Personally I don't think it's fair to leave a fully clipped horse with no rug. However I have taken all your comments on board and have bought a 50g rug. Will see how it goes. I can always go up if I need to. thanks
Not got a 50g but worth thinking about buying I guess. I am old enough to remember when a NZ rug was just canvas with a thin wool lining & horses did ok then. I think we have been persuaded by the rug companies that thicker and thicker rugs are necessary. I saw a 450g rug advertised with loops...
I have a mare that does very well on next to nothing; she lives out all winter (her preference) and is fed on topspec's weightwatchers version of their balancer with a handful of light chaff.
As she lives in with a herd I have to go with the flow grazing & hay wise and I can't restrict this in...
I hope this isn't against forum rules but not sure where else to start.... Ok so I have a 4 yr old 16.3 hh gelding that I bred myself. He is proving to be a bit of a challenge and unfortunately I think he is just going to be too much for me, I am getting older and am not as confident as I once...
Has anyone had a treatment done on their horse, or themselves ..... successful or not ?
I am thinking of trying them but information is scarce, it's been used a lot more in the USA & I am struggling to find any negative reports, but it sounds a bit too good to be true? Will cost £320 for one...
Sounds like a nightmare, I am glad your horse is now on the mend. I wonder if anyone has has a specific fibrotic myopathy diagnosis which got better ? As it is very rare there is not that much information available, even online.
I have a 3 year old that I bred myself who appears to have this condition. The vet has been out, gave this diagnosis as his verdict, which I was expecting after doing some research online about horses with odd looking walks ! He is perfectly sound in all other paces. This seems to be a rare...
My horse also suffers with Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis (PLV) & thankfully I have found a solution that worked for her. She suffered badly for 3 years as it wasn't diagnosed the first 2 winters she had it, the vets just thought it was mud fever, but she got it mid september every year and when...
I would cut bucket out alltogether & just feed equibites which will provide all the vits /minerals she will need, without additional calories. You can feed them in a bucket if the others are getting a bucket feed & you don't want her to feel left out. You really need to start to get some...
Hi my horse also suffers with Pastern Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis (PLV) & thankfully I have found a solution that works. This wasn't diagnosed the first 2 winters she had it, as the vets just thought it was mud fever, but she got it mid september every year and when that happened the 3rd year...
That's such a shame. Personally I don't understand the logic of planners. Near us a chap has put up 5 huge buildings for commercial use & they have no problem with that, but a grooms flat or small cottage to be near to your mares during foaling....no chance. :(
I have a very similar mare - she is very very wet but does not churn her bed up. I have tried wood pellets & didn't get on with them. They got very wet and heavy very quickly IMO although they worked much better mixed with light shavings like bedmax or similar as they need some bulk &...
Used Chine for AI & would recommend, I don't think they offer routine foaling down though ? They certainly didn't offer me the option but maybe I am wrong there. They have a specialist breeding vet John Dickerson who deals with everything so it's nice to have one contact all the way though and...
Thanks for ur suggestions , very helpful ,got me thinking perhaps could use door mat (i.e. that u would use at home to wipe feet on) or if not I will try to find a spare bit of rubber matting will only need to cover a small area. Rug won't work as she would eat it , drag it into bed or onto the...
