This might sound really stupid, but here goes...!

So in the winter I wear wellies, obviously protects my feet. But in the summer my feet get so hot its painful, I get blisters, can't walk. My trainers are really painful so I dont wear them and atm I'm just wearing flipflops! Which is obviously really stupid (so spare me the lecture!).

SO, what do you wear to keep your feet cool but your tootsies safe?!

xxxx

Well I hear Dubarry decks but they wouldn exactly keep your feet safe. have always worn them in the summer, even when riding out or woking with stallion and racehorses.
At work now, i still tend to wear them but also wear Ariat devon pros - though they do get a bit warm.

I just wear slip on trainers :)

Although I have bought a lovely pair of ariat tellurides, hoping my feet wont get too hot in them for summer poo-picking and riding :)

(yes I will be wearing them with shorts and lovely pastey white legs too :))

Only prob with those style is that they start at size 7 (which equates to a size 6) so you tiny footed peeps have no chance.

Always wear my hiking boots or steel toe capped jod boots. Seen to many horrible things with unproctected feet and horses, that I would rather have very hot but safe feet - you only have one pair!!

Always wellies all year round - based on seeing the state of someone's foot after a 17hh mare stood on her accidentally when getting her in when she was wearing summer sandals (the person...not the horse :D) and yes I know rubber wellies aren't going to protect you that much either...

i just wear my jodphur boots and gaiters all year round, i cant wear wellies as my ankles are buggered and they hurt to get them off and i'd never wear trainers unless just running up to bring in or something but then i'd still probs not do it lol

I have a pair of Joules muckers that you can take the thermal lining out of so in the winter my feet are toasty and in the summer...well they are still toasty but more comfortable.

They also do what are called Wellibobs which are funky coloured half wellies.

I also have a pair of Ariat shoes that are super comfy but they were a bit pricey. Before my Ariats i had the Mountain Horse Loafer shoe.

Please stop wearing flip flops...I cringed as soon as i read your message. It's not only bad for your toes if you get walked on but if you had to run or move quickly then flip flops can slip or your foot come out of them.

You could always try new insoles in your trainers, they are only cheap but add a bit more of a cushion and some of them have charcoal in which absorbs smells and moisture?

i wear wellies all winter and jodh boots in summer. on the odd occassion ive worn trainers, my feet feel so naked and vulnerable. i had my foot crushed yrs ago and a toe broken at college. both occassions i was wearing riding boots, not steel toe jst normal. i dread to think what cud happen in flip flops etc. ouchy ouch!

Wow, I leave you lot for 5 mins lol....

Hm, I have a pair of the Joules wellibobs and they get soooo warm - and they're the ones without the fleece from last year when the fleecy lining didnt exist! Crocs are fine but I dont think they'd do my heels any good, and the big lad likes kicking the backs of my heels!!!

Will have a look at all suggestions! I think trainers are better than flipflops though cos ok you'd still get crushed but at least you wouldnt get sliced!

I know flipflops are stupid for everyone dying to say it ;) lol.

Right, night all, keep discussing for my poor toes sake! Haha.

I have started wearing trainers to walk my youngster out in hand but for all other groundwork I have on my steel toe mountain horse but they are soooo hot and sweaty! I have been told that Ariat boots are good for not getting too hot.

Cheap leather joddy boots all year round. I feel vulnerable in trainers. The thought of flipflops actually churns my stomach. I still have a blue toenail from the start of december when an unshod arab stood on my foot with a pair of tights, 2 pairs of socks and thick joddy boots on. It broke the skin too. It wasn't even bad, just a bit of a stand and twist during a silly moment. In flipflops, jeeze i would have a very smooshed foot, probably quite broken and shredded. And with shod horses.... *shudder* pleaseplease don't, or i won't be able to sleep at night!

Joddy boots and shorts are also a major fashion statement :D lol

I, stupidly wear crocs, sandals, flip flops etc when i'm not riding, but just around them, and the way I look at it, if i'm silly enough to get stood on, then I have nobody to blame but myself, but like you, as much as i love my ariats(lifetime investment, I hope!!), they make me sweat too much during the summer, but GOD are they good in the winter to keep the toes warm!!
I'm back wearing my broken across the ball of the foot toggi jodphur boots when riding, cant deall with long boots in nice weather!!!!
