so basically the HHO answer to improving the standard of riding in the MP is to replace the showjumping phase with 'survive a lesson on a riding school pony' then?

Yep if you can keep it moving for the entire time and get it to go in the right direction then you get max points, no spurs allowed and you get marks for style so no agricultural riding! Or style jumping on a rs pony .

I watched the Mens yesterday and spent the entire time yelling at the TV for the riders to let their horses heads go and ride forward - my OH was most amused - recording this so will watch it when I get home
