What supplements do you feed your horse?

Red is currently on equilibra with her handful of alpha a and i also use feedmarks fly formula (garlic, spearmint, other mint and a load of other herbs, but cant remember what off the top of my head!) BUT I dont like the equilibra as much as blue chip (bought equilibra this time cos its £10 a bag cheaper!) her skin isnt as good now. To be fair, she was on the feedmark skin suppliment (equidermis?) as well cos shes prone to mud fever and rainscald at random times, so wether its the stopping that which has made her not look so good rather than the equilibra I couldnt really say.

Am changing her again at the end of this bag though - having heard such good things about the codlivine range, Ive just bought a tub of the super codlivine (the normal one!). When she gets nearer foaling she will go on either suregrow or back on blue chip - it depends what the stud she goes to foal down at is feeding. When the weather starts to turn she will go back on think mud (providing its ok for broodmares, but Im pretty sure it is,just havent checked!) of all the suppliments I have ever given her - thats the one that I am most careful not to run out of - its brilliant stuff !!!

They also have a saracen paddock lick - but they only get licks occasionally so dont tend to count them !!

Too many!

Natural Horse Supplies "Herbal Shine" (blend of brewers yeast, seaweed, micronised linseed, spearmint)
Magnesium
Yea-Sacc
Global Herbs Laminitis Prone

Also added Garlic at the moment as he's temporarily in a field by a river and being attacked by flies, only temporary though he'll come off it as soon as he's back in his usual paddock.

The Laminitis Prone will stop in winter, and the magnesium will be halved, but I will add a respiratory supplement.

Fed in a couple of handfuls of Hi Fi Molasses Free.

Edited to add: Just realised he also has a Himalayan salt lick in the stable.

Mine gets:
Equine america Glucosamine (just started)
Lincoln garlic powder (for flies)
Maxavita Maxabiotic

He also has a respiratory horslyx, as he sometimes has a dirty nose, and prone to nosebleeds. These work a treat and he loves it!

Mine get Coligone and MultiVitPRO as standard - Depending upon what issues the horses have would depend upon which other products would be used but at the moment it's just those two supplements
Kate x

How could I have forgotton Coligone :) B was on it for a winter after failing to thrive as a 5 years old - it did wonders for him - his weight bloomed - rather too well I hasten to add ;) From then on he had a shot of the liquid before competition which solved the "excited tummy" syndrome that use to result in a rather disgusting backend and back legs.

In my feedroom (for 5 horses currently), I have:

Yeast
Vit & Min supplement
Boswellia Serrata
ProKalm
Global Herbs Airways Plus

Some only get the vits and mins, others get quite a few based on their needs. I don't feed anything 'just because' - if they need it, they get it, but that's it.

Mines is getting Garlic to help with flies
and Biotin to keep his feet healthy

Currently trying to find out whether to give him omega oil or cod liver oil just which ever has the best reviews......

I am so glad to see that I'm not the only one feeding loads of supplements!
My 21 year old gelding gets his feed with Aviform Suppleaze Gold and cod liver oil for his joints.

My 9 year old mare who has bone spavin (although she has come suspciously sound for no apparent reason) has dried comfrey, Aviform Suppleaze Gold, linseed and Devil's Claw.

At the moment i feed my 27yo retired tbxhan (auld bird ) brewers yeast, cortiflex, magnesium, salt and equivite.
My 13 yo retired hanovarian equivite, salt and glucosamine, brewers yeast
My 7yo tb cosequin, salt, coligone and magnesium, the rest are either in their chaff or they dont need it

None, he has a mineral/salt lick in his stable but he is out on grass at the moment and only goes in there to be fed after work sometimes. He is a connie and is a good dooer, the only reason he gets any hard feed is to give him some more energy when he is being ridden.

In the past I've used the following:

NAF Superflex
Brewers Yeast
Garlic
Mag Ox
Seaweed
Linseed
NAF Pink Powder
Equivite Body Builder
Horse First Relax Me

Not feeding anything at the moment!

Young WB with SI dysfunction gets:-
Linseed/brewers yeast/seaweed/yea sac
MSM human grade
Bromaline human grade
Devils Claw
Magnesium
Feedmark Muscle build supplement

Lami pony gets Rosehip and I put him on Happy Tum charcoal to detox every 3 months for a few weeks

Older mare gets Feedmark joint supplement

They all have a Red Rock mineral lick in field and a 'herb meadow'.

Nothing! Unless your horse has a problem (ie poor hooves = biotin, stiff = joint supplement) I just think most of them are totally unecessary.

My girl gets a token gesture handful of chaff when she comes in and there is a general multi vit lick in the field for them all to share. She doesn't have much of it. I'm a believer that if they needed a vit/min they would take it if on offer, rather than forcing it down them in feeds.

Nothing...

Well they have two different mineral licks that get regular abuse but Pink gets hard feed of molassed chaff, D&H build up (just to put a bit of weight back on her, which is working a treat so we'll stop that as soon as shes got all the condition i want back on her and swap to high fibre cubes) and pasture mix which has everything she needs really, her feet are great, her poos are firm and shes got scrubby grazing though recently ive been chucking in some haylage for a bit of interest.

Its tempting to read all the supplements and convince yourself she needs them, but she doesnt, if she ever did or i thought they would help with an issue then its a different story.

sweet FA, very cheap and available all year round:D;) they're all out 24/7 and in very light work, happy, healthy and barefoot:)
the only one i have considered giving anything to is the 4 yr old as he is a spooky monkey and his feet aren't as good as the others but i'm still trying to decipher which will be the best thing to go for:confused:

Apple Cider Vinegar. Will add Procell in the winter months. I only give additives as he is now 20 years old. He also has access to Himalayan Salt which he uses, so much better than traditional salt blocks.
