Who uses turnout rugs in the stable?

I always leave turnout rugs on in the stable and have never had any problems most of them are Weatherbeeta rugs, I don't have anywhere to dry rugs so just leave them on but make sure I readjust them everyday. Horses have never had any rubbed hair or problems.
 
I do too, but I prefer the ones like Horseware and Premiere Equine with the fillet strap rather than the crossed leg straps, as the latter look uncomfortable for the horse to lie down in. Though I guess if they were outside it would be the same!
 
Used to all the time when Toff was stabled.she wore a masta turn out. Always loved friday and saturday nights so she could wear her snazzy purple stable rug as I was able to turn her at weekend mornings.
 
Yup I do! Saves time but more so I do it as knowing my rugs are definitely waterproof and so my horses are guaranteed to be dry underneath so they are always warm and toasty under the rugs rather than in the morning or night taking off a rug which theyre cosy in to then put a cold rug on them! And as someone else said they dry much quicker when left on due to the horses body heat underneath. I have all different makes, when you are buying T/O rugs just make sure label says its breathable then you should be fine to use it in the stable - definitely saves money too! lol
 
Yes me, saves loads of time in the morning. I do remove the rugs and give them a quick groom quite often though. Mostly have Horsewear, Amigo and Mark Todd rugs
 
I do if the rug's wet when he comes in, dries better on him than on the peg! And in winter if I need a MW with a neck I use his MW turnout rather than buying a MW stable - saves time and money.
 
We generally change ours into stables because they're both manic rollers in the field so come in sulking - however if its dry they stay in. xxxx

^^ This. I have a few turnouts so can afford to leave one on overnight if he's clipped. I mix up turnouts and stable rugs if needed.

Depends on what you're getting-a hairy or a thin skinned thing!
 
I have used t/o rugs 24/7 for about 8 yrs now.... saves time, rugs dry better on horse rather than hanging to dry and I don't like putting a cold stable/turnout rug on a warm horse....

All my turnout rugs are Premier Equine :), they used to be really affordable and at the cheaper end of the market, but they are quite expensive now.... saying that they are really well made, tough and they wash up really well - well worth the money in my books!!

Thinking about it, I don't even own a stable rug! Lol......
 
I used to years ago until my horse caught it and ripped it in the stable. Hmmm outdoor wug value £200 or indoor rug value £50 - I know which I'd rather have ripped! I visited my friend in Germany and the others on the yard thought she was a bit weird having "nightclothes" for her horse as they just have outdoor rugs which are also used indoors.
 
Me too - I used to feel so cruel on an icy morning, taking off a lovely snug stable rug to put on a cold Turnout rug. Then decided to leave the turnout on...... Voila. Dry rugs and clean, warm horse.:D
Good if you have a drip in your stable roof as well.

Premier equine say their rugs are dual purpose, also many of Shire's say they are.
Mine are all different makes & all are worn both in & out of the stable. They repel stains much better too.
 
I used to all the time last winter, but this year I wont. Which is a shame in a way, as it was always bone dry in the morning and it wont be if I hang it up - The only reason being is that my mare lost part of her mane, and since i hope to plait it I don't want it all gone again as its just grown back. So I will leave it out to dry and use another T/O rug the next morning and leave her rugged up with a stable rug(s) without a neck on, but neck for out in the day.

yes,I do.

the modern rugs dry really quickly,no way could you used to do it with the old fashioned stiff rugs.

my friend always changes them and her yard smells of mouldy rugs when it has been raining.
 
I do for all the reasons above but also as the tougher outsides don't soak up the stable stains and stink like stable rugs!
 
I have and I am afraid always will change my horses into their stable rugs. If they are soaking wet, I have spares for the next day as the only reason I could see to leave them on was to dry them off on the horse but that also seems a bit mean.

Theory is - you have to take the rug off to check the animal properly so you may as well change the rug.
 
my mare is living out until friday so I'm not sure what to do yet re rugs! she is a fat welsh cob, so won't be trivial I doubt.
 
I do as a top rug to keep the stable rugs dry and clean but I have a seperate t/o rug which is just used for in the stable. At the end of winter the rug can just be jet washed clean
 
I do. Four horses and working full time - it saves me time in the morning not having to change them. Each night two get groomed and re-rugged - alternate the other two next night. They are warm and happy. I have amigo and weatherbeeta rugs with spares if drenched but like others if only a bit wet (and dry and warm underneath) I leave on and when I have done my night check I have found their body heat has dried the rug out anyway. :)

Same reasons as above....sames time, saves money, saves putting a cold rug on a warm horse, dries out muddy rugs better than hanging up....

They are checked/removed and put back on every night, but it means I don't have to mess about in the mornings.

I do have fleeces for mid season when they are naked during the day, or for after bathing and travelling, but they have all been washed and put away for spring now.:)
 
Yup, have always used t/o indoors and out, saves a lot of money! The only time I have used stable rugs is when my horse was on box rest as she was in 24/7 and it was summer so I just needed something light and breathable to add an extra bit of warmth on the chilly nights.
 
ATM I'm using the Weatherbeeta Tristar rugs. Switched to them last winter after being a committed Rambo buyer. Tristar's are half the price of rugs in the Rambo range and are equal to them (if not slightly better in some respects) IMO. I think as long as the t/o rug is taken off and put back on once or twice a day to make sure it isn't rubbing, slipped or uncomfortable, it's fine to use t/o rugs for indoor use, too. Personally, I use a lycra body rug underneath mine so the liner can be washed reasonably often. But dual-purpose rugs works for me :)

have been using turnout rugs in stable since having children and needing to save time. children now 11 and 13 and they do same so its quicker to turn out before school. use good quality and well fitting rugs and anything with pointy shoulders! gets a stretchy shoulder protector underneath. if rugs come with back straps i take them off as not needed in stable and can rub. however most recent brilliant idea to save expensive best rugs we put a masta light no filling waterproof rug over top to go out in mud and rain. indoor/outdoor rug then kept clean for in stable and we have had virtually no damage to best rugs either. the top rugs are easily washed and dried. oh i tend to buy outdoor rugs with detatchable neck cover as this is only bit that gets muddy if masta rugs are on top. they just come off and go in washing machine or sink a lot easier than having to clean whole rug.

Much much quicker, and rugs dry better on the horse (provided horse is dry underneath).

I have horseware rugs, love amigos and rhinos :)
 
When our horses had to be in at night they wore their FAL Vikings in and out of the stable. Highly breathable high quality rugs - but like rocking horse poo to get hold of now unfortunately.
