Would you let a HHO member ride your horse?

I would if my horse was "anyones ride" but he's not he is a cheeky chap and pretends to be very nervous for the first 10 minutes of someone new riding him! If you show any fear towards him then its game over. If I knew the rider was calm, confident, quiet and competent I would but not if I didn't know them. A few of my friends have ridden my horse and he's fine with them but he would be absolutely no good for a novice/nervous rider and I wouldn't want to risk injuring anyone.

I would.

And next time I bump into dafthoss at a show I might try and persuade her to do a round on the knobber too :)

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but last time I checked, you didn't have a ridden horse - you have a boat :p And I would love to set sail in the HMS BH :D

If you ever feel like pony squishing, you'd be welcome on mine :) As would Dafthoss, though she might start by waving at them in the field next time she's heading past

:o I dont think you realise just how much the yellow one covers for me  poor guy and I am useless at riding any thing horse sized. But if your still ok with that I'll hop on but dont think I will be able to do a better job than you do, then you can ride the yellow one :D.
I tried to spy them the other day when I drove past but I couldnt :( as the A14 was actually moving for once.

If you get complaints about a mad girl on a yellow pony that will be me saying hi to the ponies :D. Will definatly have to go out pony squishing some time although I dont really class as a pony squisher as I'm such a short ass :p.

I think I'd maybe let some people ride her, but i'm very selective on who I let ride her and that's people i know well! :p She is very much a one person horse though and usually only behaves for me!

I'd let anyone ride my horse. I never understand the whole thing about "oh, nobody novicey" - if that's the case, then chances are the horse probably isn't well schooled enough. (not talking about taking a fresh, recently broken 4-year old on a hack, by the way - but most mature horses should IMO be schooled enough to cope with less than a very experienced rider).

Trish C has said I can have a go on Monty Knobberts.. although I'm not sure if I should take that as a good thing or not :D

I suspect that might be less of a kind offer and more of a threat! :D

Mwaha!

I'm really looking forward to it to be honest, I love seeing other people riding him... I think it's good for both of us for him to be ridden by someone different every now and again.

There're plenty of people I'd love to ride the Knobster - way I feel is that they can't really be worse than me... I'm certainly not getting the best out of him (but I'm trying and we're both improving). Everyone who I've seen ride him so far (my old YO, another livery at old yard, current YO and even the Mothership) have brought out different abilities in him. :)

Equally no-one has made him go drastically better than me (in fact no-one else has been able to ride his canter quite like me :D) so that was slightly gratifying as well, in pure ego terms ;)

Plus, oh Fleecy Festive one, if you're happy to come down the day after 'that' night out, then you'll be safer because I won't want to get you so drunk that you'll be too hungover to ride him the following day! :D

Anybody is welcome to ride the little b*gger at the moment! :p

LadyT25 has ridden mine, and I've ridden hers, and I think we both might agree than neither swap was too succesful, her's seems to either like dumping me or falling over, mind you he does that with her too! :D

I disagree little flea, although my tb would probably be fine with some one novicy walking him around it only takes one thing to spook him and for the rider to fall off, it's not worth the risk imo!

Some horses are just sharper by nature, especially fit competition horses (which mine isn't!), just because they are not suitable for a novice it doesn't mean they are not well schooled!

I wish someone would reply to my ad for a competition rider to ride my horse. There is no money either way, just ride 3-4 times a week and compete her - there must be someone good enough out there who is looking for a ride. All work done by me. We are in Kent by the way not far from Brands Hatch.

Pretty much yes, a few did when I had the RS. In fact, would willingly let someone come back and break in Harmony as me daughter cba.....

I actually agree with both of you. I get very wound up by people saying their horse is too quirky for your average rider as I think it indicates a lack of or failure in their training. But it all depends on your definition of a novice rider and your differentiation between a novice, a normal rider and a complete beginner.

I'd let anyone on my old boy, but while I'd be happy for a total beginner to sit on the highland, I wouldn't let them loose as he can be sharp and if you're unbalanced you will hit the deck. Some people on here's definitions of novice riders, I would let ride him, he will behave. I wouldn't let anybody take over his schooling long term though as I have very fixed ideas on how these things should be done :p

A couple of HHOers have ridden Murphy. To be fair, I'll let most people ride him, he's a little star and you can put a complete complete beginner on him, show them the steering and brakes, and send them off round a field for a wander.

However - he does like to show up experienced riders, who usually give him back after 5 mins and are dripping with sweat and red in the face and/or complaining that they feel totally incapable of riding :)

enfys do yours come with a pre ride manual?

Ear plugs, instructions play as you go :D

Honestly, they are all as safe as houses, as you said, we just haven't read the same manual. I'd spent 35 years riding a la BHS (kind of), spent the last few years hunting up and down mountains on a homicidal ayrab without a care in the world, then I came here, got on a cow pony in an arena and was on the floor before I knew what the hell happen :(:o:D

I bought the cowpony, she's brilliant.

I'd be happy for people to ride mine. There's nothing speshul about any of them, just bog standard nags.
