Whats price did you pay for your horses?

Everytime I "need" a horse, and we could have a interesting discussion of the use of need in that sentance , my OH says don't spend more than 30k without asking me and I come back yes a project that crossed my path.

Now I feel really cheated! When I said too much I didn't realise how much too much until I saw this.:( Where did you find these animals at those prices?

10 year old Haflinger Gelding, been passed from pillar to post for the last 4 years as he was a swine to catch. Paid £750 for him. Had him 3 months and he is an absolute gem! Perfect to hack, fun to jump, comes to call! My dream pony :) x

My Irish cob , bombproof in heavy traffic due to hacking horse , but needing more schooling paid was advertised £2500 but I paid £2300.00
Friesian (1) young 2 yr done nothing , imported by myself from holland 1500.00
Friesian (2) bred myself cost of £1200 stud fee not inc vet fees etc
Others I brought in past
Friesian (3) 6yr , I brought from a dealer in Essex ,underweight and not done nothing paid £1500
Shire gelding 15 yr , rescued underweight , was used very lightly , cut long story short ,husband brought him for wife ,they slit up ,she took it out on horses , he took them back and sold on he wanted 2500 I refused because of the state he was in I got him for 1500 still expensive but he was stunning lad ,
My welsh mare brought as a 6 month foal ,done nothing ,paid £600

I paid £1500 for a 2 year old Palomino Gelding with decent breeding. Hoping to do dressage on him. That included delievery as well. I think he was a bargain as a few people have said he is easily worth double to what I paid :) Hopefullly he will become my horse of a life time.

Big horse was a gift :)

Sec D, the owner needed to get rid of him asap due to losing grazing so I paid off the livery arrears of £50 and took him off her hands.

I've never paid more than £1000 for a horse, apart from one who I blew the budget at 3k for as a 4yo, but he then went on to compete successfully at CCI** so I let him off being expensive :D

:)

£7000 for Irish sports horse, who I sold on and is now 2* and going well,
2000 for sons bomb proof tb mare, will never sell her.
3000. For big boy who does everything from pc to xc and driving.

With ish I had that I love him feeling, and it over ruled sensible head!!!

one cost me £400 the other £210. Both partbred welsh. one is TBxCnnie xwelsh sec D
bought as weanl9ngs at Brightwells sales. Both now 2 yr olds.

Gingermenace - 15hh TB x Welsh - £315 in 1996

Black pony - 14.1hh NF -£120 in 2003

Nevthesupershetland - 10hh county level show Shetland, £600 (I only paid half)

Gingermenace & black ponys foals £400 stud fee each (a lot more of added to failed AI attempts....)

So I paid £1535 all together :D if my adding is right :D

Ps both adult horses compete etc :)

Of the five I have ,two I got for free (an Arab mare ( aged 9 now 22) and a New Forest pony ( aged 12 now 24)when they were given to me) one I paid £400 for, again an Arab mare (aged 9 when I bought her now 18) A New Forest gelding £400 (10 when I bought him now 28) . My most expensive is my Arab gelding , I bought him as a yearling for £1000 ,15 years ago.

My friend who keeps her two horses on my yard paid £900 and £2,500 respectfully

I don't believe in spending a lot of money on a horse . I would prefer to buy young or get a project.

I recently bought my 8 year, gypsy vanner gelding for £1200 (they originally wanted £2000 for him,I said nope) and is as quiet as a mouse.

Much too much - I bought the winter before all the prices crashed nearly 5 years ago! Saying that, he turned out to be a little star competing at everything and anything with my daughter but as I bought him for a hack for me, I did pay too much at the time.

But as an old hand once said to me when I tried to barter for a been there done it pony, what price your child's safety! I coughed up.

Current ex racer who is looking to be promising for eventing next year was 420 hammer price at ascot - most lovely boy I have ever had at 6yo, the farrier, vet, chiro and my instructor have all said how lovely he is and how the hell did I get him so cheap!

TB yearling I bought at 8months for 120 - she's out of a group 1 race winner from godolphin but is a little bit of a runt :)

Welsh sec A broken to ride and drive 11yo £150

My Irish cob that my parents got me as a teenager cost 3250, but he did teach me so much - currently out on loan doing little ODEs and fun stuff :)

I love my cheapies but they always feel like a gamble!

450 for the little one who broke his rug!

Im so impressed with everyones buys. I was looking today at getting my OH a horse to hack along with me & my crazy mare. Figured I would try and get one with a bit of experience so I can xc etc. maybe in future. but seemed ill be forking out well over £4k.. clearly not looking hard enough ;)

Happy to hear with a good hunt there’s cheaper options!

TT - was it you that had your coloured stolen a few months ago? No news? Have you bought this one to 'replace'? (I don't mean replace - you know what I mean)

Llanybydder mainly, a couple ive bought privately though. It really is the luck of the draw though as you dont know what your getting till you get it home, weve mostly been lucky with ours....however this little mare we paid £100 for...

She was doped we think at the mart as she was letting us fuss her etc.....when we got her home, she was completely wild & you couldnt get near her. Lovely to look at but thats where it stops & ends.

£2600 for Taz my ISH gelding as a 3 year old - unbroken barely handled but decent breeding and a huge jump
xcinggg.jpg

£5000 for Rio the andalusian stallion (including shipping from spain) 8 weeks ago at 8 years old :) was used in parades occationally, knows all the movements but is a bit like an unexploded bomb! lovely temperment though and the kindest eye

£350 for Missy the tb x trotter at 2 years old - nothing at all really she had been handled but didnt have any manners and could be a witch but she was pretty and i needed a companion and she came up and she was cheap :o

£1200 for my beautiful horse of a lifetime who can never be replaced, who was the best and worse horse at the same time....only had her 2 years :(

£500 for my brat of a coloured pony.... (who is actually quite lovely)! bred for the show ring and will only ever see the dressage ring :D

I paid 5K for Emil, a slightly green well bred 7yr old with a perfect temperament. He is proving to be a star so far. He is the sort nearly everyone is after so I am happy with the price I paid

Micah the one in my sig I paid £2300 for he would have been a mega bargain had he not broken 12 months later.

Funny how when anyone asks how much for this:_ prices are incredibly higher than what most people have paid

17.1hh, 15 yr old Shire/TB cross. 226 BD points, has been placed at PSG/Inter 1, and, more importantly, is an absolute darling...£1

He has very knackered hind legs though!

£2500 for a black 15.2 Shire x TB mare... 16 years old.

She was broken as a 4YO to be a SJ or Eventer, owner lost interest in her as a 6YO turned her away for a few years (she became a varment wouldn't let people near her!) then she was a thrown back in to a riding school. Where numerous people tried to loan her but basically she was hacked and lightly schooled by wanna be horse whispers (She attempted to kill them all and injured quite a few of them!)

I loaned her at 14 (MASSIVELY over horsed myself). I learnt the hard way that she meant business when she through her weight about. She's still unpredictable and strong willed even after all these years!!

I recently bought her for £2500 after 7 years loaning.. Owner had me over a barrell and told me she'd put her in foal or back in to the riding school if I gave her back. (I had no option but to buy or part with her due to needing to move yards)

So muggins here coughed up the ridiculous amount for the psychotic, mardy, aggressive, stubborn, cowbag... BEST decision I ever made!!!! :D:D
