    Shutting down in competition

I have the same issue with my one when it comes to showjumping, some days we fly round and some days not at all. He warms up like a dream but then as soon as we walk into the main arena he just completely switches off, won't go forward, will nap, not concentrate on the fences. It's so...

    Does this Body protector fit

I don't know much about fitting but i just had a racesafe fitted to me and I tried on lots of different types of lengths and sizes to show and get a feel of what did and didn't fit. I would say that doesn't fit your chest as the bottom of your rib cage looks very exposed.

Do you bank your stable beds or not?

Same I do banks in my stable, they are there so when I need more bedding after taking wet out its right there rather then having to always go get a bale. Plus my horse loves to rest his head on them.

Yet another Yard A or Yard B Question!

If you had to choose from the two I would choose option B. I am on a lovely yard that does alternate days for winter turnout which I do not think is horrendous. It gives their legs a break from the wet and mud and then they always get ridden on their in days. If it means you and your horse will...

    Feed

Have a look at Pure Feeds. I have started my boy on one of their bags called working and so far I am impressed and brings the cost of feed down as everything you need is in the bag for a balanced diet

    Not eating/drinking much!!!

You could try some hay from another bale but not because yours will be dodgy. Mine sometimes get bored of the same bale of hay and they could just be filling themselves up with so much grass that they don't want to eat any more fibre. Plus if they are not eating the hay that is probably why they...

    Best Grip Stirrups

Thank you! I like the sound on the Flex on ones. The tech ones also sound good too will definitely look at both of those.

    Best Grip Stirrups

I am heading up to Olympia this year and will be on the look out for new stirrups. I was wondering what stirrups people have had good experiences with and would recommend? The only stirrups I am not interested in are FreeJumps just I do not personally like them.

How often do you fall off?

I very rarely fall off at home or training. I tend to fall off at competitions as it all depends on how my boy is feeling. I had a streak of not falling off for 3 years until the a couple of weekends ago when I fell of 5 times at a competition! Thankfully the venue is very nice and let me keep...

    Conflicting ideas

You want to keep contact in both hands steady and vibrate the inside rein and press with your inside leg when you want the horse to bend to the inside. I would not be holding the horse and forcing it to drop it's head! You want the horse to relax into the contact and to work into the contact by...

Why bother with an equine college course ?

I went and did an Equine Course at college and learnt so much. I only had riding experience from being at a riding school and obviously learning to groom, tack up etc. So going to do an equine course really helped my knowledge! My riding improved hugely, it was very hands on learnt to care for...

    Horse calmer

Agree with what bp said, a calmer will not work. My two got so attached to each other once they moved to a new yard and the only thing that helped was slowly lengthening the time apart from each other and now they do not mind at all leaving each other. It help hacking both out at the same time...
