    equine and human therapies?

hi - ive even heard that Aromatherapy can help people who are riders, it can stimulate the production of endorphins which leads people to ride with a more positive and happy dynamic which can dramatically impact the way a horse performs.

Getting horses fit :) replies needed!!

Hiya, my horse has been living out in the field for 1 month whilst i was away on christmas holidays. She was VERY fit before we turned her out and at her current yard she does not have a great deal of turnout although there is a paddock with sparse grass:(. I have looked at several articles...

Is this mud fever or something else?

try washing the affected area with a dilute cleansing solution like hibiscrub then put on some sudocrem with a vaseline coating on top to act as a barrier from any moisture and mud. if you do not have sudocrem, you can try using mud fever ointments instead, they do the same thing

Question re Spurs for all you experienced horse trainers?

try to only use spurs when neccessary and after a while she may learn that a squeeze or jab with the heels means to go forward. In the meantime, try to train her up to the stage where you can only touch her with the spurs and make her move forward then she will probably have learnt the lesson.

Do make sure that you ask the owner exactly why he or she is selling the horse. In other words, make sure that they have a good reason!! I have had some experience when i bought a horse and didnt ask why the owner was selling him, i brought the horse home and he was an utter lunatic!!! Some...

Can anyone recomend any treatments/products or anything for a horse who gets lame?

Hi, I have a haflinger mare who has just recently become lame - she has incredibly strong legs and the vet is coming to see her tomorrow so I will see what he says. However, I am a bit scared by this because she has such good legs and she has become lame recently. One friend of mine said it's...

    Money saving tips!

if you have your horse on livery, look for any old or unwanted rugs lying about for your horse instead of buying new ones. Also if you have a turnout rug or fleece ripped at the front - turn it into an exercise sheet - just cut it to shape and sew on a type of fastener from hardware store...

How can I school my horse often on a yard without a sand school?

I keep my horse on a yard with no good facilities and she is a really good jumper . There is one arena which is used by a riding school until 3 o clock when it is dark and the instructor never really lets you jump much and her lessons cost an arm and a leg. There is a gallop track and hacking...

    Stable Toy ideas

Have you tried the Likit range of toys - they are great fun for horses although, sometimes they are gone quite quickly.... In their hay portion or net hide some treats inside for them to find Get a sweed (not sure if this is how you spell it but this is how you say it - just ask for one at...

    Sweet itch rugs

I would recomend the Boett Blanket very highly because they are specialists in the area. To get them, I would join the Sweet Itch Society, It's very useful as they keep records on your horse and will give you easy access to all products that help prevent sweet itch.

Can you ride on Canal Towing Paths?

No. I don't think you can. It's not really safe anyway - Canal paths have rocks either that are visible or not very visible. That or the ground is not normally very good for riding on. Also there are plenty of things for a horse to spook at too - boats or big waves made by then and then there is...

    Riding in the Dark

I think this is okay as long as you have all the right equipment on and you accept the risk that horses are more likely to spook at things and have a more severe reaction when it is darker out, they only concentrate more in the dark because they can't spot any things that they don't like but...
