I am looking to invest in a nice warm rug for my TB/Warmblood boy who gets really cold, even though he isn't clipped. We have just moved yards and its sooooo cold and windy. I am looking at the Full neck Bucas Power Turnout or the Full neck Rambo Plus Heavyweight both are around £200. Just wondered what you all thought, Oh and he has a really deep shoulder and broad chest All advice appreciated as need to justify spending so much money to my OH

A friend of mine had the Bucas one and it was pretty good, but tbh I wasn't keen on the lining. I did like the fastenings though but the neck might be a bit snug if your horse is on the larger side.

I was going to get the Rambo Plus but in the end I opted for the Rambo Supreme as I wanted to be able to take the neck off if necessary. Blooming brilliant rug, I couldn't be more pleased with it. And it's the first one I've had that hasn't rubbed my mare's mane off.

OOh, forgot to say, my horse is cob x so fairly substantial and her Rambo fits brilliantly. Also I really like the leg arches as you can wrap the rug right round their tum

I am an OH & I'm afraid you could not justify to me spending £200 on a rug. We have a TB x Hann & A Selle Francais x Holsteiner & there is no way we would ever spend £200 on a rug. There are plenty of turnout rugs which are just as warm that don't cost anything like that amount. Sorry

Well that's true, but to paraphrase the advert: cost of new rug: £200... knowing your horse is warm and dry, whatever the weather: priceless

rambo! but imo the best is to just layer rugs up

Interesting. I don't like layering rugs as I think the risk of them slipping is too great, and the combined weight is uncomfortable.

I do agree about Rambos though

Awesome rugs and the supreme would be my choice too

not being funny but whats wrong with just buying a neck attachment? for what 20 quid?

saxon do a really good one this year which has eleastic and velcro which keeps a snug fit and so far doesnt seem to rub

I like Fal!! really hardwearing - for my WB x who was living out I bought a Fal chieftan (250 grm) with the fal commander underrug and belly pad (so totaling 450 grm) I liked the fact that his belly was kept warm...!

Rambo Duo, you can layer it up or down depending on the weather. Liners are relatively cheap and the outer rug is ok to use on its own as a lightweight in Spring. I have one, its fab and gone thro 3 Winters so far, washed and re-proofed like new and best investment I have ever made. Not a rug just for Winter, I like the versatility of it.

I have fal and rambo rugs which are onto there 10 plus years in service! (so they are in the long run cost effective) So can vouch for how long they last! Out of your two choices I would definately opt for the rambo but do look at fals because they are just as good and just as hard wearing! I do also like the look of the premier equine rugs, but have no experience of the fit or how hardy they are..

Go for Rambo, or Fal pro .Have been using them for best part of 20 years. some I have are 11 years old, I wash them, don't need to reproof and NO RUBS, no leg straps as self righting I have Tbs, TBx, Lippizaners, Cleveland Bay, Irish Draught. and cobs,

i know you said you didnt like bucas 'cause of lining but i have one and they are amazing -it gets rid of sweat or moisture and i chuck mine on after he is ridden, regardless of when sweaty or wet and it wicks it away really quickly. the fastening is fab -i have really bad circulation in my hands in the winter and its so much easy than fiddling with buckles

I always bought Rambo's, new horse arrived and I did the same. The rambo design took half her mane off two years in a row.

Last year I replaced the whole lot with Mark Todd's all with removeable neck covers. She rarely wears it without the neck cover but her mane has stayed nice

The only other T/o rug I have is a Bucas and that's lovely too.

Having actually got both I prefer Bucas on my warmblood x (who is more TB like in his frame). Does not slip and keeps him a good temperature.

i have a Fal Warrior its fantastic .

i have the Fal Commander which is like the Rambo Duo an inner and an outer its fantastic.

i also have the Rambo Duo its great but not as roomy as my Fals.

i would pay out for FAL RUGS over any other make as the last for years
