I always leave it as long as possible - and will rug up and leave out over night as much as I can - its simpler for me and the horses seem to prefer it.
But ultimately it does depend on the weather - if it stays mainly dryish they can be out til December - but if it comes in wet and horrid they will be in and tucked up at night x
im hoping to leave my boy out untill the first of november as he was in from the first of september last year as i took him to college biggest mistake ive ever made with him will depend how long he will last once he has been clipped as we do alot over the winter so leaving him unclipped isnt an option
On our yard the horses have to come in for nights from around the 1st November, but depending on the weather some owners choose to bring them in before then.
I will probably swap round to have her in at night in the next week or so. (Currently in during the day). That way she can get some sunshine while there still is some (fingers crossed!
Skye is out at night in through the day all summer ( as otherwise she gets too fat!) Generally sometime in Sept ( when she starts to get really hairy and scruffy looking) i put her out 24/7 for a few weeks and she then comes in again gets clipped and comes in overnight the weekend before bonfire night.
I leave all my liveries and my own horses out till end of October at the earliest - and later if it is dry. They don;t start coming in at night until they move to the winter grazing so fingers crossed we have a good autumn. We still have so much grass they are fine for a long time still
Probably mid to late september, have started putting light rugs on for in the evening tonight.. i really dread it as costs just go sky high with extra hard feed, bedding, help and haylage etc etc.. oh as well as all that pesky mucking out!!
Pony is already in at night and horse goes into the pen - she won't go into the stable until YO gets her horses in or she'd be in the top yard on her own.
When the clocks go back I'll change them over. Currently out all the time in the summer paddocks, but will start keeping them in during the day from Tuesday as we'll change fields.
Mine came in due to suspect leg injury last week. He is 100% fine and was after 1 day however he now stomps into his stable at night and refuses to come out again till the morning! I have (to fellow liveries amusement) tried leaving stable door open, calling to him and shaking a food bucket. His expression 'human its getting cold out there at nights, you may be mad Im not!!!'
It is very cold and can be very wet up here (in the pennines) and he is used to the more temperate midlands. Oh hes a welsh cob that well known tender hot breed!!!
