I thought if you today. We were at Chagford show and they had dog racing for a lure in the main ring. A man walked up and down the dogs shaking the lure at them (there were no fights, amazing testament to dogs in general!). When they started the race all the dogs chased the lure except the IT who ran to the bloke and it looks like bit him on the bum. 😄

I was waiting in line for a closing ceremony and someone started shaking a ball in front of the dogs in their country's team to get their attention for a picture.

This ended.....badly.

I had thought of that. The problem is all GSD's seem to want to protect me, a lot! It's not the puppy so much as the adults. It is wonderful to feel totally safe. However I would prefer he let the ambulance people in if needed and people do seem to be so worried about GSDs.
I saw someone with a tiny rescue breeding bitch and she was so lovely. Maybe a shelter would have similar.
A older friend of mine rehomed one bitch from rescue (carefully chosen for her and with a wonderful kind temperament) and when she lost her, she took on an older brood bitch from a breeding kennels who was exceptionally gentle and easygoing. Hopefully there might be something similar out there at the right time x

Oh god this doesn't surprise me at all 🙈 To corvuscorvax's point, I completely understand why some people think terriers are complete twats. Why do we love them?
Me and my friends often say similarly unflattering things about GSDs! Just what is it that makes us keep going back for more when they are often such complicated twats! 😂

I just re-watched Dog House, the episode with the 2 Yorkshire terrier sisters. I would have taken them in a flash! Everyone needs a scruffy terrier.

My OH would love a terrier.
I admit, with both OH and I having grown up with terriers, I have muted if in the future I give myself a full breakdown by adding one to the corgis. My friend has a wonderful Welsh, she’s delightful. I do miss having something scruffy to waste my life staring at the arse of as it sods off down a hole.

It is my, slightly unhinged, ambition to have English, Welsh and Irish terriers as a sort of multicoloured, scruffy, anarchical pack. The thing holding me back would be the ensuing divorce proceedings and requests to social services for adoption....

I am interested to hear more about your experience of the Welsh terrier temperament...I've only met one and she was quite aloof.

There was a miniature bull terrier, about 6 months old, at the show yesterday. He was absolutely gorgeous. I suspect being bred for size hasn’t done thrm many health favours but he was just perfection in a tiger striped, Roman nosed package.

I met one very similar only 2 days ago but he was going to be returned to the breeder by his owner. :( I thought he was utterly delightful but apparantly not suited to his older owner. I would have taken him home myself...

It was a Hungarian bred rescue in Holland… as a yard dog?!? But hilarious. Wider than she was talk but show pony trot. They had a full size one too and he was ok but they’re a very stubborn and pretty dense breed ime.
I had an EBT X Blue heeler in Oz. She was gorgeous but so infuriating! She used to hang off the curtain rail until it fell off the wall, then kill the curtains.

Why not the full set, and add a Scottish one....

Yes, I realised there was an omission there lol!! There are a number of Scottish terriers, though I would start with a classic Scottie I think and I should probably add in some regional English ones: Manchester, Norfolk and Staffordshire too. Could be a bit of a collection!

Omg. I forgot about bull terriers. I do like them when they come in a perfect Roman nosed package.

Sometimes I think that it may be because they're so ugly it's endearing.

I have a weak spot for Roman nosed horses too though 🤔

I used to actually feel somewhat unnerved as 3 of the huge things would come bounding toward you in the garden, with me knowing full well that they saw no reason to slow down until the last minute, by which time the forces of physics had overtaken any canine calculations about distance, speed and things in the way.

I love this palo.

When the big girl comes charging back to me I have to force myself not to jump out the way. Thankfully she manages to brake just in the nick of time :)

One of our Irish Wolfhounds knocked me out by running into me full tilt and knocking heads - I was bending over looking at something in the grass and he came over to see what was so interesting. He was fine; I was out cold.

My uncle's Irish water spaniel at about 4 months old ran into my face while I was bending over too. I bled, a lot. She was grand. I still want an IWS 😂

No breed - each dog is an individual, it’s not the breed that makes them what they are.

If anyone had told me I’d end up with 3 terriers I’d have laughed at them - as it is, every time the old boy wakes me at 3am (which yes is most days!) I question my decision 🤣🤣
