expensive bits difference a £200+ bit makes?

My horse has a loose ring NS bit with a lozenge. He seems to prefer his £6.50 ebay bit. People with horses with sensitive mouths might think that it is worth the investment - if they used the bit for 1000 days over the next 3 years= £0.23 a day.

    Prelim BD

I don't think there are any points at all for Prelim. Reasons to compete affiliated: higher standard of surface, competition, prize money etc. Access to BD training etc. Also, you could move up and do Novice when ready? On my horse's BD record from last year - the total points seems to have...

    Improvement?

His topline looks much better. More weight covering ribs. But hindquarters still look a bit pointy. Looks healthier/fitter.

how much hay have you gone thru this winter?

This winter we have used about 8 (?) large rectangle bales of hay. One horse is in at night time, the pony has one small haynet a day.

SJ/comp warm up help desperately needed!

It depends on what he is like to jump at home. If he becomes more excited the more he jumps, just go over a jump about 30seconds before you go in. Otherwise, i think most people do 4-12 warm up jumps. Cross-pole, straight and then a spread maybe.

Help need to find a bit that suits my hooligan mare.

You could try a pelham without a lozenge - just a single joint? I jump and hack my horse in a single jointed pelham. I tried a gag and had no control! I have tried about 10 different bits.

    Should I just give up?

You could try 'flexi' reins? They are supposed to help with contact. Carl Hester ones are expensive, but there are other brands etc.

    EHV

There is a lot of discussions on the British Dressage forums about EHV. I am not taking any precautions - yet. It seems to be mainly in the North i think?

    Weighing your horse?

If I could weigh him on a weighbridge, then I would. It would be useful for worming doses. I currently use a measuring tape.

    Sharing Stables

I would not like it. In summer my horse is out 24/7 but all the rubber matting/bedding/buckets stay inside the stable. I tack up in there when it is raining. Especially as you will still be paying the same price..

Would you reply to texts from an advert?

I would reply to the first few texts, but actaully talk to them on the phone while arranging the times etc for viewing.

How fast do you drive your little lorry?

When we had a horsebox it was driven at 50-60mph on the motorway. (5.5 tonne lorry) Now we have a trailer so it is illegal to go faster than 60mph.
