So far looking much better than the men's yesterday!
Is anyone else watching this?
Sorry if someone has already made this thread my net is being slow and HHO is being difficult

Holy crap - people who don't ride much better than me in the Olympics !

I'm really surprised - I thought most of the MP types got into it through Pony Club Tet, I thought their riding would be better.

Still not making an enjoyable watch though, especially since the majority of these horses look like my horse and it is putting me off jumping him because these riders could do a better job than me so I dread to think what we would look like together

Are the jackets etc that the riders wear their own or do they borrow them?
What is the new height?

Oh dear

A lame horse ridden through a round

I think its 1.10 ??

Agreed its still horrible to watch ... olympic standard eh ?

Hf - GB rider is beautifully turned out .. and seems she can actually ride ?

ETA - Lovely to see her pat/praise her horse after the round too ..

Interesting that 6 of the horses that "jumped" yesterday have been withdrawn . . . . . . but the ones that are left, although performing better today, aren't exactly sparkling examples of "showjumpers" . . . but then, they aren't

Clare Balding seemed the only one remotely concerned that the horse cantered through the finish on 3 legs - literally! They didn't even look as though they checked him

I'm also a bit

about the fact that these horses jumped yesterday - they are now jumping 3 rounds each and each rider has 25 mins warm up. Hope the poor buggers get a well earned rest after this - they certainly deserve it

It's ironic how that fences have been lowered for the women, who (in general) are better riders than the men! I hope that one who finished on 3 legs will be ok. There seems to be a complete absence of anyone interested in the horses welfare at the event, the horse should never have been allowed to start the round.

It's making riveting viewing!
I'm sitting there cringeing over most fences and shouting instructions, and feeling sorry for the horses, and husband is laughing saying it's the most interesting bit of the whole Olympics for him (nasty devil)
The trouble is many of the athletes have learned to ride to compete in MP, whereas in the Uk, they come up from the Pony Club tetrathlon level, and therfore are "proper" riders.
Alex Fell is a local girl (she must be related to the woman from the same area who wrote the Irish Draught book I reckon) and rode really well I thought.
Someone said the other day the problem with the Brits is we only seem to excell at the sports where you are sitting down, and it does seem to be true in lots of cases.. (though swimming and running can't count then can they!)
Off now to watch the rest, shades of Amy Tyron when that girl didn't get off the horse on three legs, I wanted to pull her off...

GT maybe the lowered it because of the appauling rounds produced yesterday and did it to make it easier on the horses?
I am appauled that no-one seems to interested in the 3 legged horse when he was leaving the arena, no-one told the rider to get off or anything
frown.gif

I have just posted on the thread Penthalon governing body. I am angry and appalled at the lack of ability and damn right cruelness that happened yesterday. Whilst the womens is marginal better it is still appalling.

Did you see the blokes!!!!! I think its normally really exciting if a bit cringeworthy - but yesterday was serious horse abuse.

the Chinese girl was SO lucky, good horse to carry on and jump clear through that treble while she clung on, amazing to get the first clear!
i didn't see the men's comp, but these aren't too bad at all tbh. wish they could feel when the horse is disunited though!
btw Clare's commentary is a spot-on as ever!

What the hell was she doing, poor little horse very honest to jump it with her hauling on his mouth and kicking him on.

I am so glad I only saw a few riders go yesterday!

I think Claire was flying over from HK yesterday for this, as now all th eEquestrian stuff is over.

Did you hear her; "Oh no! That was horrid... yanking him in the mouth!"

Yay a brit! We walked past Claire at Badminton one year and my grandpa said very loudly "Shes a lesbian!!!"

I was vair embarrased!!

Sorry if none of that made sense, Im touch typing aswatching the telly!!

Em

the one who finished on 3 legs did so because it clouted the last 2 fences so hard, i thought, a bit of instant "dead leg" that might be fine in 2 mins. (i've seen this btw!)
i didn't think he looked lame through the round... disunited a lot, which tells a story, obv, but not lame behind imho until the finish.

Trying to report write so not watching this but sounds better than yesterday. Posted on the Pentathlon govering body thread that apparently the course designer builds the course in accordance to the experience and quality of the horses being provided (or something like that - exact wording in other thread). Maybe they had a rethink after yesterday?

Also good that they've got Clare B doing commentry, at least she knows what she's talking about!
