i've decided to move yards (once i've got the all clear from my little mare) anyway i've been to see both and wanted to make sure i'm not being blinded by what i want as apose to whats best for my horses.

Yard A is about 1/2 an hour from my house and is run by a older lady, who seem very knowledgeable. its a farm which is 100 arces

Pro's

- huge stables the smallest being 15ft by 15ft
- decent sand school which is raked daily
- hacking on the farm
- nice turn out with seperate mares and gelding fields
- cheap feed and bedding
- hayledge included in the £30 pw livery
- doesn't get very muddy in winter
- the feed all the horse at 7am for no charge and assitance's if required

cons

- no yard transport so would have to get my own to take mine to the vets
- quite far away as i don't drive
- no hacking off the farm really

Yard B is run by a farmer set on 200 acre farm but only about 30 arces as turnout, and is 15 mins from my house

pros

- gallops
- excellent hacking for miles
- hay and bedding onsite
- vets just literally across the road
- wormer included in the £28 pw

cons
- regular size 12ft x 12ft stables
- restricted to there hay (have fussy tb's)
- can only use certain bedding and not allowed shavings
- no assitants (bar other liverys)
- no knowledge/experiance person on site when things go wrong
- no transport
- wood chip school doesn't look overly cared for

Umm.....That's a tricky one! Yard A sounds better but 1/2hr is a long way to go if you don't drive, I guess it depends how easy it would be for you to get there.

Well I prsume when you say 1/2 hour do you mean on a bus, a lift in a car, bike? How old are you couldn't you get a moped. The only down I could see you raised was transport to vets? Let the vet come to you?

I voted yard A

Its not clear whether its full livery, part or diy which would make a difference to the decision. I voted for B because if you don't drive then its going to be easier to get to and has gallops and good hacking.

Ooohh, I am not sure. I would go with yard C which is a mixture of both! OK, so no real help there!
So you should a) Are these the only TWO yards that are a possibility, is there no yard C, so to speak?
B)How would you even get to yard a, if you do not drive??
(though, yard a, sounds better if you want to school more!)(if you're a bigger hacker/eventer then go with yard b)
Goodluck.x

Ooh too hard to make a decision ! Yard B because it's nearer and 12 x 12 stables are Ok plus excellent hacking but then Yard A sounds fab too !! but B is closer ......... Yep got to be B...... or.... sorry I'd have to visit them to know, not much help am I ??

its diy i only do diy but do like the assitances to be there if i need it. my other half drives and i need to look into how i could get there should i choose either. i am going to look at more yards before i make my final choice but i think i no where i want to go.

the vet does come out but my gelding has to go in for bone scans ect and its easier for him to be in.

we are considering me getting a moped

Oh I see sorry. Well good luck with which every you choose.

I voted for yard A - there is a way round the issue of travelling to the yard as you mentioned you could get a moped.

There is too much at Yard B that would annoy me - having to buy their hay, restrictions on type of bedding and I assume it would require you to make 2 visits to the yard - one to feed breakfast and turn out and then later to bring in.

Yes the lack of transport is an inconveniece but it's rare to even have that option - I don't have it at my yard so if I need it I can hire a transporter which I assume would also be an option for you?

why are you leaving the yard you are on?
i would go for the yard that i closest to you.
