    Managing fatties and skinny horses

Instead of a track all the way round could you just do three sides, and then they can all get to the barn? Or fatty in with the skinny horse with a grazing muzzle?

Feeding piriton to horses ... drowsiness ?

Starting my horse on 30 piriton a day for his allergies. Vet has said to trial it for 2 weeks to see if there's any improvement, but not to ride him as a side effect is drowsiness. Obviously I understand why the vet has said not to ride but I know my horse and if he shows no side effects then I...

    Treeless saddle for jumping in

I felt very perched in my heather moffet vogue, felt like I was a foot higher than my horse. Since then I've sold it and got the flexEE which I love...and feel like i'm sitting on a horse not above one. I have jumped in it but its the dressage model so not great for jumping in anyway! Got a...

    Is this saddlecloth...

I think at RC you would get away with it so long as you look smart. I never wear white saddlepad for dressage as it makes my horse look dirty in comparison, I stick to black. On a side note I love tweed and I think its really smart and I wish I could justify buying one for myself! :)

How long does a round bale of hay last you ?

Big round bale costs me £25 and lasts my cob on ad lib hay about 4 weeks.

Over reach boots which bladdy well stay on!!

I find the non velcro fastening ones work best. They have a rubber strip you poke through two holes, once I got used to them I found them very easy to take on and off. Stay on even in thick mud and when horses decide to hoon round the field. I just rinse the mud off them every night and they...

    Schockemohle Bridle Sizing

I've got a full and when I first got it the crank noseband was too small and i thought I was going to need an extra full but the leather has softened and now it fits fine. The cheekpieces are strange sizing, I've got the cheekpieces from my cob size bridle on it as the full cheekpieces were way...

What do you define as a big spook?

My coloureds mild spook would be looking at something, bending his body away from it and tensing up. His worse spooks are doing a mini rear and spinning round the way we've come - usually at hares in the field hehe. His big spooks are when he jumps sideways drops his shoulder and spins...

How many horses do you actually know with ulcers?

So ulcers is a pretty common suggestion if you look at any questions about unwanted horsey behaviour...but i was just wondering how many of those horses actually do have ulcers. Is it as common as the internet would have you believe? The last statistics I saw were about 90% of racehorses and 60%...

    Are your horses still out?

We usually get until early nov as well, which is looking likely at the moment as fields are still pretty dry :) a couple of liveries are in overnight already but I'll leave my gelding out until the last day as he's allergic to dust. Getting clipped tomorrow so will be rugged from tomorrow too.

what's your Christmas dream gifts this year?

I would like a farm that I can fill with horses...but a bit more realistically I'd love one of those rug racks that goes on the wall so my rugs can dry neatly. I also need a pair of wellies that last longer than six months and keep my feet warm.

Not sure how to handle this, can't control mare

I suppose no one will know without seeing her and knowing what she was like before you got her. Did she act like this when you went to view her? To me it sounds like settling in still. If you think about it from her point of view, she's just left a home she knows to come to you and she's settled...
