Whats price did you pay for your horses?

I paid £4000 for a 2 1/2 yo quarter horse gelding that had been lightly started.

I recently bought a 3yo Quarter horse with good breeding for £1000 but he was worth a bit more, he was untouched and I have him under saddle now and he is awesome, best £1000 ever spent!

£500 for this little monster as a 2 yo. (Welsh A)

£5K for my beautiful 15.3 maxi cob girlie at 6yo.

I paid £4,500 for my black id cross gelding 7yr old.

He is extremly easy to handle with good maners, no vices. Ace hack, hunted in ireland, v good cross country. Had spent 3 months in a riding school as their 'hacker and cross country schooling horse'. Generally, v quiet. Altho, quite green in the schooling department but i have discovered he has a natural dressage talent!

He was worth every penny as he's taken a competant but nervous novice dressage, showjumping and cross country schooling this year!

In 2004 - 8 yr old Shire x cob - £1500 (had his passport said he actual heigh of 15.1hh he would have been a fair bit more)
In 2010 - 2 yr old welsh sec a - £120
In 2010 - 8yr old Shetland - £500

TT - was it you that had your coloured stolen a few months ago? No news? Have you bought this one to 'replace'? (I don't mean replace - you know what I mean)

Hi Yes it was me who had Flash stolen and now I have another coloured, approx 15.1/15.2 hh heavier build and hairier, guess what: Yep he has same name lol.
I call him knobster tho lol

£3,500 six months ago for a 10 year old 16.2 Friesian who's done nothing. He's a tool to hack alone but perfect to hack in company. Green in the school but eager to please. I'm hoping to do some pleasure rides next year if I sort transport.

I paid 2500 for my ID X. He was 3.5 years old and had been backed and turned away. He is out of an ID mare by a Grade A Showjumper.

Paid 2000 for my Clydesdale. Was a recentley backed 6 year old at the time.

Paid 850 for my 2 year old coloured ISH X WB.

Paid nothing for my two 6 month old WB X Cob foals.

Getting an 18 month Sec D filly this weekend for 50..!!!

£2,100 for my Highland x TB 14.2hh, 10 year old gelding, 11 years ago. Worth every penny, super safe hack in all traffic but no slug. Done low level dressage, rarely came home without a rosette, never stopped at a jump which considering I usually shut my eyes having pointed him at said jump is pretty amazing! Loved his pleasure rides, me not so much as he always wanted to go faster than I did, and wanted to be in front of everyone else!

generally, too much!
I have paid 6 figure sums for stallions, and picked up a couple of mares for less than $100, so I think it evens out (sort of. let's tell the OH that anyway...)

14.2 Irish Sports Pony x TB, 5 YO. Sensible confidence giver, green, but did a bit of everything - £2500 inc. Delivery and a manky headcollar lol

I paid £150 stud fees for my Welsh Sect D X TB and she has had problems since the age of 5, she is now 19 and I dread to think what I have spent on her in vets fees and farrier over the years but I wouldn't part with her for anything. Certainly wouldn't pass her onto someone else to deal with. Could have bought an exceptional horse for what she has cost me!:)

I paid £1,200 for Fig. Which included £100 livery (until I had a stable ready).

He was then a 7yo ex racer, little over 2 months off the track.

This is him 11 months later.

They all cost me...£0.

All were varying forms of very very grateful presents [Dad got me Cassie, Bustie off a friend, etc]!

Fleeced!! £1500 for a 13.2hh 4yo pacer : nappy RS pony, no decent paces but with the sweetest nature who was either going to be sold to a family (totally unsuitable for him) or sent to market because he wasn't "earning his keep". Told the ex OH I paid £900 and the parents £600 which were much nearer the mark :D.

He made 14.1, perfect for my 5' and half an inch height, has blossomed into a cheeky, adorable chap, tries his little heart out. Life has got a bit in the way so 6 years down the line his canter still needs a lot of work unless there is a jump in front of him! He can work in lovely self carriage in trot, LOVES to jump and will eagerly and effortlessly take on BE 90 fences if mum is committed. He has seen me through so much he is now absolutely priceless to me - he'd probably make a cracking confident young rider's pony as I'm not sure I will ever do him justice....but no way will anyone else ever get their hands on him! And it was the best £1500 I ever have, and probably ever will spend.

£4K for a 10-year old maxi cob - he'd been there, done that, got the t-shirt. That was 12 years ago and he is still going strong and was worth every single penny!! I don't know how I will ever find another to fill his shoes.

I paid £1k for tb ex racer, he had been bought by the person I got him from as owner who fit him from racing yard was going to have him pts as he was dangerous. He was a skinny tb who had never jumped didn't know a proper outline and very backwards when I got him nearly two years ago. He is now in a wide fitting saddle so not skinny anymore, that has points at bd novice, aiming for elementary next year, won his 1st sj comp, absolute horse of a lifetime that is generally perfect, but it has taken a lot of food, work and a sticky bum ;). Can still be quirky but it would be boring otherwise. Will never sell him :)

MyYearling I bought this summer as a colt, he coloured almost matching markings on both sides, very well bred wbx, and gelded, really starting to bond with him. I paid £750 for him, hopefully to take as far as poss in dressage and maybe low level eventing :)

£480 for 7yr old 15.3 tb mare by Anshan bred by John fowler,a little neglected neurotic when bought but slowly getting there but hey no rush.hope to do a little of everything together.

My current horseys:
My mare was £850 as a 17 year old, apparent quiet school mistress, little did we know... Had her 10 years next year and shes taught me so much!

£1200 for my kwpn as a 3yo, hes got a capped hock so was cheap should of been 4k :)

Paid £3k 10 years ago and was completely ripped off at the time. However he turned into a superstar pony and I was offered £17.5k last year.

Wouldn't sell him for anything, has grown on me a bit like a wart ;-)

We've just paid 1k for Mac, 16.3/17hh ID x, 16yo, has hunted and been professionally bombproofed in the past. A complete plod and a gentleman in the stable - perfect for first time horse owners!

Old owners paid nearly 4k for him 6 years ago - they bought him from the professional bombproofing place, and apparently he was in a bit of a state when he arrived :(

I paid £3000 (although spent that in vets bills too- so techincally £6000 ;) for my 16.1 cob x tb 14 year old mare who had competed with jennete breakwell up to novice (I think) level eventing (I haven't a clue about eventing- more of a dressage lass). Amazing mare who was very talented at dressage- she would have been worth hell of a lot more at a younger age. Sadly after only a year together she was PTS due to aload of feet problems and a nuerological problem. She taught me so much and took me through the dressage levels- don't regret a penny- the memories and knowledge she has given me is priceless, I miss her alot!

My beautiful boy was 1200 as a weanling. Totally worth it, his temprament is wonderful and is very trainable. Despite our crappy year which I believe may have stunted his growth I have a beautiful 14.1 and a half pony whom is perfect!!!!

£5250 with new tack and an immense wardrobe of rugs. I haven't regretted a day, and yes, some people may say that I don't do much with her, but she is my baby and I love every minute of being her mum! She is good genuine girl and I never thought I would get a bond like I had with my old boy, but I am so so close!:)

My cob was a consulation prize, I'd put a deposit on a stunning black and white filly foal,(€1500 5 yrs ago), when I came back to collect her after weaning, she was sold. The elderly man in question had someone else give him 2k upfront, so off she went, he gave me back my deposit and gave me another foal for free. (Now, god love my spirit, he was the ugliest foal going). Thankfully he really grew into himself, and has the best nature ever. In hindsight, I'm delighted that I ended up with him. x
My daughters pony cost me €300 a few mths ago. He's 17, so been there, done that, but he's turned out to be priceless in the fact that you can safely send her off on a sponsored ride/hunt knowing he'll look after her.
Velvet, my sons pony - only on loan, so didnt cost anything.
Personally, I'd pay any money for the right horse for me, and whats good for one person isnt for someone else. I know the horse I'd be buying, would be worthless to the compeditive jumpers/compeditiors, as all I'd be looking for is a quiet all-rounder, happy hacker that would take me around an 80cm sj course.
Horses for courses, and prices accordanily. xx
