how cold is too cold to ride?

My own horses I can't do much with as we don't have safe hacking and our school is frozen. Where I work on a Sunday at a riding school that just hacks, its business as usual whatever the weather but if their sand tracks are solid then no fast work.

In or out in the snow?

Ours were not allowed out today but usually I'd chuck out with hay.

    Rugging and yard peer pressure!

Sounds like you are making the right decision. If you visit daily, you can rug or not rug accordingly. If they've got plenty to eat, they will keep themselves warm anyway. I don't over rug but I do add a no fill rug on the days where it is heavy rain.

    So would you have dismounted?

I'd say, the same as some others, probably wouldn't of been able to react quick enough to get off so would of clung on. Not sure unless you are in that situation I guess.

How often should I wash saddle pads and how?

I wash mine when they get a bit grubby. I never leave mine attached to my saddle and always leave them to air after each use.

What state are your fields in?

Ours are great. It doesn't really get muddy in my field but other fields on the yard can get a bit boggy.

    Cushings

The vet does not think the laminitis was cushings related, it was a matter of precaution to get him tested whilst he was there doing a vaccination. The only symptom he has is excessive urinating. On discussing with the vet again this afternoon, it has been decided that for the moment, we will...
