My horse has a loose ring NS bit with a lozenge. He seems to prefer his £6.50 ebay bit. People with horses with sensitive mouths might think that it is worth the investment - if they used the bit for 1000 days over the next 3 years= £0.23 a day.
I don't think there are any points at all for Prelim.
Reasons to compete affiliated: higher standard of surface, competition, prize money etc. Access to BD training etc. Also, you could move up and do Novice when ready?
On my horse's BD record from last year - the total points seems to have...
It depends on what he is like to jump at home. If he becomes more excited the more he jumps, just go over a jump about 30seconds before you go in. Otherwise, i think most people do 4-12 warm up jumps. Cross-pole, straight and then a spread maybe.
You could try a pelham without a lozenge - just a single joint? I jump and hack my horse in a single jointed pelham. I tried a gag and had no control! I have tried about 10 different bits.
There is a lot of discussions on the British Dressage forums about EHV.
I am not taking any precautions - yet. It seems to be mainly in the North i think?
I would not like it. In summer my horse is out 24/7 but all the rubber matting/bedding/buckets stay inside the stable. I tack up in there when it is raining. Especially as you will still be paying the same price..
