Showing people- What would she show as? 15.1

She does look pretty. Her showing options will depend completely upon her height. Probably the best way to go forward is to get her an annual height certificate (she isn't old enough for a life certificate yet.). It is a bit of a faff - shoes off, travel to a suitable measuring pad, practice...

    Can horses eat cucumber?

Where is i_am_a_cucumber when you need her? Saw this today: https://www.facebook.com/HuffPostGoodNews/videos/927078930711625

South west people (the traveller guy with the horse around devon

Saw the wagon all packed up ready to move and John putting the harness onto the horse as I drove past this morning. But then this afternoon I saw that they had only moved 100 yards, just a little nearer the roundabout again. The roadworks are finished.

    Land Buyers

I did the same 5 years ago. The Yorkshire Building Society wouldn't lend on land nor would they add the value of the land to the value of the house (land is adjacent).

    Re-seeding & fertalising

I would leave it for this year. Grass is amazingly good at recovering by itself, as soon as the soil warms up. I wouldn't fence it off, as you don't want a patchwork of tall grass and bald bits. Instead, let it be grazed but not over-grazed or trampled incessantly: that might take a bit of...

    Arena Eventing Questions about safety

This isn't quite correct. The new Pony Club insurance exclusion regarding unpinned fences does not apply to indoor or outdoor arenas. It is common for arena eventing to use sandbags on fences and some venues such as Pontispool have proper permanent XC obstacles such as ditches and water within...

    Completely illogical but....help needed!

My section A hated coming in at night - only when the fields flooded - and certainly never tolerated a rug. All that hair kept her cosy and I have a great pic of her with an inch of snow on her quarters. She must be incredibly well insulated!

    Tips on dealing with ice

This is an urban myth which the Department for Transport and the Met Office are trying to dispel. Obviously, if you pour boiling water onto the pavement to clear ice then it freezes as black ice you may have a problem, but in general you are encouraged to clear snow...

Electric poultry netting - stupid questions

You will be OK using metal tent pegs to peg down the bottom strand of the poultry netting, as this isn't electrified. Don't let the pegs touch any of the other strands. Don't use metal poles to hold the netting up as they will cause it to earth - you need plastic poles for this. You need a good...

Stupid to think about trying a 100?

Something you might like to consider is whether she will make the distances in the combinations. She is fairly small to be tackling a 1m course - in fact you wouldn't be allowed to take her around anything above 80cm at BE.

lots and lots of silly questions

I would suggest that you go to a couple of shows near you, without the pony, and have a good look at what is going on. People at the ringside, particularly near the collecting ring, are often very happy to explain it: what they are doing, what the judge is looking for, etc. You might also...

    Quick question re: FEI qualifications

It looks like it is the previous year (BE rulebook page 90). But FEI qualifications are astonishingly complicated - might be worth a phone call to BE.

Sick to death of irresponsible dog owners

If it happens again and you have time, whip your phone out and take a photo of the dog and the owner. Nothing illegal in that, but it tends to make dog-owners behave a bit better. Same with cars that misbehave - a photo is fabulous! It just makes people think twice.

    Catching/headcollaring a nervous yearling

I completely agree with this. This filly sounds like she could give you a lifetime of problems. If you do take her, then she would do best in a small herd with some adult mares - can you give her this lifestyle? The mares will teach her some manners as quick as a flash, and if the filly can...

Opinions please on making a venue for sj competing/training

On the legalities side, you would need to consider insurance and planning permission. On the practical side, there is no point in having a lovely arena if you haven't got a reasonable warm-up and lorry park - do you have space for these? You would need to look at your local shows to see whether...
