    Camp... WWYD

You should go but maybe don't do the xc and ask for pole/X poles sj. I was at a camp last month and peoples abilities varied greatly. Some just did flatwork with no jumping. Also some people asked when they were there to swap and do more flatwork or more jumping based on how it was going and if...

Training advice - horse rushes and stops

Hey just looking for some advice on jumping. I have a 7yo IDx who was green when I got her 2 yrs ago. I'm guessing had hunted but not see much show jumps and was super green in the school. Everything was going well, flatwork improving, always keen to jump and took me to a fence although...

    Any reputable breeders in Holland?

I know a few people who have bought really nice horses from Rebecca Dudley. http://www.rdhorsesforsale.com/ I think she sources them.

Mare suddenly not moving forwards and resisting the leg

My 6yo was going well until a few months ago when she started getting worse. The consistent contact we were gettng the hang of started to go out of the window. Transitions were becoming worse, canter was getting speedy. Generally being a grumpy mare about being tacked up also. She is a little...

Paying someone to school - worth it?

My trainer used to ride my young horse 3 days a week for me for the first few months. Now I have a lesson once a fortnight and she rides the opposite weeks. Its great if you can sit and watch too as you'll learn a lot if your trainer is good. Mine always makes horses go amazingly and they go...

    Ideas for small business?

Saddle fitting. We are lacking in good saddle fitters in aberdeenshire. I'm on a big livery yard and people are always struggling to find a trusted one since our local fabulous one retired a year or so ago.

Why do liveries advertise as £ per week? Thoughts?

I pay £5 a month extra to keep my trailer at the yard but no cctv.

What would you do? Long post...

I'd consider PTS as it doesnt sound like any regime would suit him apart from lots of work and chances are his knee wont hold up to that. Its a hard choice to make but you have to weigh up the quality of life he has.

Why do liveries advertise as £ per week? Thoughts?

Advertise per week and bill monthly if that is what others in the area do. My livery yard bills the same way you do by x 12 divide by 52 so its the same monthly amount whether its 4 or 5 week month. Sounds like a nice place. You shouldnt have trouble getting clients if your rates are competitive.

    Benefits of going affiliated?

I organise affiliated and unaffiliated Dressage competitions. I would say it depends if you are currently being judged by BD listed judges or not. Non-listed judges can have a wild range of marks. I've had 64% and 85% in 2 tests at the same competition when I lived in Warks but that was from a...

    Magnetic or Back On Track

There is no scientific evidence which suggest magnets work. I read that wearing magnetic boots is as good as stable bandages as it is just the heat from wearing boots which is the benefit so I went with Back On Track wraps as the ceramic inside makes them better than normal wraps.

    Equilibrium Vitamunch Meadow heavenly hedgerow

My mare loves the Vitamunch blocks but she eats them very quickly and that is in one of the Equillibrium small nets that you can buy with them! I then bought Halleys blox which last longer but she ends up biting through the small holed net so a hole is big enough for it to drop on floor then she...

Buying privately or through a dealer

I have bought 4 horses before. First one from a well known dealer in scotland and horse was completely mis-sold to me, an experience I hate to remember but I did manage to get my money back although lost the cost of transport and vetting. After that I looked privately and found a lovely mare for...

wood pellets and a messy horse

I use Sorbeo wood pellets with my messy mare. 1 to 2 bags a week then a bit of normal shavings on top. She doesnt drag her bed around but she is very wet so the wood pellets are very absorbant. I dig the whole lot out once a week and skip out the other days.
