work clothes, plus hat.

Panache sports bra- best one I've ever bought. Usually a long sleeved loose top, black or red breeches. Long boots if I have a pocket in my sweater, short boots with half chaps if not (I stick my phone in the side). Gloves & hat always. In summer, a high vis vest. In winter, a high vis gillet (the reversible Aldi one- fabulous), or if it's horrendously cold my coat with the vest over it.

99% of the time, its black jods with short boots & chaps, and the AWESOME sweater that Lovecobs got me for SS (thank you :D )- I literally wear it to dead (and yep, wearing it now).

welll...... we didn't like to say anything, but... :wink3: :tongue3:

Blue or black breeches & long boots for me, every time. Can't stand riding in jeans or short boots. Top half is whatever is kind of clean and suitable for the weather, typically cheapo t shirts and a gilet or sweatshirt of some kind. And hat/gloves, without fail :D

I wear shorts or 3/4 trousers if it's hot, jeans or jods if it's cool, top appropriate to the weather with Hi viz for hacking and TREC. Boots are Dublins or Ariats, western boots or their fab short boots. A western saddle and a sheepskin pad means that shorts are very comfy, and increase stickability if my legs are a bit sweaty!

Jods and long boots always. Norally polo/tshirt and either jumper or gilet depending on the weather.Trying to get into the habit of gloves every time!

Normally Black jodhs/breeches, black jodh boots and chaps and on the top - for cold days a Lazy Jack's sweatshirt , which are brilliant as they are nice and warm and wind-proof and for sunny days a t-shirt or polo. I then put on a waterproof coat if raining, or if just cold I have a lovely hi-viz fleece which is great for hacking.

Hat, hairnet (a throwback from the 70's when I was learning to ride) and gloves.

Short boots and ariat chaps, and a pair of black breeches (all mine are black at the moment, not a conscious choice it just happened).

For schooling or a lesson, I will have a baselayer (short sleeved at the moment) and a fleece.

Hacking add a high viz on top..

On my head - a troxel hat for its breathability, or ventair skull if its a lesson.

In the winter add a coat and if its very cold I put on my ancient 30 year old black leather chaps.

Have never ridden in shorts or jeans - ouch....

As I'm suffering from a very chaffed bum at the moment (blame my new riding tights for being too slippy on the saddle :( ) I'm v interested in which pants are best to ride in.

I've resorted to heather moffett seat saver, but bum still agony yesterday....

Cowboy boots, ariat riding jeans and whatever top I fancy, I think my hat is a Charles owen and I've recently purchase a lightweight troxel. Gloves only in the dead of winter which is novel as if I ride English I always wear them.

Anything and everything.

At the moment, usually leggings or riding leggings from Aztec Diamond, some kind of tshirt and zipper combo or a long sleeved tshirt. Also Aldi/Decathlon jods on occasion. In winter I add fleeces, gilets and coats as needed. And country boots as atm I don't school properly, just hack or plod.

For lessons or proper schooling I try to stick to jodh boots and half chaps, and a vaguely matchy and clean jodhpur/long sleeve/gilet combo.

Hatwise, a Harry Hall for everyday use, a HS1 for serious jumping, and a CO Ayr8 for shows or dressage. A body protector when needed and when horses are feeling flighty. A hi viz tabard out hacking. Always gloves.

For comps, white or cream jodhs, jodhpur boots and leather gaiters, a white or cream shirt, a navy or tweed jacket.

My most outlandish riding outfit was a pair of tights and a dress pulled up to my waist, plus my leather jacket tied round my waist to protect my modesty...I always go to the yard straight from work and on this occasion had forgotten appropriate riding clothing!
