Wound dressing stuff - for me that is some packages of ready made prediluted wound flush sachets (sterile hibitane flush) melonin, soffban, gauze conform banage, vetwrap, elastikon and Duct tape - will cover most issues.
A decent multitool including wire nippers. Will double as scissors etc...
So, the short answer is I would stop marks and do all retrieves as memories for now. Get your control with him at heel sorted first. There's little point in spaniels doing marks from heel early unless you plan to pick up because you won't be sending them on a mark from heel in a working or trial...
Fatty has been working on getting fit again so lots of loop memories uphill of about 100 yards and longer memory back up and down a valley. Also biking her 2km a day
Mimi has moved on to her handling with dummies and just building up the same scenarios in different locations with different...
Evaporative a/c and swamp cooling are the same thing 🤔 unless I've misunderstood
Anyway,I happened to find a transcool on sale second hand so decided to give it a test run. It has the battery addition to run it for 12h so no draw on the van battery or need for plugging in when stationary.
Anyone have a transcool unit for keeping vehicles cool with dogs in? It's a portable evaporative A/C that can run on battery for 12-30h as well as on 12v and a/c power.
Van is vented, has excellent A/C and we utilise the aluminet shades already. The Transcool is quite appealing for ferry...
This is where training with a helper who can pick up the dummy if they run in helps a lot!
I don't throw a reward for a stop because I feel it also feeds into popping (maybe if I stop she will throw me a mark which is higher reward/more adrenalin than blind or memory). I'm odd though and do...
Then I would defintely wait him out if he pops during another exercise but mostly I'd try prevent it happening and becoming a problem as he's so clever ;)
My little FT bitch was one who would come back in if she felt she got it wrong. Figured out it was because after 3 or 4 casts I'd call her...
No worries, I train mostly with a lot of FT Lab people so have all sorts of exercises up my sleeve! Spaniels win on their hunting and lose on their retrieves so I try to make sure that mine are excellent retrievers as far as possible
Sometimes I'll back chain like this if I genuinely think they don't understand the question, however you can get into them starting to come back to heel if they "get it wrong" or think they've failed. Seen it in labs more than once!!
