YO has closed the school - ideas pls

Without going into too much detail (I'm fuming but ranting on here won't help) my YO has banned the liveries from the school for 2 days.
Massively frustrating for those of us who work full time as it's dark by the time I can get to the yard, I totally rely on the school during the winter.

Anyway, anyone got any ideas of things to do in the eves while we can't ride ?
 
Unless there is a VERY good reason (maintenance) I would be reducing my livery bill by the cost of hiring another school close by. The price you pay includes use of facilities I am imagining.....

Aside for looking for a new yard? ;) If you have a box you could box out somewhere. Agree with Joeanne about livery cost, though.

2 days, or two days a week? Any local indoor schools you could put reduction in livery (I would be expecting this) towards an hour hire (between other liveries) every couple weeks/monthly.

I will happily spend all night out playing with mine and just spending time with them, scratches/playing/trick training. Wouldn't do much else in the dark though.
 
2 days is not a long time in all fairness. If the school is closed for maintenance I'd be happy with that.

I don't understand the jumping up and down stuff tbh but maybe I'm too laid back and we don't know why its closed so difficult to respond.
 
I'm already looking to move but am struggling to find anywhere at the mo. It's been closed because there were droppings left in the school. Don't really want to debate the rights and wrongs of her decision, I know what I think and I also know it wasn't me.

In the meantime, please does anyone have ideas to entertain me and horse for the next few days?
 
If it is 2 days as a one off, Although I'd be annoyed, I'm sure YO has good reason for it.

If it is 2 days every week. I would either reduce livery bill, or move somewhere else!

Has she said why she has done it? Could you ride before work?

I'm reading it as two days a week. Which I would be massively annoyed about.

If two days, I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

My old YO did this once, as liveries were not picking up after their horses. Frustrating for those that did, but message received loud and clear.

Sounds like the YO is fed up of people not clearing up after them then, Ie treat the facilities with respect or you'll lose them.

She needs to identify who the culprit is then rather than alienate everyone else.
 
Agree with joeanne, unless there's a very good reason such as unavoidable maintenance, or an ill horse that needs it. Otherwise I'd be spending my two eves yard hunting.

So it's a one off two day punishment for someone not cleaning up after their horse?

Not sure what you can do in the dark, other than in hand work in the stable working on manners.

I'm afraid I'd be taking it up with the yo again, as someone said, you aren't at school!
 
Reduce your livery bill accordingly.
When she says you can't do that, its not fair on her, you can reply with she saw fit to punish YOU for someone elses wrong doings, and as such you are returning the favour.
VERY unprofessional. She should have had the droppings cleared and billed the party in question for her time.
 
If they have good turnout, the loss of 2 days shouldn't cause too much problem. How about spending the time doing some stretching exercises and a good massage session to work on those muscles ?

If you are providing a facility and this is removed, I'd reflect it in the bill.

If only 2 nights, just spend time with your horse.

I agree. If it was you then you wouldnt do it again, if it wasnt you then the feelings of annoyance will be felt by the culprit and they wont want to do it again

The school belongs to the YO (or at least is rented by them) so people need to respect it

If it happens again a witch hunt will no doubt find the person responsible and make sure they mend their habits!
 
Very few people on livery ride 7 days a week anyway IME so non issue really. There are plenty of other things to do.

OP has already said its hard to find a new yard so personally I'd wait and see what happens.
 
The actual 2 days would worry me less than the fact that the YO is treating you like naughty children and sees fit to stop everyone using it like this.

If I was the yo I'd be putting up a spy camera and catching out the perpetrator not punishing everyone. In fact a fake spy camera would probably do the job, claim its a sim card one so can be put anywhere :D

That would allow the YO to back down too;)
 
It's just 2 days .... lump it for now is my advise and use peer pressure to have the guilty culprit conform to school rules in future.

Obviously if this is an ongoing issue then you may need to reassess, but 2 days isn't the end of the world and tbh I don't blame the YO!

This. I complained about the state other liveries were leaving the school in (after having to rake it by hand on my own just so I could ride and clearing up 8 poos). No one took any notice. YO threatened to close the school and magically the school was raked and kept tidy :rolleyes:

Sorry for not being clear, I was so irritated and was trying not to be unreasonable myself as I understand why YO is annoyed about it.

^^this is why I was so angry about it, plus the only people actually being penalised are those who work full time. The others can ride in the day on the fields or hacking.

AM did it work:confused:? I travel out of my way to come to this yard and tbh the only thing that keeps me there is the school. I absolutely will not handle basically being told that I can't work my horse at random for reasons totally outside my control.... with no notice, I should add.:(

Thanks, I don't actually want to make a huge confrontation over it, but that's the way I feel.
 
I am afraid I am with the YO in this one. I know how irritating it is as YO to ask people not to leave droppings in the school, I have been out and cleared everything up several mornings a week because liveries were too damn lazy to clear up after themselves. I have asked, i have written and asked. In fact I once tried everything, every livery denied it being them. So what else is there to do. Clearly it is someone who uses the school, so stopping it being used until they get the message is often the only way to get it through to them. Droppings left in ruin the school, and once the school is ruined it is ruined for everyone and is an expensive and timeconsuming job to sort out. It is surely better to close it now, tell everyone why and perhaps the lazy sods will get the message and clear up after themselves. As for it not being the wrong doers that are being punished, well how is the YO supposed to know, without standing watching over everyone. In which case they probably would not reveal themselves. I am sure that every livery knows who left the mess. If so let the YO know so they can be sorted. If you know and keep quiet then to be honest you have to accept the closure. I do not feel it is being treated like a child, although clearly the person who is too lazy to clean it up wants to be treated like a child and cannot accept responsibility for their own actions. 2 days is not long, nor the end of the world.

I do understand why she was annoyed about the droppings, and yes, it's only 2 days. But I plan my week in advance and had a lesson booked, which is adding to the annoyance!

If there had been some warning I'd have picked the blooming poos up myself regardless of who left them there :( :mad:
 
I'd go back to the yo and explain how it penalises you and other ft workers more than others. How big a yard is it, do you have an idea who it might be? I'd also explain that you particularly like the yard due to the school.

It's all very well saying its only two days but what if those are the only two days during the week the op was able to ride.

No need to fall out with the yo but make it clear you are not happy with the situation and while you support their need to find out who the culprit is, this is not the best way to do so.
