Wintery Weekend plans?

Hurrah, you jumped Bertie Bassett 😊😊😊

Fiona

Well, technically, we only jumped his liquorice allsorts - jumping over BB himself is a bit ambitious for me :p

Fabulous photos JFTD ! Where is that, I like those fences?!

Claverings Farm, Halstead - not overly near you, but a good drive (M11 / A120 so dual carriageway virtually all the way). It's very cheap and really well run so my idea of a good deal!

Good carrot!

I’m at work CPD :(

Sucks :(

Denbob I keep meaning to ask, why is your horse covered in loo roll in your avatar :p

CC improves every time out JFTD! :D cracking.

Just got in from our first WH show!!
I am so proud of my lad he was no where near as spooky as I thought he would be!! We won the first class :D
Unfortunately didn’t make the top 4 for placing in the second class due to a knock down of a plank, but he jumped much better in the bigger class!!

Not bad for a ‘dressage’ horse - I am beaming with pride :D

We have fancy dress classes at our yard fun days and i was intending to enter but life got in the way and I didn't get a costume sorted.

It got to the fancy dress class and one of the younger girls had put loads of effort into her costume but nobody else had anything sorted so we all ran off in a panic to try and bulk out the class so she didn't lose out after all her hard work - I had loo roll in my car (and had had a few cheeky glasses of Pimms...) and Denzel had been on box rest for a few weeks so he became 'sick note' 😂 it looked a lot better when it first went on but the wind was against us... We actually came 2nd (I think) for pure comedy value🙈

Sounds like a great first go BR 😁

I boxed Arts to the other side of the forest this morning for a short hack (to start getting her used to the idea of going somewhere to ride and come home, in anticipation of proper outings at some point), and took OH and dogs along for the ride. It was delightful, although at the start we did encounter a lemon sucker. She was walking a border terrier, put it on the lead as I approached and then stood looking at me with a nasty smell under her nose, I grinned and said thank you and marched on by. My OH was a little way behind with the dogs on leads and the woman grabbed his attention as he caught up with her....

Woman: there's a horse up there look
OH: yes
Woman: well I don't think it should be allowed
OH: it is a bridleway I suppose
Woman: well I've had to put my dog on a lead and I never usually have to. They're just ruining everyone else's walks and that horse had a funny look in its eye too
OH: oh right, yeah actually it's my horse

<OH walks off leaving the angry woman without a cause to mutter>

People are odd. But Arty was super and seemed to enjoy her little outing so all in all a great morning 😁

Saddle fitter coming tomorrow for both the girls so am a mixture of excited and doom laden 🙈

Brilliant, I am so glad I asked! :D:D

Looks super smart BR :)

Batty women with terriers. Can’t beat them 🤣😜

Love the licorice allsort jump!
Bad luck Michen - I never jump well at camp either. The camp I go to has rocket fuel haylage I think as Amber is always bonkers. Glad SJ went well.
Love the loo roll story!!

Our foray into the world of BSJA was interesting. We were at the Pony Winter Championship and the lorry park looked like an Oakley showroom. I had serious lorry envy. I swear if I was single I'd just buy the best lorry ever and live in it instead of a house!

I discovered that they start em young in showjumping! There were kids who looked about 6 or 7 on tiny ponies flying over MAHOOSIVE fences.

Sadly not our day. Alarm was set for 4:30 am. Ouch. I think the tiny kids on whizzy ponies freaked Izzy out a bit. The warm up jumps were up at a metre or so and the kids were galloping at them at 100mph! They are seriously gutsy. Izzy felt intimidated and rode very tentatively and was eliminated for coming off when Jenny ducked out at a fence Izzy was unsure of. Then we realised they change the course for the next round! And she had put herself first in the 90. So she was not able to watch any rounds and was unsure of where to go after the fairly brief course walk. So even though she then pulled herself together and rode better, an error of course ended their 90.

Oh well we live and learn. All good experience. Jenny coped well with an indoor school, music and busy collecting ring so that was good.

well it wasn't very wintery after all today
Glorious sunshine by the time we arrived at the show. Kira was an absolute twit  had a huge nap just trying to go round the outside of the arena (at a venue she knows well:rolleyes:) and then we managed to find a really deep spot/hole in the arena between B & X and she almost fell flat on her face. Annoyingly we had to travel over that bit quite a few times , guess they had suffered from the snow & rain earlier in the week.

Anyway, she did her 3s and 4s and the piris were under control, the rest was a bit meh esp with the ridiculous spooking but it was enough for 63% and a win :p Will just chalk that one up to experience!

It's Kira's birthday today so we went home for birthday tea :)

Happy birthday Kira x x

My ponies birthdays are on the same day 22nd May, so we have a joint party 😊😊

Hard luck AE, tell I she's very brave x x and fingers crossed it goes much better next time...

We had a lovely hack this morning and spectating at Tyrella in the sunshine this afternoon..

Falling asleep on the sofa now 🤣🤣

Happy Birthday Kira. Poor Frank, you must be owed a lot of presents.
It was Mr H’s birthday a few days ago.....1April....I’ve told him it explains a lot....

SJ lesson was great fun, we managed all but one of our flying changes - this has been my burning ambition ever since I was a kid to be able to jump a course and be able to do flying changes. (This feat reflects in no way on my riding or schooling, it’s just that mr H is very clever and works things out for himself. In fact both SJ and flatwork instructor agree he is too clever for his own good but I digress...)
Mr H was his usual enthusiastic self and instructor had me sit up / slightly back and hold him when he was tanking which did seem to work. To Mr H’s disgust.
I thought it was going to be cold and wore multiple layers as well as body protector, I was boiling and so out of puff after one (tanking and arguing about who was in control) round of the course I was unable to complete a sentence, to instructor’s amusement and my shame .
Flatwork lesson was different kettle of fish, mr H does not enjoy it, is argumentative and behind the leg and kicks out if I use too much leg or heaven forbid, tap him. Having said that the lunging has improved his trot work a lot. Canter still resembles annoyed giraffe.

Well done on the BSJA AE and Izzy, glad you enjoyed ride despite sour faced old boot dabdab, (good luck with saddle fitter) enjoy rest of weekend everyone

My WH was good, clear in the M&M 60cm for third and one pole in the 80cm for 4th, so pleased with him though because he didn't stop!! The judge really liked him but said he was too skinny 🤨 you can't feel his ribs! He does have hollows at his flanks (particularly when out in a stressy situation) but you've all seen the videos of him recently, he's fit not fat! I said I'm getting him fit for eventing and I previously had a laminitic pony and she said oh that's ok then 😅 it's the only thing that got to me today (well aside from waiting 4 hours for my class...reminds me why I don't do local showing 🙄

Well done everyone :D.

I didn't manage to ride yesterday as my Dad had a car emergency and we had to go and sort it out. Today I planned to go up to the top (bigger) common and do lots of slow walking up and down the hill and re-introduce trot. Maddie had other plans...the second the gate closed on the second common she was trantering sideways, rearing, a being a bit of a pillock! I eventually settled her enough to get her to walk which went out of the window when we hit the bit that she used to do fitness work on - it's a mile and a half of good, smooth, turf on an incline - where she grabbed the bit and f***ed off at top speed. According to Equilab she clocked 19mph and I couldn't pull her up until she was nearly at the top!
Eventually she settled enough to do some (very Welsh, very uncomfortable) short trots and walked home on the buckle like she'd not spent the best part of an hour being an utter lunatic . I guess she's fitter than I thought as she wasn't blowing hard at any point.

Grrr this really gets to me too! Far too many show ponies are overweight. 'Show condition' basically means FAT. I once did some showing and was also told that my lean, fit horse was too thin.

I’m not sure you can take a lean fit horse showing without being fully prepared for those kind of comments 😂

I was only doing it for ring experience but it really did wind me up! Shouldn't judges want the healthiest horses to do well?

Ha ha yes I did expect it to be fair but it still annoyed me! I went to get some more rustic fence experience plus there was nothing else in nearby. Had to wait soooo long to go in that i don't think I'll be going again. My normal local show has "not before X" so it's a bit easier to plan.
Here's the vid of the jumping (80)

Oh no I hadn't thought of it like that!
It's June sometime, I think I tend to think its the 23rd but that when I look that's wrong and it's the 17th?! probably July now :p.

I've never been told he was too think showing :o

Took Dolly and Amber to a XC clinic on the 80 acres at Somerford today. Katie told the instructor at the start that she just wanted a confidence building session and also would want to stop early if Dolly was tiring. But she needn't have worried I don't think Dolly is unfit, I think she has just been a bit bored. She was on top form today! Flew round everything with such confidence and jogged all the way back to the lorry with pricked ears. Seems like XC is her 'thing'. She was absolutely awesome. The instructor built it all up slowly - ie small ditch, small brush, bigger ditch, bigger brush, brush over ditch etc etc. But she just never hesitated at anything. She jumped drops, skinnies, ditches and drops into water - and stayed relaxed and focused so Katie could link fences and hold quite spooky lines through 3-4 jumps in a row. What a pony! We are now going to hack for a week then give her a week off as we are in Cyprus. And then it is pony club camp.

Looking great Michen! Especially considering this was the part of the clinic you were disappointed with!! It must have felt a lot worse than it was because he looks fab. x
