Anything interesting at Slade Lays Farm? Not used them, just seen some nice looking horses popping up on fb

HQ number 228817?

I like the look of him. He’s a nice stamp without being too chunky. Unless the rider is a midget he looks like he takes up the leg well if he’s a fraction under 15 hands. Would like to see videos of him moving. I’d say he is priced quite strongly on his potential as he hasn’t really done anything, which is a niggle of mine.

Sophie Damment eventing (also known as new forest sports horses) has some lovely young connies available. They’re too young for me but might be right up your street!

Just had a look at her facebook page - she's a lovely rider. I am now slightly in love with Philly ?. Her website is really good too, very professional. Shame she isn't closer as I'd be tempted to send Pebbles to her.

My friend does physio work with her so I know she’s very genuine. I really like Cheddar but sadly he’s just a bit too young and green for a nervous nellie like me!

How long till you can try anything though? A friend of mine has one for sale on her yard - pretty much exactly what you want, but no point in any advertising because no one can come to see it and no vet will do a vetting! Its owner hasn’t even seen it since lockdown - still being ridden but no sale possible!

I think some dealers are still advertising in the hope that people will take the risk and buy unseen and not vetted, they may offer a refund if the horse doesn't suit but it is still a huge risk as there are so many things that can go wrong, not least it going lame within a week, not covered by insurance, will a dealer take it back then, highly unlikely.

I would say if you would not normally buy unseen, it is a riding horse rather than a youngster or possibly a cheaper hack, then it is best to be patient and wait until you can view properly and also can view more than one so less pressure to buy the only one you do see, I think this is a time to be is some ways more careful than normal as it could be the perfect way for a dealer to offload the ones they would usually struggle to shift.

I am expecting the 'essential travel only' rule to be lifted soon if not today. You can easily view horses while socially distancing if they have an outdoor arena to use. So I am drawing up a shortlist and asking for video so I can plan a viewing trip when restrictions ease. That chestnut upthread has already sold so some are shifting but he must have sold unseen and I won't do that. I have been interested enough in 5 to do some more investigations and get video not including the chestnut who I was planning to view - and all have been eliminated with more info. So spade work now will hopefully save time later. Though prices are far too high imho so I may wait anyway till the private sellers start advertising again. Dealers with own land may be able to to afford to wait longer. But if you are paying livery or sales livery on a horse you are selling you may price to sell more. And I think a LOT will be coming up for sale soon. I know a few friends with ponies who were going to sell at the end of the season who are planning on selling now instead.

Well I'm here if she wants to message me!

Hmm, the beautiful one on my yard was sold and vetted this week. No idea which vet. I know the yard uses the RVC, no idea if the new owner used them.

What was wrong with the other dun - the one that had a gap in its record?

Several issues for me - others may see it differently but reading between the lines I decided he was not suitable. There was an injury in 2019 and he has not competed since so it is unclear how much work he would now stand up to as he has not been able to get out this year either. And no unaff 90 record was presented - if he was DC at 90 I would have assumed they would list results. Google search of the name does not bring up any unaff results which it would if he had gone to places like Eland. So for me there are questionmarks over both ability and soundness. And an ad that I don't fully trust because of the 'won't go novice' comment which I think is a silly thing to say about a horse who apparently hasn't even gone 90! Gut feeling I guess. I could be wrong and miss out on a lovely sound horse with BE100 potential but too many question marks for me.
