When running your hand flat along the back (I think it's on the longissimus dorsi) with some pressure, going from behind wither toward tail, the muscle will bulge out in front of your hand if the horse is sore, muscle will stay flat if not.
How is his back? if you run your hand along the back, pressing on the muscle, does he react? is there a bulge forming in front of your hand?
Nervous and sloppy poos could be ulcers and/or too much grass. If too much grass, he could be very uncomfy in his feet and have a sore back (that's what...
Also, I'd go with checkbook, pen and paper, pay straight away and try to get on paper that money is for livery fees and horses are yours, and leave with the horses if possible. They might change their mind if not paid straight away.
Go see the personn in charge, tell her you miss them and are ready to pay a reasonnable amount to get them back (offer cost of livery) and see how that goes.
Sneak in some Speedibeet (or any kind of unmolassed beet) to him. Make it sloppy so he can eat it easily. It is high calorie and high fiber so should help put the weight back. You can add oil to it (straight vegetable oil) but it will take some time for his gut to be able to properly digest the oil.
Riding, try to keep the brain working, ask him to lower his head, balance (half halt), stay on the bit, engage his back and if not enough, lateral work and exercise that make him concentrate on what you are asking, and not what's around him. Being firm but not rough.
It's what works for my...
Just put my mare in a Tranz angled Lozenge D ring and it makes a lot of difference (she is very sensitive in the mouth and always tended to be behind or above the bit in her straight bar Happy Mouth). It's a Sprenger, not NS, but went for it because it was a 14 mm instead of 16 mm for NS, upon...
The cheap way to go about ulcers is to treat the horse and see if is behavior improves. I would give it a go before I'd do anything else as ulcers are much more frequent than we think. Gastrogard is supposed to be the best, but you could also try out Protexin Pro-soothe pH or Protexin acid-ease...
OP, you just need a new saddle ;), try one of those:

or an Aussie saddle (or a western with bucking rolls).
The gingerbred hasn't managed to get me off since I've got a saddle with polleys. I even went for a hack without stirrups when...
From what I understand, if you start out with the same grass, haylage should have less sugar than hay. But the problem is that haylage is often made from very rich grass and the result is therefore generally richer than hay.
Agree, unless you really find the right personn (thinking UKNHCP forum if you ever need to advertise him for sale). There are too many people uneducated about navicular like this thread proves.
An interesting article abour navicular (not necessarily for you OP, for anyone interested in...
We have 2 PREs in my family. They have both been imported as 4 years old from the same dressage stud in Andalusia (where they are backed before being exported to France in our case).
My mother's gelding is 8 years old and has been bought last Summer from a lady who trained him for horse...
