I've ridden a horse around 18hh.. I'm only 5ft 3, so it was big for me.

I would ride any size, but really am comfortable on things under 16hh.

I used to have a 17.1/17.2hh TB on loan - I am 5'2"

But then I owned a 16.3hh SF who was a complete gentleman, I always think that size doesnt matter, it is whether they are nice to ride which counts

have ridden a 19+ hander, he was a show horse and an unbelievable size... only horse i've ever seen who could just look over the top of internal stable partitions, without trying to stand on tiptoe. i had to ride him sidesaddle too, my first attempt, and was nagged into doing a jump too. a bit much actually!
just sold my 18hander, he too was a perfect gent. i love big horses, but i don't love trying to keep them sound... so i'd never buy one again.

I cant win this one, but i ride our shire who is 17.2 ish and i am 5ft 2ish and have to stand on the pick up to get on, try to plan rides without to many gates and look like somthing out of the thellwell books, ( so i'v been told)

I have only ridden a 17.2hh but I have had to fit a saddle to a 19.1 hh and because I am only 5'6" I had to stand on a bucket to be able to see the saddle let alone fit it, then the horse walked off with me chasing it round the field with the bucket because the owner was laughing so much (on board the horse) she couldn't stop him!

Biggest i have ever ridden is old YO's 17hh WB, strangely he did not feel too big, but i much prefer the 14-15hh height range personally

17.2hh was the biggest I've ridden, also sis in laws old loan horse 16.3hh he was a complete stunner I felt soooo safe on him even when he vertically reared when we were waiting for rosette 4th place in 2'9"....loved that horse loads!!

My girls 17'3 so I'd say she is the biggest I've ridden...rode a friends 16 hander the other week which felt titchy

Rode an 18hh young and unpredictable shire once. Was ok for the short time i was on him but wouldn't want to ride him frequently (especially hearing about how many people he had ditched horribly!) I'm only 5'1 so really 17hh would probably be my max. Lovely 17hh horsey on the yard where my shares are that i would love to ride, he looks so soft and lovely

Shires scare me a bit though, often rode a 17.1 and although he was an absolute plod it did scare me that if he wanted to do something i was a flea on his back and would not be able to make a smidge of difference

And it was pretty wide for my little leggies!

I feel very inadequate now as i have not rode an elephant : ( but someone did say my mare looks like a yak in the winter does that count. I have also only been on a 16.1hh but to be fair to my self more than 15hh is wasted on me!
