Yet another delightful rider..... not..... when will this end?

lol, they’ve made it so you can’t reply. Disgusting. Membership will be cancelled
None of this surprises me. When I reported the dodgy Scottish dealer who sold me a drugged up horse (she was a Vice Chairman of the BHS!) it took ages for anything to be done and I had to keep on at them. Eventually she was removed from her position but is still dealing in horses with serious problems.

IMHO BHS has not been fit to call itself BHS for a fair few years. I cancelled my membership some years ago after attending an EGM when BHS was trying to set up official BHS presence for training and examinations in China.

It had been discovered that BHS instructors and/or board members were sent Business Class by BHS to teach said training and examine the candidates. They had been paid handsomely, by whom was opaque at the time. The BHS board if I recall correctly declined to give details.

A BHS member who stood up to speak to the board was physically assaulted by a man behind her. The chair chose not to rebuke nor mention the assault. Despite the whole meeting being officially filmed by at least 2 cameras, only being open to paid up members who's name's and membership numbers were all recorded as we entered captured on CCTV according to posted notices, BHS could not/would not identify the individual to the assaulted woman.

Islay Auty BHS Fellow and other long standing respected BHS Fellows and previous board members were all asking the same questions at the EGM about this Chinese "deal". Who sanctioned the expenditure of a Chinese BHS "office", provision of official BHS training and the examination system?

I never found out the answers having cancelled my membership and the very recently written membership cheque (Gold membership)!!

I also cancelled my membership at this time, there were certainly some shenanigans going on. The treatment of Sheila Hardy was appalling and she well deserved to win her unfair dismissal case. I suspect they behaved equally as badly towards Wendy Suddes whose claim was rejected due to being filed a day too late. The very expensive, luxury horsebox they procured for reasons that were not clear, was not what I wanted my gold membership subscription to be used for either. Definitely lost their way.

The BHS seems to make most of its money by its exam system. I am not sure how easy it would be for them to say to someone who has passed their exams to be told "sorry you no longer are classed as having passed that exam". Not promoting them on their website and on official lists of instructors would be easier to do than remove the qualification.

I was told many years ago that I would lose my qualifications if I did not renew my membership to the society. I do not know if this is true but I am no longer a member.

The second para is utter rubbish - they’re yours for life, regardless of membership status. It’s only if you are a current APC and want to remain one where you have to be an active member but that’s no different to any other professional affiliation.

The one Catembi shared on this thread, follow up messages have been repeating the “we cannot comment on individual cases” spiel.

I remeber this well including the assault on the poor lady in the room. The BHS were playing fast and loose with members money re the Chinese training scheme. The large horsebox was supposed to be used as a travelling class room, the smaller 3.5 ton Ive no idea what that was for. A lot of people resigned after that meeting I for one do not know if the chinese training scheme ever came to anything. Personally I feel that the BHS is outdated.

There were several tribunal cases for unfair dismissal which members money had to be paid out to the victims. Even people who were non salaried were being fired such as Welfare Officers. It was a disgusting way to treat people. One was a "Lady" (that was her title) Im so sorry but cant remember her name, was fired and yet she had done a huge amount for some poor uncared for horses in the Hampshire area. Another lady that was fired had been employed for 18 years they said she was useless, well then why was she kept for 18 years! She wasnt useless but I believe she did not like what was going on and spoke up.

That's the reason I stepped down from county committee straight after, it was an absolute bun fight.

Its great news being able to compete bitless for those horses that struggle with a bit but it's not necessarily kinder. My lad panics bitless. Bitless bridles can be very severe in the wrong hands. Just waiting for the possibility to compete in just a neck strap!!

I was writing for the bitless test pictured, the combination did a really nice job, and the judge was happy to judge them exactly the same as the other combinations were judged. I have no problem with bitless, but depending on the bridles used bitless bridles can be very harsh (not talking about the one used in this test), so I dont agree that they are automatically kinder. Personally I believe choice is key, riders should be able to use the bridle (within certain guidlelines) that they feel suits their horse best, some horses prefer a double, so forcing them in a snaffle isnt necessarily kinder, and vice versa. My GP horse goes very nicely in a headcollar, but he always competed in a snaffle. I've had another horse who never settled in a snaffle, but loved a double, it really is all about the individual, in my experience.

Some positive news today with a competitor riding an Elementary test bitless in the UK Armed Forces Dressage Championships in May this year 😍❤️.

One of the comments is from the judge who judged her test and it's really positive too :) .

The judge is my friend. Shes an amazingly talented rider but gave up competing as she refuses to push her horses the way you need to win at high levels. Shes brilliant!

Will a big Hanoverian I had years ago would only ride in a pelham, I hated it and hated the two reins so I got the wee joint for the reins, tried when I got him to change it but he just hated a snaffle 🤣

one of my friends swaps her older mare into a double for showing and her horse transforms into show mode when it’s in. It was fascinating to watch as she was usually so laid back but she just had presence in the show ring.

I’m a member of a professional organisation that requires exam passes to gain membership.
There is also a code of conduct. If you break those conduct rules you are out, regardless of your exam passes.
Good behaviour in an organisation is not hard to police.
