I'm thinking of putting my Irish mare in foal again in 2010 but it's hard for me to find the right stally for her.

She's 18, but had 3 foals before with no problems except they have all been large foals. She's only 16.1hh herself but for this reason I wouldn't use a stallion larger than 16.1hh.

She's by Diamond Rock (ID) out of a TB mare by Trombone. Jumped to 1.30m level in short career, very bold and honest but can be sharp, although I don't mind this.

Ideally I'd like to stick to TB or ISH or perhaps SF. She had a beautiful foal by Alme Des Nids in 2008 but now she is older I'd like something with less bone.

So.....! Definitely 16.1hh or under, a bit more quality but defintely something that produces jumping stock. Doesn't have to be a pure SJ as she has enough jump for anyone. Only easy thing is budget, I have money for the right stallion.

Here's some pics to show her conformation, she's pretty good but her hocks are a little 'Irish':

11.5 months pregnant here!

And when she was fit:

Have you considered French Buffet? http://www.kylemorestud.com/stallions_detail.php?image_id=2

I think the stud is working on getting approval to export semen to the UK next year. I saw him in person last month, and really liked him, he's obviously a great favourite of the grooms. Don't think he's a great match for my little mare, though.. I think he might be 16.2, so maybe too tall for you!

Mill Law is nice but all the stock I have seen by him have been IMO, whilst talented, are on the slightly chunkier side.

What about Future Illusion??? He is 16.1 and with the trak x Tb influence you shoudl get a lot of refinement.

Yes, actually Future Illusion would be a good one - I saw him eventing this season and he is very refined and looks a very blood type.

Try Sharon Baldwins Cashpoint at Meadow Stud - stunning! He's on a video on You Tube :-) Have used him on my old Grade A mare. She's Irish and 17.0hh....!

There is quiet a varied selection of stallions mentioned, so can I ask are these what would suit this mare, or what people like? Just curious because not sure all the stallions mentioned would actual improve on the mare.

Watermill Swatch stands with French Buffet at Kylemore Stud. I hear they were working on getting EU export approval for next year, so if interested in either of them, I would contact the stud to see what their plans are for 2010 availability to UK breeders. He is also taller than French Buffet, so might need to stretch the height requirement a bit.

What about the Grade A stallion, Cato Z?
He's around 16 hands and very compact.
Not sure but think it might be just chilled/frozen semen?

How about these:?
http://www.endhousestud.co.uk/stallions/SirensMissile/index.htm I knew his father for a short period and have seen a siren colt foal son who had a lovely temperament (1/2 brother to this stallion).

I love Java tiger so would suggest his son One more Tiger: http://www.greatbrockhamhurststud.co.uk/onemoretiger.htm
But he is bigger than you wanted..

Primitive proposal was suggested who is nice but is by primitive rising who is known to be a querky line, although I have no experience of PP himself, with your mare being sharp already it may be too sharp a line to mix??

This boy might be worth a look? I like Welton crackerjack and Bazaars texas, and could add a little colour!!?

I like Future illusion as others have said, but it's going out of the breeds you wanted to use, this guy is registered with selle francais which you mention, I think he'll definately add refinement: http://www.stallionsonline.co.uk/stallion_22540.html but again he is little bigger!!

Someone else mentioned Cashpoint, who stands at Meadow Stud, I love this stallion so Definately take a look at him, he is breath taking! But is different breeding to what you wanted and is bigger! http://www.meadowstud.com/cash_point_54.html

I very munch like Rainbow View at Louella Stud, very handsome and plenty of quality, when we use a pure TB am sure he will be the one.

I would likely go for more TB blood, not that this would gaurantee a smaller foal. Personally i like the look of Rainbow View and One more Tger, very nice examples of TB's.

i don't think One More Tiger throws particularly big foals so i wouldn't discount him.
my OMT mare is only about 15.3hh, same size as her dam, beautfully proportioned with plenty of scope over her fences.
she was quite a little foal actually- we initially thought she'd make a nice racing pony as we were convinced she would only end up 14.2hh!

i also have a Primitive Proposal 3yro and whilst he is lovely he is also huge- 17.1hh already! and i have seen a lot of PP stock which are also pretty big.
his foals are all quite big too.

I too have seen a lot of big PP stock and also, whilst I know he has thrown some awesome stock and he himself seems to have mellowed with age, he did stop eventing due to his temperament. I also knew his sister who likewise was retired young, even though incredibly talented, due to poor temp. His sire was also gelded because of this. None of this would stop me using him as his progeny on the ground are irrefutable as well as Future Sports Horses having another sibling of his who is absolutely lovely, as well as they themselves having many related stock. However I would make 100% sure that the mare had a superb temperament.

Ooops can't believe I made that mistake!!! I meant the Outlaw was gelded......who was sire of PP's siblings.....not PP..didn't re-read what I wrote....what I should have said was that the 2 PP maternal siblings (didn't have any full sibs that I know of), that I knew were also very sharp and so stopped competing and THEIR sire, The Outlaw was gelded as well due to temp probs. PP also had a sharp temp in his youth and so some of this must have come through the dam line, especially as Future Sports Horses have a SUPERB broodmare who is the the dam of Future Illusion, who is by The Outlaw and she is lovely and so are her babies and so some of the sharpness in PP and his siblings must be from the dam line. PP has indeed chilled out as he has got older and his progeny are lovely and so I just meant to say that I would just be careful to use mares with very good temps on him.
